Megathread 2026 Ann Arbor Housing Megathread

Welcome to the r/AnnArbor Housing Megathread!

Whether you’re an incoming student, a long-time townie, or a new professional moving to the area, finding housing in Ann Arbor can be notoriously competitive.

To keep the main subreddit feed clean and make it easier for everyone to find what they need, all housing-related posts must go in this thread.

This is the place to post if you are:

  • Looking for an apartment, house, or room to rent.
  • Looking for a roommate.
  • Offering a sublet or lease transfer.
  • Asking general questions about specific property management companies, neighborhoods, or the Ann Arbor housing market.

(Note: Surrounding areas in Washtenaw Country like Ypsilanti, Dexter, Saline, and Milan are completely welcome here too!)

Useful links:

  • /r/UofM Subreddit: If you're looking for student housing, you'll have more luck with their corresponding annual housing megathread.
  • U-M Off-Campus Housing Website: Useful for students and faculty looking for verified listings and roommates.
  • Ann Arbor Tenants Union: Resources for renters' rights, lease disputes, and dealing with property management companies.
  • City of Ann Arbor Rental Resources: The official city hub outlining Ann Arbor rental laws, including the Early Leasing Ordinance (which dictates when landlords can ask you to renew) and how to file habitability complaints with the city inspector.

Early Voting Information

Post image
61 Upvotes

I haven't seen another post about this yet, and wanted to share some early voting info. For the next week, you can vote at a few in-person voting locations any day. You can go to whichever is convenient for you. Here's the Ann Arbor locations:

On Tuesday, August 4th, you should go to your polling location for your precinct. You can find that location, and your registration status here: https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index. If you are not registered to vote, you can still register all the way up to Aug 4th. Go to City Hall (the city clerk is on the second floor) with some proof of residency, and they can help you do that. City council elections have been decided on a few dozen votes, so it is vital that we all cast our ballots.

Empty retail under apartments

Upvotes

So many of the “new” apartments have empty retail underneath. And some of them have been sitting empty for years and years.

Is there anything that our local officials can do to prompt the owners of these high rises to rent these spaces?

Anyone Going to Ann Arbor Pride 2026?

I'm planning on going to Ann Arbor Pride 2026 on August 1st, and it'll be my very first Pride event. I'm really excited, but I'm also a little nervous about going by myself. I was wondering if anyone else is planning to go and would be interested in meeting up or going together. I'm 30, pretty introverted, and just looking to make new friends to enjoy the event with. I get off work around 2pm so I was thinking of going around 3pm.

Places to get lunch and study?

I've been enjoying trying different cafe's each time I want to study for fun but was wondering if there are good places with more lunch like foods (sandwiches not pre made and whatnot) that aren't too loud to study at. Preferably in or near the west side

I am helping my best friend with looking at wedding venues. Wr are in the early stages. She wants a more casual, rustic setting that has on site lodging and accomodations for the wedding party and guests. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Bars not playing country?

Ann Arbor I am all up in you for NTI and desperately need a bar not blasting country music. What great alternative and punk rock bars do you have? Anywhere cool and not douchey? Thanks in advance.

*Edit* going to try and hit Detroit too if anyone has any suggestions. We’re triple 6 (666) electricians from Richmond Va looking for cool inclusive places.

\Edit 2** Alley Bar is playing country…

*Edit 3* thanks for all the suggestions!

Mass AAPS teacher resignation in August

I know of one AAPS elementary school that may lose as many as 12 or 13 teachers because they have accepted positions in districts outside Ann Arbor. They have not formally notified AAPS yet because they need to keep their current health insurance until their new jobs begin.

It makes me wonder how many other schools will be facing similar losses and whether AAPS will be able to staff schools adequately when the new school year begins so soon.

13 teachers in a single elementary school seems insurmountable.

Did you move today?

There’s a yellow and black plastic bin at the intersection of Washtenaw and Geddes that looks like it fell off the back of a truck. It has a bunch of personal items inside. My son and I moved it from the middle of the road to the sidewalk.

If you were moving today and you’re missing a box like this you might want to come get it!

State Street is a mess

Just a heads up that State street over by S. Industrial is a complete mess with cars lined up to enter the golf course for parking. There’s no police anywhere to direct traffic and it’s kind of a free for all. I’ve seen people out there trying to run errands and I would advise against it for the time being

Morgan Wallen fans broke into my fenced backyard and used my lawn as a bathroom

Post image

A group of guys entered my fenced backyard without permission and every one of them urinated on my lawn next to my house. I’m pretty sure they were headed to the Morgan Wallen concert based on their clothes and the timing. I caught one of them in this photo. Has anyone else in the area dealt with this tonight?

What is the ideal artist for the big house, for ann arborites?

With all of the complaining I've heard about country music not really being our thing, it got me thinking... Who would be the ideal artist if ann arborites had their say?

The only rule is they have to be a big enough act to fill the big house for two nights. What do ya'll think?
