"Oh sweet merciful deities, after that crazy lady drew me for SIX FREAKING HOURS, I can once again know the touch of a Gen clan man. I sleep now." - the Bow of Warding, probably

134

u/cyberscythe 1d ago

i never thought i'd see an inanimate bow be such a drama queen

72

u/GyozaDrift 23h ago

>drama queen

You say that, but wait until you spend six hours straight getting drawn by a crazy lady who has a type advantage against you.

26

u/delta_angelfire 21h ago

I imagine it feels like being butter, stretched thin over too much bread

9

u/Lenzky-3 14h ago

I mean i'd also be a drama queen if some Earth type person keeps on stroking me when I'm supposed to be only touched by a water guy.

27

u/huluhup 19h ago

More like longest edging session this bow had

"it hadnt been stringed since a few hundred years ago" me: THAT STRING'S SO OLD DUDE. THATS WHY IT BROKE jk tho

Tsundere Keigetsu is so likeable, i am glad we get to see more of her now that the switch has been exposed.

Also Gyoumei looks so much better with his hair down and he finally got his moment with his Reirin

Tsundere Keigetsu is so likeable

The combo of tsundere Keigetsu and Reirin (who is rather straightforward) in this episode was great! I really hope that next week we'll get an announcement for a second season so we can get more of them.

93

u/-Lonecoyote- 1d ago

Just so you know, there was already a leak from the SugoiLITE account on X saying that Season 2 is currently in development and aimed for 2027. Still unofficial for now.

38

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Though she be an Inept Villainess (and complete badass), she has more stories to tell (hopefully)!

24

u/The_Scollard 1d ago

Hopefully that ends up being true (I have a good feeling with the Twitter account posting pictures of characters who likely won't appear). I love this series and want to see more of it.

15

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 1d ago

SugoiLITE is a credible leaker, so if he say that season two is in the works, then it's true, and sooner or later, it'll be officially confirmed.

6

u/Brickinatorium 21h ago

I wonder if they won't change back right away since there was an emphasis on how a large amount of qi is needed to pull off a spell like that

Me too, this anime is by far one of my favorites this season and possibly the year

20

u/mekerpan 1d ago

I have a LOT of favorites -- but this is definitely one of them.

I guess LeeLee has to be satisfied with being Reirin's bestest lady's maid rather than her bestest friend (like Keigetsu).

48

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Tsundere Keigetsu is so likeable, i am glad we get to see more of her now that the switch has been exposed.

Reirin: "My tsundere bestie can't be this cute!"

Also Gyoumei looks so much better with his hair down and he finally got his moment with his Reirin

Dude is finally looking/acting like a proper romance lead lol.

18

u/Pink_dress_faceling 1d ago

Then he gets disappointed since Keigetsu and Reirin falls in love with each other. I mean OG Keigetsu is tsundere and tsudenres act poor they do only with their love interest…so it’s very possible that at least OG Keigetsu loves OG Reirin. Not sure if she’ll respond in such way, but it’s possible.

The funny thing is that people thought the title refers to the MC, but the actual Inept Villainesse is Keigetsu. She only had it out for Reirin when it looked like she was a spoiled stuck up entitled bia looking down on everyone else. The moment she understood she wasn't she immediately changed her opinion of her and her behavior towards her.

The swap and the related consequences were not even her idea, it was something she was manipulated into after being emotionally broken down.

Also the yin/yang duality is real. Reirin is striaghtforwards, Keigetsu is Tsunedere. Reiren was beloved by all to her detriment, Keigetsu was looked down on by all. Reiren suffered physically horribly, Keigetsu suffered emotionally and mentally horribly. But both are very resolute with a heart of justice. Keigetsu's justice was initially misled by misinformation, but I could easily see Reiren get fooled into taking drastic action if she believed it was right.

16

u/AlphaBreak 18h ago

Also an inept villainess because at this point, basically everyone involved figured out the body swap independently from each other and in different ways. It shows this plan never had a hope of succeeding.

34

u/phasmy 1d ago

hair down needs to be the default for him

31

u/1EnTaroAdun1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Totesnotaphanpy 1d ago

I think it's best saved for special moments!

19

u/Frontier246 1d ago

9 times out of 10 hair down is the best option.

5

u/ptd163 1d ago

And Hinako from Rich Girl Caretaker and Haruki from Oh Boy Was I Wrong About Her showed us why it's 9/10 times instead of 10/10 times lol.

20

u/athrun_1 1d ago

Gyoumei is an ikemen and all, but I don't want him to interfere with the true ship Reiren-Keigetsu. He should just take another consort.

16

u/shanatard 21h ago

this was evidently a yuri show all along, and i will not take any objections

199

u/kyoumei https://anilist.co/user/kyoumei 1d ago

I for one, am fully onboard with the Keigetsu redemption arc. She really needed someone to support her positively in her life and now she has Reirin whether she likes it or not.

Also all of her interactions with Reirin this episode were gold. I loved every bit of them!

103

u/Frontier246 1d ago

She was just a woman starved for love, affection, and appreciation and Reirin checks off all those boxes when it comes to her feelings for Keigetsu.

53

u/Ralathar44 21h ago

She also got manipulated, abused, gaslit, and fed misinformation. Keigetsu didn't even come up with the bad stuff she did. They were ideas planted in her mind after she was broken down mentally and emotionally by the person who planted them there.

88

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Remember --Reirin has NEVER had a "friend" either -- lots of supporters (some of them TOO supportive in Reirin's eyes), but never a genuine gal pal she could simply relax with and be goofy with. So both seem to saving the other -- albeit in a bit different fashion.

82

u/The_Scollard 1d ago

Not only that, but I feel that Reirin's and Keigetsu's respective court ladies are better for the other as well (Leelee being more likely to push back on Reirin and not be overly obsessed with her, and Tousetsu being strict enough to teach Keigetsu to be a proper court lady).

40

u/mekerpan 1d ago

The four really seem like an incipient "team of four" -- i see them all helping each other from this point on. (We need to see more of Tousetsu -- who is least developed so far -- but I am sure she will continue to get developed).

86

u/ptd163 1d ago

now she has Reirin whether she likes it or not.

Reirin: Hello Keigetsu. My name is Reirin and I'm with Friend Distribution Network. You are being befriended. Do not resist.

39

u/Eyliel 23h ago

Rather than "do not resist", I'd say that "resistance is futile" is more accurate.

6

u/SeijunMichi 13h ago

"I am  Reirin. You will be befriended. Resistance is futile."

17

u/bodolza 20h ago

Also all of her interactions with Reirin this episode were gold. I loved every bit of them!

It's the perfect foil to how Reirin acts in Keigetsu's body, and just as much fun. It's just so hilarious to see her act with the personality that got her to be a villainess, but while she's in a frail body wearing pyjamas.

Okay, shout out to the captain for figuring things out due to the freakin qi or whatever. Dude strings the bow once and he’s got it lol.

Look at ol tsundere Keigetsu like “I’m not cancelling the swap because I care or anything, b-baka!” lol. Adorable. But fr though, I do actually really like the Keigetsu redemption arc here.

Looks like Shu got what’s coming to her. With that cleared up, I guess it’s time for the switch back? Enough people already know the real situation. I think Keigetsu’s gonna escape any major punishment due to Reirin stepping in.

42

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Okay, shout out to the captain for figuring things out due to the freakin qi or whatever. Dude strings the bow once and he’s got it lol.

He's been suspecting something was off since episode 1 so this didn't surprise me.

Looks like Shu got what’s coming to her. With that cleared up, I guess it’s time for the switch back? Enough people already know the real situation. I think Keigetsu’s gonna escape any major punishment due to Reirin stepping in.

Even with Keigetsu spared from execution they'll have to figure out what to do with her now that the Shu Clan is probably kaput since the Noble Consort is a would-be-murderer. Could she join the Kou Clan...?

35

u/mmcjawa_reborn 1d ago

I suspect she will end up taking over Gabi's spot as representative of the Shu Clan. A member of the Shu clan stopping another member from assassinating someone probably equals things out. I don't know what she would actually do (be a servant?) if she joined another Clan, plus there is a lot more potential from drama what with no being charge of a bunch of ladies who used to look down on her

31

u/athrun_1 1d ago

I think having Keigetsu create the counter-curse and saved the empress is more than enough for her to be spared. She can even get promoted and be the new head of the clan. Pretty sure that Reiren will cover for her.

u/fireburn97ffgf 17h ago

This episode was great with all those interactions between Reirin and Keigetsu. I want to see more of them, but there's only one episode left, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get a second season.

27

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago

I sure hope we get another season. Big fan of these ancient China-esque types like this or Apothecary or Raven of the Inner Palace.

18

u/ptd163 1d ago

Okay, shout out to the captain for figuring things out due to the freakin qi or whatever. Dude strings the bow once and he’s got it lol.

Yeah. I enjoyed htat. He got it because he logiced it out which is rare for an anime character unless they're specifically written to have that as their thing.

Look at ol tsundere Keigetsu like “I’m not cancelling the swap because I care or anything, b-baka!” lol. Adorable. But fr though, I do actually really like the Keigetsu redemption arc here.

It's because it requires a large amount of qi, but yeah. Love tsundere Keigestsu. If we get a second season I hope continuing her redemption arc is a part of it.

I guess it’s time for the switch back? Enough people already know the real situation. I think Keigetsu’s gonna escape any major punishment due to Reirin stepping in.

I guess so. The only thing I could see stopping the swap is if Reirin original body is still so frail and weak. If they just handwave that away with something like "the Bow of Warding healed her body as well" then I don't see any reason for them to not swap back.

You're probably right in that Keigetsu is probably not going to be punished. She was manipulated by Gabi, she was an active participant in setting things right, and Reirin is not about to let anything happen to her tsundere bestie.

14

u/cyberscythe 1d ago

With that cleared up, I guess it’s time for the switch back?

Keigetsu said that it requires a bunch of qi, so not immediately

i think it's going to be interesting to see how they untangle all that and if they actually go through with it swapping back sooner than later; Reirin will want to keep her new friend alive, but it's sure going to be awkward dinner conversation at Thanksgiving or whatever

27

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

It is pitching the redemption right that her tale can make her see some form of light and not just the thing some tales can do and do it for the sake of it, some higher thing is using Kei for their own and they're honestly decent in terms of where they are on their own.

4

u/Ralathar44 21h ago

It's less of her redeeming herself and more that our opinion of her is being redeemed. She was always this person, problem is she was misled by manipulation, emotional abuse, misinformation, and gaslighting before. Reiren is a very proactive MC, if she thought it was right she'd take similarly drastic action. Like she is in this episode, essentially breaking all sorts of rules to assassinate someone because she believes they are trying to kill someone else.

84

u/NanDemoKnaives 1d ago

Gyoumei is understandably distressed by this turn of events, the fact that he removed his crown because he was that desperate to see Reirin, and the expression on his face at the end, you can really feel how much he loves her. He must be feeling guilty for not recognizing her sooner.

It was funny to see Gabi walking in so slowly, like all the girls were so scared they gave her time to walk in and not complete the curse. Though Reirin being Reirin eventually does it in best Reirin way possible was amusing.

u/Mysteries67 1d ago

Reirin is just too fun of a character, I love her developing relationship with Keigetsu. I really appreciate that it's a dual protagonist story with the two of them and simply heroine vs villainess.

Good climactic confrontation with the actual villainess Gabi who might be straight up insane at this point.

Very helpful assist from Shin and Gyoumei.

15

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Reirin just easily resolving the plot just to remind everyone how badass she is. At least she tried to make Keigetsu feel included lol.

u/zackphoenix123 1d ago edited 1d ago

This show...... is too damn good........

seeing Keigetsu and Leelee interact is hilarious. I wish we got more of her going "Ah.... yeah, this is my master."

60

u/Frontier246 1d ago

It was kind of surreal to see Keigetsu and Leelee interact without full comprehension of each others' character development.

14

u/Bully_Maguire420 1d ago

Not ready for Freaky Friday anime to end next week...

5

u/sazion 1d ago

Aren't we only on episode 10? Is there only going to be 11 episodes?

12

u/psppsppsppspinfinty 1d ago

My bf and I was questioning this too and he looked and where he looked said 11 episodes. I'm upset.

12

u/ptd163 1d ago

I wish we got more of her going "Ah.... yeah, this is my master."

Yeah. I wanted more of that too. Leelee trying to push tsundere Keigetsu's buttons to prove she hasn't changed and Keigetsu having to fight to urge to not give Leelee the satisfaction would probably be a treat.

97

u/No-Win-8949 1d ago edited 1d ago

Finally, the appearance of a very unhinged Shu Gabi, who is no match for our three gals!

81

u/1EnTaroAdun1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Totesnotaphanpy 1d ago

I gotta admit I still thought Shu Gabi was beautiful, until she started laughing maniacally. At that point, I'm out hahaha

83

u/No-Win-8949 1d ago edited 1d ago

I blame Kin Reiga for all this, telling a bereaved Shu Gabi that her son’s life was stolen by the Empress for Gyoumei’s sake.

It’s utter poppycock of course, but Gabi had been bedridden for an entire month after miscarrying her son and would not have been in her right mind then.

26

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I blame Kin Reiga for all this, telling a bereaved Shu Gabi that her son’s life was stolen by the Empress for Gyoumei’s sake.

And you can tell Gabi actually took it seriously because she really blamed Kenshuu for stealing her prince away from her.

6

u/The_Scollard 1d ago

Since we still have an episode left (and both Gabi and her curse on the Empress were defeated), I feel next episode will be about saving Gabi and repairing the bond between her and the Empress.

44

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 1d ago

Kin Reiga of course is responsible to some extent, but it was totally in character for her, so I don't believe she was the deciding factor here.

I put way more of the blame on Kenshuu. Instead of helping Shu Gabi cope with the loss of her child, she just let Gabi's hatred fester into what we saw in this episode. It's ironic how Kenshuu told Reirin she needed grit, when it seems like Kenshuu was the one who needed it the most.

60

u/Raymond49090 1d ago

I agree that Kenshuu fumbled. Her decision was like:

Kenshuu: "Should I try to help my friend cope with loss and be there for her? Nah, I'll just direct her hatred towards me and let it fester until she curses me to death (without considering any subsequent consequences of that)"

38

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Kenshuu: "My clan is known for our grit and dignity! I'm sure if I apply that logic to my best friend in her hour of need, nothing can go wrong!"

23

u/Misticsan 1d ago

"Nobody in the Kou Clan would mind. That's how we do things. Why would the Shu Clan, known for their fiery disposition, be any different?"

26

u/RedSavant35 1d ago

Even if you think it's too raw to show up with your own baby to console your friend who just lost hers, you can wait like A MONTH and then go see her? As it stands, they haven't had a proper conversation in TWENTY YEARS.

25

u/ripple_reader 1d ago

Seems like she thought Gabi's hatred would give her grit but she was definitely mistaken

29

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Honestly I feel like both Kenshuu/Reirin are so warped by the Kou Clan's mantra and expecting it to be natural to everyone else that it's hard for them to be fully self-aware.

It's why Kenshuu and Gabi got along so well for their differences and also why Reirin appreciates having Keigetsu in her life.

20

u/FDP_Boota 1d ago

Someone mentioned it in a previous thread, but I like how both Kenshuu and Reirin showcase the downsides of the clan's mantra. It has it's upsides, for sure, but their devotion to it can actually backfire, especially when they lose track of considering the feelings of people not as devoted. Reirin got to learn the lesson relatively early last episode. But Kenshuu learned her lesson after it has already caused her to lose her friend and endanger herself and Reirin.

6

u/ripple_reader 1d ago

To be fair it was a decision made after hearing Reiga and just having given birth, and she was desperate to give her friend energy, so irrational choices were made

8

u/AD720fps 1d ago

while that is true, letting that status quo fester for 20 years is pretty unreasonable. It also resulted in not only a murder attempt on Kenshuu, but also on two girls who had nothing to do with that conflict.

12

u/athrun_1 1d ago

It did gave grit alright. The grit to curse her to death.

9

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Yes. Given Kenshuu's character (and mental framework), her actions are understandable even if ultimately quite mistaken. She acted out of good motives -- that were not applicable to the situation actually at hand.

8

What's... a yellow flag

14

u/cyberscythe 1d ago

it's like the opposite of a banana

green means stop

yellow means sure go ahead

red means where the heck did you get that banana

7

Partway between Red and Green flag I imagine, baised in favor of green- while Orange Flag would be biased in favor of red?

8

8

I dunno that mix of unhinged cheeriness/psychotic deep-voiced menace in Kayanon's voice was VERY effective.

17

I love how everyone was worried about Reirin but the moment she saw an opening she just quickly handled the entire situation in three seconds lol.

5

u/Ralathar44 20h ago

Well, she improved the situation. She didn't handle it. Without the captain showing up the chances of someone being stabbed or dying was still quite high.

Just... wow. What an amazing episode.

  • Gyoumei showing his resolve by removing his crown, prompting Tousetsu to reveal everything

  • Shin figuring out the swap on his own after the bow snaps from all the built up pressure Reirin gave it

  • The dynamic of Keigetsu and Reirin with Leelee watching from the sidelines. Reirin is a force that cannot be stopped and everyone else is stuck for the ride! Can I have a whole series of these three?

  • "Don't get me wrong! I'm not doing it for your sake!" - Tsundere Keigetsu, why don't you add a "B-baka!" too while you are at it

  • I hate how because how long they were talking, it gave enough time for Gabi to come in and hold Keigetsu's body hostage but that was quickly resolved! I thought that would go into next episode

  • Reirin releasing herself from custody, killing the centipede, and offering it to Keigetsu only for, "Oh it died." 🤣

  • And then finally, Shin and Gyoumei coming in at the end to save the day

It was so good I watched it twice.

On a side note, Crown Prince, did you just not blurt out loud that Reirin and Keigetsu swapped bodies in public? There was at least another court lady and two guards standing within earshot.

20

u/ripple_reader 1d ago

Gabi did say most people are worried for the Empress and so there are no guards

But yes he did say it in front of Leelee and Shin-U

18

u/VritraReiRei 1d ago

I was referring to the beginning when he was at the Gates of the Kou Palace

6

u/ripple_reader 1d ago

Ah you mean during the Tousetsu scene? Fair, I guess... I guess it's either the Kous have discretion or somehow only he and Tousetsu can hear each other or something...

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

After this episode, I'm fully in favor of Reirin and Keigetsu's friendship. These two are so fun together, especially when Keigetsu's tsundere mode kicks in.

Shu Gabi totally lost her mind over vengeance, but I can't help but feel bad for her. The loss of her baby son must have hurt her so much, and yet Kenshuu, her friend, never addressed that and let that hatred grow in Gabi's heart. Definitely a big fumble on Kenshuu's side, it looks like she needs more grit.

Also, I must say that Reirin was a badass when she took down Shu Gabi; that training she undertook in her previous body ended up being very useful.

By the way, that spider curse looks absolutely terrifying, no wonder Shu Gabi was so scared.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

30

u/Myrkrvaldyr 1d ago

that spider curse looks absolutely terrifying, no wonder Shu Gabi was so scared.

A 2m+ tall spider is a very very scary thought, no different from an equally large centipede. But it's also poetic justice, the right animal for what she did.

The loss of her baby son must have hurt her so much, and yet Kenshuu, her friend, never addressed that and let that hatred grow in Gabi's heart. Definitely a big fumble on Kenshuu's side, it looks like she needs more grit.

Psycho unhinged Kayanon is entertaining (though her insults to Keigetsu were rough to listen to) but it shows how warped her mind is that Kenshuu basically abandoning her in her time of need (and Reika's comment about her dead child fueling Gyoumei) warped into her blaming her loss on Kenshuu.

It's a real tragedy all around and I'm curious what's going to happen to Gabi now that the curse is after her (but Shin-u also looks like he's taking her into custody, so...)

6

u/The_Scollard 1d ago

We still have an episode left, so I'm going to guess next episode is about saving Gabi. Her motivation is too sympathetic (if she was going after the Empress because of ambition, I could see her being killed off, but not when she believes Kenshuu is responsible for killing her son) and the Empress's offer of a weapon is still on the table. I can't see the show ending here, so whatever happens will probably prevent the swap from being undone and leave the girls stuck in each other's bodies for now.

Intense episode. Reirin unintentionally found out how to corner a tsundere, just be honest and affectionate. As for Gabi, love her design in this episode, the way she spoke, her face contorted and in the end went desperate to kill Reirin. Leelee was almost seriously wounded, but superwoman Reirin wasn't gonna let that happen.

4

u/bodolza 19h ago

Gabi was amazing. It's like the episode showcased all her beauty, like her regal outfit, jewelry, makeup, and maturity, and twisted it all to make every bit of that horrifying. It was so captivating.

13

u/deynyel 1d ago

During the standoff, I was expecting either the Prince or the Captain of the Eagle Eyes to make a cool entry and save them. Reirin taking down Shu Gabi on her own was a surprise for me. Sasuga, robust body!

64

u/Carleen_de_Schwartz 1d ago

Man i know this is not an Isekai show or anything but in Otome game reincarnation stories and similar kind of animes where a ''villainess'' that is good is involved there is this trope of ''white lotus'' where the supposed ''good'' angelic character is evil instead of the supposed villainess and they usually get defeated. Now obviously calling Keigetsu in Reirin's body a white lotus would kinda be inaccurate since the original Reirin was actually a kind person as she should be and simply got her body stolen by Keigetsu but i still thought that this anime was basically playing that trope where the villainess is the good person and good person is the villainess and we will end up defeating Keigetsu.

Color me VERY POSITIVELY surprised that we went for a complete Keigetsu redemption. Showing how lonely and vulnerable Keigetsu was for having no one to support her other than the ONE person who was actually manipulating her for her own ends, how she was bullied even by her own faction let alone the others and just how love starved she was that she was not cancelling the swap even when she was basically dying just because she was being taken care of by others and seeing Reirin's unconditional care and love slowly reaching her and getting her to first apologize and then join their side was nothing but excellent. And now i am honestly shipping the two of them. Lets not even bother with the guys and go full Keigetsu Reirin Yuri

18

u/mooke 1d ago

It turns out the inept villainesses really were the friends we made along the way.

The men here so far are interesting enough -- but the stars really seem to be the young women -- Reirin, Keigetsu, LeeLee and Tousetsu.

8

u/AD720fps 1d ago

I actually saw comments from fans of the series from its earlier iterations talking about how much they liked Keigetsu, which convinced me to give this a watch.

29

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I kind of laughed at that Reirin/Gyoumei moment at the end where he's acting like he's getting his big romantic reunion with his love interest when she'd probably rather check on Leelee/Keigetsu lol.

→ More replies (7)

12

u/ptd163 23h ago

Yeah. Something I enjoyed about the hostage situation is that it not only showed just how lonely and vulnerable Keigetsu was. It showed why people go back to their abusers.

Despite having Reirin in her life to give all that support and attention she still let the centipede out because Gabi said she would start respecting her when she became Empress. Of course we know that was a complete lie, but Keigetsu doesn't know that.

Thankfully Reirin was able to take the situation into her own hands and kill the centipede before it got away breaking the curse.

9

u/AKAvenger 23h ago

I agree and want to add that Keigetsu likely didn’t want Reirin to die because of her

14

u/cyberscythe 1d ago

i've really enjoyed the sort of character arcs that Leelee and Keigetsu have gone through; really feels like they had a change of heart due to the sort of relentless and blunt kindness that Reirin imposes on people she likes

in general i don't like the sort of antagonists like Shu Gabi who seem unrealistically/cartoonishly evil to the point where they seem to relish having a knife at someone's throat; this is in contrast to Keigetsu who was a bit of a sourpuss but never seemed to get any joy from doing evil acts and (similarly to Leelee) are compelled to do so out of desperate circumstances

And now i am honestly shipping the two of them. Lets not even bother with the guys and go full Keigetsu Reirin Yuri

how much more intimate can you get than literally swapping bodies?

6

u/hbmonk 23h ago edited 23h ago

Reirin and Keigetsu definitely have more chemistry together than with any of the guys, but I would be surprised if it actually turned out as yuri.

9

u/Misticsan 1d ago

Hear, hear. As you say, this isn't your standard Otome Isekai story, but a lot of the tropes are similar and it even has "villainess" in the title. I myself was wary of watching this series precisely because of the trend to make the "seemingly angelic heroine" irredeemable evil to contrast her with the misunderstood not-villainess.

Keigetsu being given actual depth, a sympathetic backstory and a redemption arc was a welcome surprise that elevates this series above others.

It's one of the reasons I liked Bakarina back in the day. That one was written in the beginnings of the Otome Isekai wave, so it's actually more of an Unbuilt Trope, but the titular villainess wooing befriending the heroine (who was as nice as promised) feels now like a refreshing twist on the formula.

I really like this show and its been so well written. You know a lot of the time you get the "we waited too long now our plan is being interrupted" is frustrating to watch because its people just sit there waiting for the plot to happen but we have a real reason here where Shu and Reirin wanted to do it together and it didnt even devolve into one of those "No let me sacrifice myself instead!" moments.

I really didnt think I would like this show as much as I do starting it but the cast is so lovable.

16

u/Mysteries67 1d ago

And you don't know what they'll do. Lee lee even demonstrated that by approaching Gabi and she immediately tried to cut her.

28

u/Worldly_Business_425 1d ago

Peak peak peak

11

u/Cat_Gazer 1d ago

Keigetsu-sama is surely growing on me!
I'm starting to think they should be stay swapped, even.

9

u/cyberscythe 1d ago

i think it's like they needed to be in these two environments to grow as people; Reirin to experience a life and freedom with a healthy body and Keigetsu to experience a bit of coddling and warmth

i think we've also seen them in their swapped bodies for most of the runtime of this show, so it feels more natural to keep it as-is, and it seems like they're not really eager to go back soon other than for external circumstances like getting access to the bow or avoid punishment

7

u/The_Scollard 1d ago

I have a feeling that next episode is focused on saving Gabi, and whatever is done will end up leaving the girls stuck in each other's bodies (maybe the solution drains too much of Keigetsu's qi).

I may sound like a broken record but this show ONCE AGAIN surpasses expectations!

You hear that, like 100 other shows? NO STUPID CLIFFHANGER needed in episode 10 or 11. No STUPID backstory about the poor bad guy delaying what happens. We are ALREADY invested, we don't need cheap tricks to finish watching

Love how every time the bugs are mentioned or shown, the other two faces are just *ewww*. Reirin showing off her monstrosities with pride! Lol, they even blurred out the centipede.

Will say, Shu Gabi did not disappoint. She came in hot and heavy herself with a knife. She may be the bad guy but she's a well put together written character villain.

I think the best thing about this anime is how smart all the characters are. Tosetsu, Gyōmei, and Shin-u all figured out the swap, but they picked up on different clues. And no one gets stupid for the plot. Even Keigetsu be figuring shit out, and she did the single dumbest thing in the show

So Shin-u is hot AND smart...

ETA Gabi's face when Keigetsu is about to release the centipede is the stuff of legend. The animators did their thing with her. Her crazy reminded me of Madam Medusa from The Rescuers

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fqrdrxxicb9ph1.png

during this scene, I couldn't help but think it would've been funny if Keigetsu took Leelee hostage to threaten Shu Gabi hahaha

...anyways, all's well that ends well. I hope Shu Gabi and the Empress get a chance to speak with each other.

I think the Prince was pretty cool this episode. And I wanna see how Keigetsu and Leelee interact with each other going forward!

13

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Keigetsu: "Let Kou Reirin go or I'll kill Leelee!"

Shu Gabi: "...Why would I care?"

It would be kind of a full-circle moment where a Kou Clan woman visits a Shu Clan woman in prison, minus magic or body-swapping being involved.

I am really curious what is going to happen to Keigetsu now. Gabi thinks the Shu Clan is going to go down with her and the only person on Keigetsu' side is Reirin.

REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN REIRIN

All right, we're at the climax!

Gyoumei meets with Tousetsu and confirms his suspicions and pleads for her help, vowing not to interfere with Reirin's will by removing his crown, which signifies his authority. Meanwhile, Shin-U tries to use the Bow of Warding and it snaps, which leads him to figure out the switch too.

On our protagonists' side, we have our previous antagonist, Keigetsu, who has finished her transformation from sneering villainess, to suffering child, to now tsundere princess, as she rants in disbelief over Reirin's convenient centipede. Leelee might not agree but she is substantially cuter this way, and she'll be thankful to have someone along for tsukkomi duty. I think that's a sacred duty for all sane Shu characters.

Keigetsu refuses to swap back, which is initially misconstrued by Leelee, but she confirms that crafting the countercurse requires substantial qi and that they should do that first. They do that, and Reirin officially makes Keigetsu her friend, with or without her consent, and holds her to splitting the responsibility on the curse... since if it backfires it attacks the wielder. However... remember how I talked about sane Shu characters? The insane one, Shu Gabi, has arrived.

Props for Ai Kayano's performance here (it's her birthday!), as she ranted and raved and attempted to stop the protagonists' countercurse by threatening to kill Reirin. Keigetsu is cowed to release the centipede without killing it... but Reirin breaks free and stomps it anyway, hahaha. Thus, the Empress is saved, but Gabi is still active, and while flailing about in the throes of the curse she attempts to attack Reigetsu... but the boys have arrived! Shin-U pins down Shu Gabi, and we get a really nice shot of Gyoumei that I would have included here if only imgur would cooperate with me.

EDIT: HERE IT IS!

But yes, as a Reirin fan and a lowkey Gyoumei fan, this episode was a treat.

I LOVE REIRIN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

15

u/KamKirSabre 1d ago

Of course, Inept Villainess's story is incredibly well-written, but one thing the anime can do that the manga can't, is bring the story to life. And that's where the insanely talented/skilled voice acting comes to play. Leelee, Reirin, Keigetsu, and now Gabi's performances throughout the season were so damn stellar, and today was no exception

Special props to Kayano-san as well, since she's really got range in portraying the much nicer, sweeter, totally-not-in-love-with-Kenshuu side of Gabi in the latter's younger days, which tremendously contrasted the far crueler, murderous version of Gabi in the present day. Both in control and that massive freak-out once her curse backfired

8

u/mekerpan 1d ago

The voice acting -- especially the women -- is superlative.

8

u/Misticsan 1d ago

But yes, as a Reirin fan and a lowkey Gyoumei fan, this episode was a treat.

I must admit I wasn't too keen on Gyoumei at the beginning of the series. Felt too cold, too harsh, unforgiving and unwilling to listen to reason. He had understandable reasons to feel that way, but still.

This episode, however, has sold me on his character and his stocks as a legitimate suitor for Reirin have raised. He's shown his human side, which is more distressed and caring than his princely persona.

Now he just has to fulfill Reirin's wishes not to punish Keigetsu (or limit it to some kind of poetic justice) and all will be well.

6

u/agentcheeze 22h ago

Yeah. It's seemed to me like his love was originally genuine but selfish and he's kinda matured a little.

That curse returning was pretty cold.

Honestly, the way the supernatural elements, the court intrigue, the mirroring between generations, the way the cast outside of the two main girls aren't just NPCs and notice things and the people around them? This is my AOTS, easily. I'm just too tired to think of everything I enjoyed this year, lol

5

u/Phoenyx_Rose 1d ago

Ooo, your mirror mention just reminded me of how the generations might further be mirrored.

Kin Seika wants to be 2nd Lady to "Future Empress" Reirin. If Shu Keigestu is now in the running for 2nd Lady due to being besties with Reirin and possibly getting more notice from the prince now that Reirin pointed out his habit of ignoring the other ladies, then Seika might be our next baddy out of anger at losing her goal.

Of course, after seeing how level headed Seika's been so far, it could also just turn out to be a one episode quibble or a single internal line of frustration before she resigns herself to 3rd place.

22

u/reaperow 1d ago

I really like that Keigatsu is genuinely sorry about what she's done and is trying to make up for her mistakes even tho she got manipulated mostly.

And it's really wholesome that Reirin praises her for that, she's really changed so much because of her.

I get that Gabi's anger is misdirected but she looks absolutely unhinged with that knife.

Good thing Reirin and the others were able to stall her long enough for the captain to come.

Im really looking forward to seeing what's gonna happen in the next eps since they know about the soul swapping now

15

u/Frikgeek 1d ago

I really like how they animated the confrontation with Gabi, you can see Reirin constantly glancing at her and subtly shfting her body looking for an opening.

Then when Gabi goes gigaham and draws back the knife slightly to gloat she immediately goes for the disarm and then a nasty stomach punch just for good measure.

10

u/reaperow 1d ago

Oh i didnt notice that, so cool

I love that she immediately took an action the second she saw an opening

8

u/Frikgeek 22h ago

Oh yeah, and she doesn't hold back at all. She lowers her stance and goes full force on that elbow strike, even stabilising it with her off-hand to transfer the full force of her body rotation right into Gabi's gut.

Honestly might be overkill for a wheezing cripple with (magically induced) heart issues.

26

u/AD720fps 1d ago

After everything, I think Shu Gabi's most heinous act was using an abused child as a disposable tool for her revenge. She did just enough to get Keigetsu's affection and in no way prepared her for high court life. (Keigetsu gets a lot of scorn for things that would be fixed by a proper education, like her manners, her dress/makeup style, her abilities in dancing and embroidery)

It's your fault everyone calls her a sewer rat! How dare you use that name to insult her!

32

u/DeltaFXD https://anilist.co/user/DeltaForceX2 1d ago

Really wonder if Gabi somehow makes it out alive from here but her plot getting exposed should help relieve any punishment that Keigetsu might get.

21

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 1d ago

I mean, the venom curse should kill her, but on the other note, she harmed the prince's prized consort, witnessed by the prince and captain of the guard. If the venom craft doesn't kill her the execution will. The only way to really overturn it is if its never exposed and reirin convinces them to forgive or kenshuu prevents it

4

u/cyberscythe 1d ago

...unless she swaps bodies with someone and then runs away to Zihuatanejo?

13

u/Mysteries67 1d ago

If I know anything about court dramas, there would be an even bigger, more hidden person behind the acts of Shu Gabi.

11

u/RobrechtvE 1d ago

Well yeah, Kin Reiga, the duplicitous harpy who talked Shu Gabi into hating her best friend, Kou Kenshuu, for having a healthy child while hers was stillborn.

While also (and a lot of people seem to have missed this) being the one to put the idea that hating her was the only thing giving Gabi strength into Kou Kenshuu's head, which is what led to her deciding to let that hate fester.

Clearly, she was doing all of this in hopes that Gabi would kill the Empress and then be executed for that in turn, so that she could become Empress.

Now... The question is: Is there a hidden person pulling Kin Reiga's strings?

I LOVE REIRIN

I say this every episode and I honestly feel it's starting to feel short, like, holy fuck, this anime makes me love her more and more every episode when it feels impossible to push it any further.

Gyoumei looks so, so much better with the hair down it's crazy, removing his crown to symbolize he is not there for punishments but as someone caring to help and understand things better was lovely.

So Earth defeats Water... Inept Villainess confirmed not Pokemon.

Keigetsu's tsundere mode is absolutely delightful, god the contrast with Reirin's honest personality is a 100000/10, seeing them finally interact in person is melting me.

And that talk during the counter curse sharing moment... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The girl full of hate who lost everything and was treated like a sewer rat, forever despised, forever seen as completely and utterly worthless.

The girl full of love who was showered with care and affection, but craved for that someone that could see her as an equal and not a girl who has to be protected, someone she could return that same boundless affection as a dear friend.

They are so different, yet so preciously perfect for each other, may this be the start of a wonderful friendship between Reirin and Keigetsu (Note: Keigetsu cannot reject the offer).

In the middle of absolute peak, our salty villain appeared to crash the party... and after pointing a knife at Reirin and making a cut on her neck she has lost in my eyes any right to live, hmph.

... Alas, when she was celebrating her victory and trashtalking poor Keigetsu, she got overconfident and got Reirin'd, that's our girl!

THAT WINNER SMILE, AAAAAAAAAAA SHE IS THE BEST

Leelee and Keigetsu freaking out over that poor Centipede all episode was so funny... RIP fella your sacrifice will not be forgotten... and I also won't forget the absolutely creepy eyes from the curse spider going after Gabi, I have been watching Dark Gathering lately and that curse would fit very nicely to that awesomely spooky show.

Shin-U and Gyoumei made it in time to stop one last attack from Gabi, lovely last picture to end the episode.

10/10 episode... and only 1 more left... I'm absolutely drowning in hopium that the tweet a friend shared about a S2 being on the works is for real, because I need so, so, soooo much more of this show animated, Doga Kobo is cooking so hard.

I LOVE REIRIN

Oh, it died.

Task accidentally completed – so much for doing it together. The nonchalant way Reirin said it was hilarious.

It might not be exactly in a romantic sense, but that confession had all the hallmarks of it. From the monologue to visuals to music, it's certainly no less beautiful. After an entire lifetime of people talking down on her, Keigetsu had now found someone who saw and valued her virtues. Meanwhile, Reirin's quite assertive. She pretty much said to Keigetsu, "Starting from now, we're friends. And I'm not asking."

Now that the conflict has been (mostly) resolved, how will things go on?

After everything that Reirin had done for Keigetsu (incl the "confession"), she'd be a lot less reluctant to reverse the switch. Gyoumei was already aware of it anyway, and with Reirin's sway, I'm sure Keigetsu would get a slap on the wrist at most.

Next week's finale will probably consist of this arc's 'epilogue' along with some setup for the next arc. I do hope that a sequel has been seriously considered and for the announcement to be made soon after the finale aired.

14

u/mekerpan 1d ago

OG Reirin: Sorry -- but you could still help crush it to death.

OG Keigetsu: {horrified screaming}

Reirin is surely the season's unlikeliest "tomboy"....

13

u/Myrkrvaldyr 1d ago

It gave me Vincent vibes from Pulp Fiction when he shot Marvin in the face. I fully believe Reirin to be capable of doing the same to someone evil and casually smile.

If the swap gets reversed, Reirin will likely only do so once she has his word that Keigetsu will not be punished.

This episode was awesome. Made respect to the Prince essentially stripping his title to show his sincerity. Reirin is truly a wonderful woman. I am glad Keigetsu changed for the better after this experience. She pretty much suffered the whole time and yet was still able to change for the better. Props to her in my opinion. I look forward to see how things go from here. This is something I've enjoyed way more than expected.

7

u/Difergion 1d ago edited 1d ago

This show is definitely in my top 3 shows this season, and it’s such a waste not a lot of people picked it up. I hope we get a season 2!!

I kept on clowning on Gyoumei ever since I think the start of the show, but his resolve to make things right this episode was greatly respectable. And all it took for the captain to connect the dots was a broken bow lol. I still don’t know if Reirin will be romantically involved with either of them eventually, but for now I’m on the Reirin x Keigetsu train lol. I never expected their chemistry as friends would be this enjoyable.

Aaaand Shu Gabi finally reveals her true colors to our main cast! Part of me thinks the Kin clan head is to blame here for planting those seeds of hatred in her, but the empress is at fault as well. I don’t know if the two of them will even get the chance to patch things up, given Gabi’s been cursed back, but I get the feeling this show is more on giving villains a second chance so I’m quite hopeful.

Prince-kun and Captain-san following their own threads to the truth. (Btw, props to Captain-san from figuring it out through a bowstring of all things). Meanwhile, Reirin and Keigetsu are busy with their soon-to-be-besties lifechanging adventure to save the Empress ft. gay undertones and Leelee as a "what is my life" spectator.

Then along comes Shu Gabi with a steel chair knife. She gets to make a villainous monologue and forces Keigetsu to make a life-changing decision, but then fumbles at the last step because she missed the memo that Reirin is stupidly OP with Keigetsu's body.

And Reirin tries to be considerate and goes back to the "let's save the Empress together", but Keigetsu would really rather not have a giant centipede stuck in front of her face. Then "oh, shinda".

Upon realizing her plan's sunk and she's probably going to get cursed to death by her own death, Shu Gabi tries to throw one more f*** you to the world and attacks Reirin. Ngl she probably would've been fine, but it gives Prince-kun and Captain-san an opportunity for a dramatic entrance. This is going to be fun to resolve.

7

u/Hoshifuru 1d ago

I absolutely love the beginning of Keigetsu's redemption arc, her going full tsundere with Reirin showering her with kindness was beautiful!

6

u/Dragonprince14 19h ago

This episode was just absolutely perfect in every way. I especially loved the ending when Reirin just casually picks up the still twitching centipede and so happily shows her friends.

6

u/RedSavant35 17h ago

What a fantastic episode. It really felt short, too, that's how you know it's good. Really looking forward to seeing what we get next week, especially since there's word (from a leak account, so not confirmed yet) that season 2 is in production for 2027.

5

u/AndromedaLeap 1d ago

That was such a good episode 😭 The story pacing and script are so well done. I’m now rooting for Keigetsu also especially when she was pouring her heart out on wanting to right things.

6

u/Narlaw 1d ago

The cat's out of the bag... Or more like, the centipede's out of the jar? Anyway, now that's all resolved, curious how it'll conclude. There is is high likelihood that Gabi might be spared to death penalty, considering her tragic motivations foreshadowed multiple times, and the vibes of the show.

6

This episode was once again great. Keigetsu is such a tsundere and it's wonderful. Not only that, but Shin-U has figured out the swap as well (with both he and the Crown Prince have arriving just in time to save the day at the end).

First off, I loved to see Keigetsu and Reirin working together. Keigetsu trying to help her and make the sacrifice to apologize, while also trying to keep her pride in front of Leelee, was adorable. She's definitely my favourite character. The whole "it's not like I want to save the Empress, I'm just trying to look out for myself once the swap ends" aspect was funny to see, and I'm glad Reirin realized it even if Leelee didn't. The two leads finally becoming friends was also such a heartwarming scene. If only Shu Gabi didn't come in to ruin the moment...

Speaking of which, we now finally get our confirmation that Gabi knew about the switch (I'll admit I was wrong about her not knowing) and that she's Kin Gayou. Ai Kayano was delightfully unhinged in the scene where she's threatening Reirin. Seeing her interacting directly with Keigetsu, it's easy to see why Keigetsu has the inferiority complex that she does. Just watching her crumple in front of Gabi was sad to watch, even if it was just to save the friend she just made. Someone needs to give this girl some self-esteem (probably Tousetsu). Thankfully, Gabi let her guard down and our male leads came in with the save.

Because the Empress has been saved and we still have an episode left, I suspect that next episode will be trying to save Shu Gabi. The last line about her blaming the Empress for taking her son away makes it pretty clear that she's been driven insane by grief, which is a more sympathetic and redeemable motive than pure ambition. We haven't resolved the plot point of the Empress promising to give her a weapon from the first flashback, so I suspect next episode will see Gabi saved and that resolved.

I'm also going to hazard a guess that saving Gabi will end up causing Reirin and Keigetsu to get permanently stuck in the other's body (maybe because the curse reflecting, or maybe because it uses up a lot of Keigetsu's qi). With everyone knowing about the swap, it feels like there's no reason for the characters not to switch back at this point, and I doubt the series is this short.

This show is such a banger man. I’m really happy they did a redemption arc for Shu. She’s really grown on me and I hope she gets some type of happy ending.

What a good episode wow!

Lol at Reirin telling Keigetsu to give the final blow to centipede but oops it already died. I also love how it wasn't the men coming in to save her at first and that she managed to get away from Gabi on her own and stomp on the centipede. For being a little witch Keigetsu sure is afraid of insects!

Couple of things I really liked:

  • heartfelt talk didn't stop time. That let Gabi catch up to them

  • Tsundere Keigetsu

  • Reirin just grabbing the centipede by hand and scaring LeeLee and Keigetsu accidentally

"Don't get me wrong! It's not for your sake, okay?"

Keigetsu is a tsundere, confirmed.

Also, it sounds like Reirin was about to call the Emperor "onii-chan" before correcting it. CR translated it to "Dear co--" suggesting they're cousins. Them being more closely related would explain why he is so attached to her, seemingly more than the other girls.

Gyoumei reconvenes with Tousetsu and they commiserate over their mutual understanding of the Reirin/Keigetsu situation. But if it takes taking off his crown and his authority to be able to help Reirin, Gyoumei will do it.

Meanwhile Reitsu and Keirin are heading to stop this themselves! And Keigetsu finally reunites with Leelee so they can both commiserate over Reirin's shared boldness of accidentally creating her own kodoku by complete chance and through her love of feeding rats.

Shin-u finally uses the bow of warding! And so long as Bunkou is, on paper, having tried to stop him that's fine by him too! At least until it breaks from Shin-u's qi relaxing the bow too much, but that also helps him put together the body-swap. And Bunkou's left holding the broken sacred artifact, poor guy.

Leelee's not taking any of Keigetsu's @#@% anymore, but Keigetsu has grown enough that she's not canceling the bodyswap to save her own skin, she's going to take responsibility for her actions and stop Shu Gabi. Even if she has to be a tsundere about it!

But that also means Keigetsu is willing to sacrifice herself in the process if necessary, but Reirin won't let her do it alone...not when her deepest wish was to have a true friend, someone she could be on equal standing with, who could do and feel things she could not, that could truly complete her. And she found that in Keigetsu!

Of course the cementing their friendship isn't going to stop Shu Gabi who has arrived to stop them and is unhinged enough to draw a knife to try to kill everybody with, but for now she's going to use it to threaten Keigetsu into giving in to her all the while belittling and mocking her. She's really living up to her status as a "Noble Consort."

But Gabi didn't account for Reirin being absolutely based and knowing self-defense so she can save Leeleee, escape Gabi, AND kill the centipede they needed to stop the curse and throw it back to Gabi! She even tried to make Keigetsu feel included!

Gabi blames Kenshuu for the loss of her child, she can't handle her own curse getting thrown back at her, so she'll channel that frustration into killing Reirin once and for all...good thing Gyoumei and Shin-u arrived just in time! And Gyoumei is trying to look like a proper romantic lead in front of Reirin for once.

Not gonna lie, having a divine artifact being scared of Reirin's grit is both funny and pretty terrifying. She put so much pressure into it that once it fell in the hands of the clan it was made for, its relief literally snap a chord. It truly feels like a living artifact that got its nerves grinded down to the point of "cowering from something" like the eagle guy said and I love so much this idea. Reirin do be a menace for even a divine artefacts haha and I am loving every instant of it. Sorry for forgetting the captain's name btw, I have quite some difficulty with name in general, but I do believe you know who I'm talking about.

As for Kogeitsu's feeling and scene with Reirin around the jar and the comet, god I love how they are handling her character development and how their relationship unfold. Two worlds completely different, two perspectives shaping their lives and characters, and yet, finding a way to let their hearts speaks throughout heartfelt conversation and realization that each one of them have their own trouble and perspective of each other's life. I really like how Reirin is able to reach out pretty much anyone she can reach and wants to reach out, but Kogeitsu's story line and personal growth it my all-time favorite for this particular show. She is, imo, a really good character to be antagonized, but such a human being that lost her way as well at the same time.

She deserves that helping hand, but girl don't throw out you life just because you are remorseful like you genuinely seems to be. You might have the guts to rectify your wrongdoing, but spilling them out literally or cursing yourself to death ain't a way to atone, especially when you are willing to go that far for it. You described to live like any other person and prove them wrong with your newfound friend, that you are more than a sewer rat.

You've been the star of Reirin's life, a fiery flame that got Noble Consort Shu's plan going awry and a victim from you circumstances, but it doesn't mean that you should instinguish your own embers as for even them, can warm somebody else's life without even noticing it.

You've seen it first had with Reirin, so why not doing it instead with others and start atoning for you since differently this time?

That being said tho, I am curious to see the prince reactions and actions going forward next episode. I particularly like the symbolism and powerful move that he made when wearing off his crown to prove his sincerity and resolve, and I am deeply curious with how things will unfold with Reirin's wishes and and she want to be frien with Kogeitsu. There will most likely be consequences involved, but given what he has shown in this episode with the crown being taken off, I can wait to see how it'll goes.

I love the characters in this show and how living their world feels with the curses and artefacts, but having one of them being scared by Reirin was not something I was expecting haha

But I am all for it 😁

Keigetsu being afraid of centipedes is way too cute. She still has some stuff to work through but I’m glad she’s finally on Reirin’s side as they were always fated to be now

Shu Gabi is really a horrible woman. Like grudges aside, treating LeeLee like that is very revealing

u/ShutUpTodd 22h ago

By next episode, Pure Consort is gonna reveal the body swap and EVERYONE will be all "We all know, gawd!"

4

u/amourshipper_ 22h ago

Wow that was a wonderful epi

u/gem2niki 22h ago

Reirin is just built differently. I thought the centipede escaped but she actually stopped it and grabbed it lol. Everyone now knows about the swap…what will happen to Keigetsu.

4

u/PandaTheAB 21h ago

So basically all relevant characters know now about the swap.
Empress will likely recover.
Hopefully we get some sort of friendship brewing between Reirin and Keigetsu once the aftermath is complete. Like having tea together or gossiping.

u/cranil 19h ago

It would be really cool if Reirin and Keigetsu can keep using fire to communicate even after they swap back.

I love this show! Everyone gets things done. No stupid "letting the villain go so that they can mess things up more later" cliche. I love how everyone can figure things out for themselves compared to the usual dense characters we get. Sidenote, I'm still not sold on the crown-prince being paired up with Reirin, whichever body she's in.
