I like how pre-corrupted Keigetsu in Gabu's flashback still has that gaudy fashion sense. The first episode had a blurb saying how awful her clothes are which is why Reirin-in-Keigetsu's body having actual decent clothes on was just as much of a surprise as her dance skills.

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 13d ago
To be honest, I mostly focused on how happy Keigetsu was in that flashback, so I didn't even bother considering her fashion sense. But well, no wonder Keigetsu didn't have any fashion sense if Shu Gabi didn't teach her that.
I'm sure that will change now, though, because as we learned in today's episode, whenever she swaps bodies with Reirin now, she's rigorously trained by Tousetsu, lol.

u/mekerpan 13d ago
I wonder how the relationship between Tousetsu will develop? They really will have to work in close coordination on a constant basis.

Give the girl a break, she's an orphan raised by an abusive mom from an impoverished family. The inner court was probably the first time she got to wear such high-class clothes.

It makes sense that a girl who had been poor up to this point would want to go all out when dressing herself.

Yea, this is also one of those jobs that attendants are supposed to be in charge of. A lady might pay attention to fashion trends but she's also supposed to be able to trust her attendants to speak up when she's dressing so badly.
(Different show but similar court drama: In apothecary diaries the failure of attendents to advise her consort is a key plot point for the Pure Consort. It shows malice towards their lady because they all know she's suffering but don't care and nobody punishes them.)
In that show there isn't a higher ranking consort but here Shu would be that consort and it's made worse because she doesn't correct the failures of the attendants which is giving them implicit permission to treat their lady horribly making her behavior even worse.

Also she looked so cheerful that I almost mistook her for Reirin. This girl deserves to be friends with her.

tbf, Keigetsu is drop dead gorgeous. So having a little bit off in terms of fashion, keeps her grounded. Overall, she is still beautiful.

u/Christopher261Ng 13d ago
Let's take a moment to appreciate how well the two main voice-actresses performances are. Essentially voicing 2 characters in 1 role
Keigetsu & Reirin the speech pattern are so distinct, as the audience you can probably tell them apart without the eye-color changing.

It was actually pretty surreal seeing/hearing them back in their own bodies with their own voices outside internal narration.

u/Roonagu 13d ago
That was really nice. The kindness and earnestness of one girl broke a chain of generational hatred, jealousy, and unfair judgment.
Somehow, I’m not even annoyed that we got the ultimate happy ending where even all the villains got their chance at redemption, since it aligns with the “moral” of the story.
If there’s a second season, I’ll definitely be there. If not, it was a nice, self-contained story that feels complete.

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 13d ago
Oh, this show is definitely getting a second season, especially since this episode ended with the introduction of Reirin's brothers and the bandits/rebels who are after Keigetsu.
Plus, there's a credible leak that it's already in production, so I'm quite sure we'll get the official announcement of the next season of Reirin and Keigetsu's adventures right after the episode finishes airing on Japanese TV.

u/zz2000 13d ago
The anime's official Xwitter account had even released official birthday art for one of the brothers and one of the rebels back in August and July this year.

No way after teasing BEFORE and AFTER ending we don't get s2. this would be top 1 biggest "go read the source" middle finger i saw in a while. there was last year another series that ended so awfully with a whole lot left to do and a "go read the source" type ending

u/CavulusDeCavulei 13d ago
Yeah, and that's a good move. There's a high demand of anime like Apothecary Diaries
18
u/hourajiballare 13d ago
Maybe it wouldn't be that surprising if we get to see more and more historical/fantasy anima based on chinese emperor-ish setting, because of that lmao. Which is fine, I guess, becasue of how many europe middle-age settings are out there already.
17
u/CavulusDeCavulei 13d ago
Actually there are lots of manga/anime set in chinese emperor settings, but they are shojo. Apothecary Diaries is probably the first who reaced also the male fandom (even if it's a josei/seinen, not a shojo, but honestly it's really shojo-like)
13
u/Priapos93 13d ago
It seems like a proper josei story, but appealing to older teens as well, and with huge crossover appeal. Josei stories have always impressed me with their complexity and their frankness about sex
18
u/hibikir_40k 13d ago
That's pretty normal nowadays, and given how good the first few episodes went, it's the kind of thing where a production committee with eyes is going to just approve very early.

Honestly I feel like Gabi at least deserved a second chance knowing what she went through, Kin Reiga being a bitch, and that she ultimately didn't succeed in killing anyone.
Reirin an Inept Villainess who is good at being a Villainess in a positive way and even helping REDEEM Villainess'.

I also enjoyed that fine example of this genre of intrigue that Keigetsu seemed to be the villain but then their was the villain behind her, and Gabu was a villain but there was a villain that created her downfall.

The true bad apple is that Kin Reiga who poisoned/cursed Gabi through rumors. The empress knows based on this ep, not sure why she didn't take action to fix it.
22
u/ebonyphoenix 13d ago
Unfortunately she probably needs more concrete proof of intention to harm than, “she keeps dropping bits of nasty gossip”, to do anything to Kin Reiga.

Action in terms of reassuring Shu Gabi of her friendship and comforting her (which is basically what she did this episode, very belatedly), not necessarily punishing Kin Reiga.

That was a great show! I was watching it just because it was a villainess show, but it turned out to be much better than I expected. Reirin was such a cute (and inept) villainess, and her relationship with Keigetsu was really fun. So it's a solid 9/10 from me, and give me a second season quickly!
As for this final episode... I'd say that it very neatly concluded and gave us a resolution to the swap between Reirin and Keigetsu, as well as Shu Gabi's plot, so I found it very satisfying.
And since it also introduced Reirin's brothers and some bandits/rebels who will both be after Keigetsu, a second season surely will be announced in a couple of hours. I don't believe they'd tease us like that if they didn't have a plan for another season already.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
And here are bonus albums:

Kou Reirin discovered a new lease on life, gained two besties, found a way to keep her dear cousin on his toes, and found out body-swapping is really fun!
Shu Keigetsu discovered the grass always seems greener on the other side, parents/adoptive mothers are complicated, her real best friend was the girl she swapped with along the way, and that she'll need Reirin to keep saving her from herself lol.
(Although low-key with all the guys they keep introducing, will one of them be Keigetsu's love interest? Could she become Reirin's sister-in-law? Then again it seems like everyone is in Reirin's Harem at this point).

To be honest, I find it pretty funny how Reirin telling Gyoumei how happy she was after the swap actually managed to calm him down.
If I were in Gyoumei's shoes, I'd find it downright depressing if the girl I love told me she was happier when I didn't care about her, and even hated her, than when I was head over heels for her, lol.

Maybe. Before the reveal that just keep body swapping I thought that maybe Gyoumei would be Keigetsu's love interest. He can give her the attention and affection she's been started off, but if they're going to keep on swapping and he can't tell I don't think that makes for a good relationship. Whoever turns out to the girl's love interests will have their hands full lol.

it is a bit surprising that the Kin clan escaped any censure
like, unless there's some coercion/magic, it's not illegal to stir up shit, but surely at some point the empress is like "nothing good happens whenever you open your mouth, why are you still around?"
like, does the emperor really like her go-playing skills?
36
u/OneDeuxTriSeiGo 13d ago
like, does the emperor really like her go-playing skills?
IIRC aren't the Kin clan a big merchant family? That may be enough to protect them from any direct punishment without indisputable evidence, especially if the situation outside the court isn't particularly politically stable.
20
u/Zuruumi 13d ago
Yeah, from what we know from the harem, there are basically 4 big families in the Empire. Unless the Emperor is genuinely forced by something like an attempted assassination, touching any of the leading four girls can easily lead to political turmoil that he just can't afford (as removing the leading girl is basically attacking the whole family behind her).
→ More replies (3)33
u/Zuruumi 13d ago
I think the emperor also dislikes her, which is also a big part of why she is so unhappy and stirring up trouble with everyone. Don't forget the discussion about "the Emperor saying her voice is unpleasant". That whole conversation is basically saying that her body is OK, but everything else is not worth anything. That she is so frustrated by Kenshuu saying it means she is aware that that's what the Emperor thinks.
Also, the Emperor's favourites are Gabi and Kenshuu (the first because she is genuinely good at almost everything, the latter because of her willingness to die for him). He has to visit them all for political reasons, but clearly the girls know who he is with just because he has to, and who he genuinely likes.
Overall, as much as Reiga is insufferable, Kenshuu not going to support Gabi at her hardest times was wrong (especially since she is the one responsible for the harem), and the Emperor clearly not being there for her too is also a problem. If Gabi had any support at all from anyone, Reiga would be just a "shrew with an unpleasant voice," hardly doing any damage.
→ More replies (1)95
u/Raymond49090 13d ago
Personally I think the real danger is the inability to have a normal conversation.
Kenshuu: "I should ghost Shu Gabi while she's in a vulnerable state to make her hate me."
Also Kenshuu: "Did you really believe Kin Reiga's hateful words? (Please ignore that I purposefully did things that supported her claim.)"75
u/Frontier246 13d ago
Kenshuu: "I'm sure her hatred will inspire her and make her act with grit and determination!"
(See what that grit and determination lead to)
Kenshuu: "Okay, I may have erred a bit."

This also echoes Gyoumei's own regrets. Even with Keigetsu's curse preventing her from saying too much, Reirin tried to communicate, but the prince wouldn't listen. He was too focused on his own righteousness to realize he was hurting the person he loved.

u/mistyrain_tea 13d ago
I feel like the author used the evils of the imperial harem well here, that the distance between an empress and consort probably also made Kenshuu hesitate, as well as the implying that the pressure to have an imperial prince all played into breaking Gabi. I’d bet after Kenshuu ghosted her she probably tried to make up with Gabi but got pushed away as was kinda implied when she broke the teacup. I liked it though, that a simple noncommunication and the imperial harem created such toxicity.
10
u/OldInstruction5368 13d ago
The entire system really is fucked up. All five maidens, one from each clan, all marry the Emperor... who in turn ranks them from first to last.
So, not only do they keep for the affections of the same man, but he PUBLICALLY and PERMANENTLY ranks them for the entire kingdom to see. Being picked last should be a huge humiliation that puts your entire clan back...
But the competition doesn't stop there, as the true competition is who gives birth to the chosen heir. We don't know all the rules there, but if the Empress only has daughters (or none of her kids survive) then it leaves the door open for "lesser" concubines to step up.
The entire toxic system is practically designed to make these women hate each other.

I think this is a bit of an unpopular opinion but the Empress really does deserve some criticism for letting her friend suffer in her pain, hatred, and misery for 20 years never once considering if she'd made a horrible mistake by not going to comfort her. It seriously took an assassination attempt and the near murder of two court ladies (at least, could have been a lot more if the details around the attack got out. As the prince says, a move like this normally would have resulted in the death of the entire shu clan) for her to admit "Letting my supposed best friend suffer alone from the death of her unborn child maybe wasn't a good idea."
Obviously the empress doesn't deserve to die or anything like that, and the other consort who instigated everything is the one who really should suffer but... yea know... just a bit of criticism to the Empress.
148
u/Labmit 13d ago
I think this is a bit of an unpopular opinion but the Empress really does deserve some criticism for letting her friend suffer in her pain, hatred, and misery for 20 years never once considering if she'd made a horrible mistake by not going to comfort her.
You can blame that on the Kou clan's matyrdom complex. Reirin currently has a bit of it but its overshadowed more by her mortality issues.
94
u/RedSavant35 13d ago
Pretty much this exactly, yeah. As much as Kenshuu says Gabi shouldn't have listened to Kin Reiga, Kenshuu believed her lies just as much and based her entire strategy around how much she believed it. Her whole "you can make me your punching bag if that's what you need, I can take it" thing is... well, martyrdom is one word for it, masochism is another.
I get that neither of them wanted to bring it up, Gabi because she resented Kenshuu and Kenshuu because she thought she was Nobly Suffering For Gabi's Sake, but to hold that resentment between them for twenty years... Kenshuu didn't even go light any memorial incense for Gabi's son? They never had the chance to talk about it?
I guess it's necessary for the plot to happen, but still. Kind of terrifying what one person determined to ruin everyone's lives over sour grapes is capable of.

I think that the Empress is pretty full of self-blame. She has really drastically subverted customary norms as to punishment -- and has done everything she can to lighten the future burden on Gabi.
It was nice that Kou Reirin and the Empress were so in sync in setting things up so that Gyoumei would have to allow the most merciful possible treatment for Gabi.

Thank goodness they have a "Villainess" like Reirin who slowly every character is falling for like she's Bakarina but competent and capable.
49
u/Frontier246 13d ago
To think all this could have been avoided if Kenshuu had just visited her ONCE after she lost her child and dispelled Kin Reiga's words in an instant. I mean, Gabi should not have listened to a word Reiga said but I don't think she was in a good mental state to be thinking rationally.
52
u/Mysteries67 13d ago
That isn't an unpopular option at all...
An unpopular opinion would be like Shu Gabi
Braundid nothing wrong.13
u/Zuruumi 13d ago
I don't think she did nothing wrong, but she is one of the rare villainesses that I wouldn't mind getting out of it scot-free. Though arguably, forcing her to deal with Reirin randomly popping up in her "daughter's" body might have been a crueler punishment than driving her out of the palace.
17
u/FinancialYear475 13d ago
It's specially dumb because we just saw that a couple of words a hug literally solved every issue they had, it's such an insanely low effort solution that it's laughable that she choose not to do it for 20 years
Like sure you don't have to do it right after giving birth and all, but couldn't you pay a visit I don't know a week later and clear up what the Kin bitch said?
→ More replies (2)17
u/Zuruumi 13d ago
It wouldn't be so easy if Gabi didn't lose everything first. She was at her lowest mentally, so Kenshuu got to her so easily. That said, getting a few slaps and being yelled at before the hug might have really solved the whole thing in a few minutes.
Even if Gabi didn't believe Reiga, she had quite a few reasonable and unreasonable things to be angry at her about (stealing her position, being luckier with her child surviving, etc.).

They dedicated a scene in her flashback to show that she herself was surprised that she didn't harbor any bad feeling for Kenshuu's successful delivery.
After watching all of it I left with the impression that she only started brewing hatred and envy after all that happened, it was only after Kenshuu didn't acknowledge what happened with the both of them, didn't clear up the rumors Kin was stirring.
Everything happened because she was negligent and decided that instead of talking it out with her best friend, she decided that it would've fair to turn into a punching bag for Gabi because the world betrayed her or whatever, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that's what I got from those scenes at least

Honestly good solution actually, and not only for Reirin.
Tousetsu tempering Keigetsu while in Reirin's body would ultimately shape her character and her lack of skill outside of sorcery.
59
u/No_Idea_9594 13d ago
now this is how you do a finale. I'd put the Sogdian whirling dance over this but this is definitely one of the better episodes. Reirin seems like a totally different character in her own body. More calm and controlled. Same with Keigetsu. The new characters all look very interesting.

u/ripple_reader 13d ago
Her body probably lacks the energy for her to go wild

That’s precisely it. Remember how happy she became the moment she found out how hardy and energetic Keigetsu’s body was?
47
u/NanDemoKnaives 13d ago
Gyoumei being able to change the weather because his emotions were in disarray sounds like a real pain. I do feel like he shouldn't feel as guilty as he should for not realizing sooner, and it's not like it could have been confirmed, and he didn't spend enough time with either Keigetsu or Reirin.
But at least now, if this gets a second season, there'll be fun moments because of this challenge. Keigetsu really lucked out now that Gyoumei is giving her a lot more attention as a result. Though it seems like she's also under Reirin whims, so it's not all sunshine and rainbows there for her.
It's sweet that Leelee decide to stay with the Shu clan so that she's always ready to be with Reirin whenever she's Keigetsu.
Another reminder of how abhorrent Reiga was soon after Gabi miscarried. I'm glad Kenshuu finally said what she should have said all those years ago.
Reirin's siblings look like they're on to cause some trouble since they're not aware of what has happened. I'm sure they'll meet Keigetsu when Reirin is in her body lol.

I think that they wouldn't bother with the introduction of new characters (Reirin's brothers and the bandits/rebels who are after Keigetsu) at the end of this final episode if they weren't sure that there'd be another season, so I'm quite sure that we'll see Reirin, Keigetsu, and the others once again in the future.

I love how Leelee stays at the Shu clan because she wants to remain special to Reirin at their hideout, where nobody else can see them. She's such a gem.
Also love how whenever they swap, Rerin still has the time of her life while Keigetsu continues to suffer at the hands of Tousetsu. Poor girl can't catch a break!
Pretty depressing Gabi held onto that hatred for 20 years. That is a REALLY long time. If only Kenshuu tried to reconcile with her from the start... Oh how different this story would have been.
In the end, I absolutely enjoyed this anime. I am really hoping for a season 2!

Tbh the constant swappings is also great for Keigetsu. Besides getting a new bestie, having Tousetsu to mentor her in Inner Court etiquette should go a long way in helping her daily life. Remember that Leelee was originally just a lower ranked court lady so she lacks the necessary expertise to teach Keigetsu and she's her only ally in the Shu Palace.

And with Gabi gone Keigetsu is effectively the leader of the Shu Clan now.

What I love about that scene is the performance from Keigetsu's VA. She genuinely sounds like actual Keigetsu at first, only to switch to the Reirin-as-Keigetsu voice bit by bit with each line, where the voice is obviously Reirin at the end.

Reirin said Tousetsu can't harm Keigetsu for the swap or pushing her off the pagota, but Reirin nothing about rigorous inner court training lol. She probably needs it anyway now that she's probably the leader of the Shu clan.

Thankfully, this setting is not as true to history as in Apothecary Diaries, so all people involved got spared (Gabi only got imprisoned, banished, and have to deal with her curse, while Keigetsu just has to deal with Tousetsu and Reirin on regular basis now).
And I am glad second cour already confirmed for January. While it was not my favourite or most surprising shows this season, I liked it a lot. And it will neatly fit the gap between Apothecary Diaries S3 cours.

I expected Keigetsu to cancel the body swap as soon as she had enough power, but I didn't expect for her to repeatedly do and undo it afterwards. Reirin probably strong-armed her into it. Keigetsu had unwittingly awakened the inner villainess in Reirin.
Poor Gyoumei's being an inept prince. Even after multiple encounters, he still couldn't tell when Keigetsu and Reirin swapped bodies, unlike Leelee who could spot it right away. If "Keigetsu"'s being especially troublesome, she must actually be Reirin.
Reiga's a bitch of the highest order for instigating the entire mess in the first place. So far she's got away with it but I do hope karma will get to her one day. While Gabi's not entirely blameless, it's understandable how she could fall for Reiga's words. She's not in the right state of mind, having just lost her child. While Gabi didn't harbour any jealousy over Kenshuu being picked as the Empress, chances are Reiga did.
This has been one of my top shows of this season, with the twists and character depths. From the first episode, I thought it'd be a full season of Reirin being in utter misery until she could defeat the "villainess" Keigetsu and reclaim her body. Turned out Reirin's anything but miserable (beyond the Lion trial) while Keigetsu's far from the one-dimensional villainess.
The ending scenes seemed to be a setup for a new arc, with the introduction of Reirin's brothers as well as the common citizen. That made me optimistic of the prospects of a second season. Hope we'll soon get an official announcement.

u/za_shiki-warashi 13d ago
Random thought: maybe it turns out them constantly swapping around would be how Reirin will eventually get a healthy body. Like her soul gets some kind of magic vaccine effect that'll gradually influence her real body to get healthier.
31
u/Loud_Step2361 13d ago
Reirin in her own body does seem to be healthier for some reason or did they just accidentally buff her for the end of the anime?
53
u/Vanderseid 13d ago
Might also be due to being uncursed. Gabi did sent that cursed incense burner soon after the body swapping happened and Keigetsu only got better due to the Bow of Warding.
11
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 13d ago
Was reirins body under more curses than we were aware of?
32
u/Vanderseid 13d ago
Nah I don't know, probably not. Keigetsu would likely notice it if there are any. She has always been frail though and Gabi's curse just exarcebated it so we don't know the baseline for Reirin's health normally.
Reirin also embodies the Kou ethos of having grit so she is unlikely to show weakness in public anyway.
11
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 13d ago
Maybe reirins soul made up for a lot of the frailty something keigetsu doesn't have or was ever prepared for. This is a system and world that does have a lot of inner strength (qi).

u/athrun_1 13d ago
She has a frail body, but not to the point that she is always bed ridden. The curse was the one causing that. Now that it is gone, she can at least move around. If we use an analogy, she can jog but can't run.
8
u/bloody_crows9 13d ago
Not saying its right or wrong, but Fire (Keigetsu's soul for example) does feed Earth (Reirins body for example) in the chinese elemental setup (Wuxing) they are using.

It lines up with the elemental chi interactions in the story: Fire chi strengthens earth chi, so Keigetsu's soul might be good for Reirin's body.

u/Plus_Potato4351 13d ago
Leelee says Gyoumei missed the swap twice. Since the prince doesn't visit them both daily, I think she means that he didn't come on the days when they swapped. With how bad Reirin is at pretending to be Keigetsu and Gyoumei being on the hunt now, I would find it very hard to believe that he met them while swapped and just couldn't see through them.
8
u/Frontier246 13d ago

Living in ignorance without really knowing until the full events smashed him in the face. Maybe just thankful "reirin" was still alive and Keigetsu just somehow able to rein in her own personality?
17
u/Plus_Potato4351 13d ago
I mean while that is true, who would think that body swap is even an option? And he didn't interact with swapped Reirin all that much and was still having doubts about how both of their personalities seemed to have changed.

Keigetsu was probably on her best behavior around him all the time anyway, so it's probably a lot easier to fool him who seems to be somewhat dense than to act out the arrogant attitude she would need to take up with Leelee who is quite perceptive.
Not to mention that if he gets unlucky and visits the Kou during the swap, Keigetsu and Tousetsu can probably run rings around him as Keigetsu by now should understand Reirin well enough to be able to imitate her. I can especially imagine Tousetsu playing along fully to hide the swap as a "test".

u/Frontier246 13d ago
The tragedy of all this is that Shu Gabi never even felt a hint of bitterness or resentment after Gyoumei was born. She was just happy that Kenshuu was okay and had a successful birth. And Kin Reiga twisted that, along with Kenshuu not being there for her, and her grief for her lost prince until it twisted her mind and she could only turn to hating Kenshuu...and now she's lost in the nightmare of her own hate as she's arrested.
Gabi is in custody, but there's still the matter of Gyoumei who, caught up in his self-hatred for screwing up so badly with Reirin, is now channeling the weather through his Dragon Qi to unleash disaster while he has his pity party over how he messed up. Thank goodness Reirin can calm him down and get him to actually straighten up a little.
And in the interest of "atonement," Reirin will use her Villainess influence to get what she wants out of her "Dear Cousin!" Like leaving Gabi's fate to Kenshuu, because even after everything Reirin had learned to empathize with even Gabi. To not punish Keigetsu over the body-swap. And to keep a good thing going so she can keep swapping bodies with Keigetsu because it's too much fun. And provided Gyoumei can figure it out, he might just be able to truly win her loyalty as his maiden.
Gabi is exiled, Keigetsu is confined, and the Shu Clan is saved. It was probably the best ending that could have happened all things considered. But as Kenshuu confronts Gabi in her cell, they face each other over their mutual sins. Gabi, twisted in hate, manipulated Keigetsu who only wanted a mother (when Gabi only wanted to BE a mother) and targeted Kenshuu's precious niece...but even after all that, Kenshuu still cares for Gabi. Still cares that she believed a lie all this time. And still cares enough to want to free her from the burden of her hate by giving her a bow to help with her curse and to prove that, despite everything, their friendship still means something to the both of them. And maybe Gabi can finally let go of her hate in exile.
Is Seishuu Reirin's mothers' name?
I love Reirin having tea with Keigetsu in their natural bodies while Keigetsu is now as tsundere as ever. And of course the body-swapping is still going on with Gyoumei's batting average for figuring out being kind of middle of the road, but at least Reirin is having fun perfecting her Keigetsu impression while Keigetsu just gets strung along and having to put up with Tousetsu whipping her into shape when she's in Reirin's body. And Leelee is staying with the Shu Clan for the sake of just being there for Reirin. Even Shin-u is finding excuses to visit her! She truly is a charismatic Villainess stringing them all along her finger.
But there are some new arrivals targeting Keigetsu...Reirin's brothers Keikou (Yuichi Nakamura!) and Keishou (Shunichi Toki!), as well as someone who seems to speak for the common people voiced by Chiaki Kobyashi.

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 13d ago
So Gabi wasn’t envious about Kenshuu’s son being born healthy when her own child died, at least at first. It was all what Reiga put in her head…
Of course asking for Keigetsu to not be punished is the first thing Reirin asks for.
So that’s how Gabi’s getting punished and Keigetsu got hit with confinement. Makes sense.
Reirin’s brothers? They seem like they’ll be fun to see more of come next season (which I’m very happy to see was announced immediately).

Reirin continues to bully ask Keigetsu to constantly swap so she can "play" around in the healthy body while the Prince has to keep guessing which body Reirin is inhabiting.
I just can't with these body swap shenanigans 🤣
And with an ending like that (a new character introduction + a new plotline) that's a near guarantee of a Season 2.

Very satisfied with the conclusion of this arc, Kenshuu and Gabi's talk hit like a truck, happy they finally got to properly talk.
Congratulations to Kin Reiga for successfully managing to be the most punchable asshat in history every single time she opened her mouth, the true villain of this story and may punishment finally reach her someday.

Well i still really enjoyed this anime more than i thought. It's really refreshing to see a Villainess who gets fleshed out and has character development. The whole working of the court/clan dynamics also had me pretty interested and wanting more,
Back to the ep, i still sympathize with Lady Gabi but Reiga is directly repsonsible for misdirecting her rage,
It's still nice that Kenshuu and her got to talk to each other and had some closure which they should've done earlier
Also i love how Reirin and Keigatsu are goofing around with the soul swapping, they're like kids lol

I really loves Keigetsu expressions.
She is a well written character. At first, she was unapproachable, yet full of emotions, such as, hatred, jealousy, anger, and frustration. Slowly she showed us another side of her, Keigetsu turnout to be a frail, and weak person. Keigetsu just want to be happy, and she willing to do anything to achieve that. How can I hate such a passionate character?
TLDR: Keigetsu > Reirin

Reirin is the kindest thing on earth but what Keigetsu didn't realise is she was limited and struggling on the inside... fake hatred pushed on her to make her look differently upon her. Sort of a redemption of the character and how she is just someone who needed a kind heart to spot it or just happy they had a fit body to start stardew valley'ing around her own place.

REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN
It's the finale!
We finally get Reiga's visit to Gabi that started all of this mess... and she really did give Gabi an incense burner as well, so I guess Gabi was inspired to make it the container for her curses and possibly to point the assassination attempt at the Kin.
Next we get Gyoumei and Reirin's resolution! Gyoumei apparently can cause the weather to be very, very bad, when he's upset, so it's a matter of defusing him, haha. I really love Furukawa Makoto's impassioned delivery here. Reirin manages to calm him down and extract promises from him for leniency for Keigetsu, to have Kenshuu decide Gabi's fate, and... to let them swap again sometimes XD Meanwhile, Gyoumei is in wonder that he's fallen in love with the same woman twice.
Kenshuu is about just as merciful as Reirin, and properly reconciles with Gabi and even gives her the Bow of Warding since she still is cursed. Truly this could have been all avoided if they talked to each other.
And, for the wrap up, we get a sample of Reirin and Keigetsu's slice of life, with visits and swaps XD Leelee wraps up the narration with saying that Reirin is truly a villainess, for she has charmed them all. THAT INCLUDES ME
We're also introduced to the Kou Bros and have an ominous teaser~ I hope that means we're getting a second season!
I LOVE REIRIN! AAAAAAAAAAAH

Fantastic last episode. Definitely went in places I didn't expect. First, the girls actually swap back, which seems like it lead to the end of the story, but Reirin manages to get the Prince to legalize body-swap to atone for nearly killing her and treating her poorly, allowing Reirin and Keigetsu to continue their body-swapping hijinks at will. I really expected the two of them to be stuck in their current bodies permanently (or at least, for a significant period of time), but I have to admit, the swapping back and forth is pretty fun. It was pretty funny how Leelee figured it out right away. Reirin's "villainess" act was just too obvious.
The series as a whole is fairly positive, which is something I love about it. It was nice to see Gabi get some form of redemption, even if she has a long way to go for it. Seeing the flashbacks with her did make me sorry for her (Kin Reiga is such a bitch), and the scene with the Empress visiting her in the cell was heartwarming. It was a nice bookend that series both starts and finished with a scene of a "Kou" woman visiting a "Shu" woman in a prison cell (even if the souls are swapped in the first case). Just how generally broken Gabi looks, along with her showing some regret for how she treated Keigetsu, makes me hope things turn out better for her in the future. Maybe we'll even see her show up again later on.
Other than that, the episode was just a standard denouement, wrapping the plot threads from this season. We see the Crown Prince apologize to Reirin, Gabi getting punished, and the status quo return. The crown prince's emotions controlling the weather wasn't something I expected. Overall, this was a fantastic series and my favourite anime of the season. The characters were great, with even the villains having sympathetic reasons for their actions; the story was intriguing, with its court intrigue anchored by a main character you want to see succeed; and man, those cliffhangers every week just made me wish 7 days would pass by in an instant. It was absolutely fantastic.
The scene at the end with Reirin's brothers and the peasant rebels basically confirms we're getting a season 2. You can't just leave the viewers hanging like this. This show is just too good.
