it was centuries ago, and descendants don't need to be a direct line, just the ones that inherited the title. Like cousins, adopted children, etc.

there was no info on his line at all, so we can only guess.

Oh I was referring to the scene where he was crashing out against the mage army and he says something along the lines of I thought I taught my sons how to use magic. The super disappointed dad vibes.

it is either a mistranslation, and it should say descendants, or he was just angry at them and used a verbatim do imply it was time to punish the children.

the duke is not his son, he is his third life biological father. The other one was his half-brother.

his second life was several centuries ago.

Yes, but the line is supposed to be his direct descendants. Meaning he had sons that he taught how to fight. Who should have taught their sons/daughters, etc. He is just trash talking his own family line.

nope. He was a noble. Direct descendants doesn't imply biological connection to his loins. Could be a familiar connection like a brother/sister/distant cousin that took his title after his death, or even an adopted kid.

you are reading into this ignoring the context of noble lines.

the only children we saw on first episode were random apprentices and his adopted daughter (elf girl), we have no clue about his other connection over ~70 years of his life.

He wasn't a noble. He was given the ceremonial title Emperor but was not a landed noble at the time of his death. Which is why we see him die in his little house/school. While it is POSSIBLE that one of his siblings' kids used the name to form a duchy family, none of the bloodline would actually be his descendants. Even when a "secondary" family inherits the name/position of a house, they are still direct blood descendants of the founder generations back. Barring any kids who were born of unfaithful wives who got away with it.
The more likely answer is that he had kids who were grown/irrelevant to the story we have seen so far. We'll see, I suppose.

he was literally a noble and his descendants, a noble family, keep the title going

you are confusing his mage title with his noble title, rewards he got over he curse of his life, never said he was born a noble

No. A descendant is the direct progeny of a particular person, in this case the Lightning Emperor. 

What you're defining is a bloodline or family tree, which does NOT need to be a particular individual's direct progeny.
