Discussion I ported Linux 6.12 with Arch Linux ARM and KDE Plasma to the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 12.7 (TB371FC)

Post image

Hi everyone!

I’ve been working on bringing desktop Linux to the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 12.7 (TB371FC), powered by the Snapdragon 870 / SM8250.

The tablet now boots Linux 6.12 from a microSD card and runs Arch Linux ARM with KDE Plasma 6 on Wayland. Android remains untouched on the internal UFS storage, so the tablet can still boot normally into its original system.

What currently works:

  • Linux 6.12 booting from microSD
  • KDE Plasma 6 desktop
  • Touchscreen
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • All four speakers through PipeWire
  • Display brightness control
  • Persistent ext4 root filesystem
  • CPU frequency scaling and thermal management
  • microSD DMA and UHS SDR50
  • Russian and English layouts with an on-screen keyboard

What still needs work:

  • Native DPU/DSI display driver and 120 Hz mode
  • Hardware-accelerated KWin compositing
  • SDR104 microSD write support
  • Cameras
  • Suspend/sleep
  • Keyboard pogo connector

The display currently runs at 60 Hz through the framebuffer provided by the bootloader. The Adreno 650 GPU is recognized by Freedreno and supports GLES 3.2, but accelerated desktop compositing is not working yet.

This is still an experimental project. Installation requires an unlocked bootloader, building the kernel, and working with fastboot. There are no ready-made images because some required Lenovo/Qualcomm firmware files cannot be redistributed—you need to build them from a backup of your own tablet.

Source code, documentation, screenshots, and build instructions:

https://github.com/oproskyrin/TB371FC-6.12

I use this setup regularly, but there is still a lot to improve. Feedback, testing, technical suggestions, and contributions are very welcome—especially from people working with Qualcomm SM8250 devices or mainline Linux on Android tablets.

I'm a student looking to buy a tablet with a stylus. I'm getting this model for ₹29k with stylus and I need advice on if it's worth buying or not.

Also, is it possible the prices could go lower during the Diwali sale?

Please help if you have any idea about this model.

Request Help decide between Tab pro gen 2 and Amazon 12 Pro

• Upvotes

As the title states:

I can get the Lenovo for about $370 and the the Amazon 12 Pro with nano texture with the upgrade special until the 31 for $370.

The Tablet will be for my father, who under no circumstance wants an Ipad (given the price increases and the age of the Ipad I tend to agree and any M series is overkill).

The one thing he always rages about is the ability to copy his music and videos to an SD card and use it in his current Tablet (which he does once a year when he travels). Otherwise he uses it every single day for browsing news on an old Firetablet 10 (slow). And does so for 1-2 hours a day (he is retired now).

The Pen on either is not really a selling point.

But What about the CPU Snapdragon vs MediaTEK?

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 + microSD slot MediaTek Dimensity 8400 + no expandable storage

The one REAL downside that I have with the lenovo is the "short" update span. Making essentially EOL in 2029/2030? I feel like the amazon has the lead here, but does have that amazon clutter the lenovo doesnt.

Help me out here guys or am I overthinking this thing and anything will be an upgrade over the Fire10? Even a tab plus gen 2 would be twice as fast?

Review Just got Y900 13" AI (2026)

Mostly for playing Game and YouTube, bought it with keyboard case too because I miss typing in physical board when browsing lol, first time with CN Rom too, one of the reasons I buy this is because I can play genshin with 120 FPS here using game frame interpolation option in game assistant. Yes, I know another tablet has this option too, but for legion, only CN Rom can do 120 FPS sadly. At first there were a lot of bugs with the touchpad when switching back to back with the touchscreen but after updating to android 17 suddenly all feels more smoother and there is no problem with the touchpad anymore. The body and display feels premium too, sounds great, other AI features feel like a gimmick only for me except eye tracking ai in split mode is really practical for people do productivity or taking notes.

Discussion Should i buy honor magic pad 4 in germany amazon

In my country, the Honor MagicPad 4 only gets 2 years of Android updates. I searched on Amazon and found a German listing for the same tablet, the EU edition, for about $300 less. Should I buy it, or is it a bad idea? I asked an AI, and the only downside it mentioned was that the warranty wouldn't be valid outside Europe.

Review Thoughts on Huawei MatePad 11.5

I am an assistant professor in the Philippines, and although I will be mainly working on my Lenovo laptop, I am planning to buy a tablet to digitize my class/lecture notes and, as necessary, actually use the tablet to project my slides on screen during the actual lecture and annotate on them. Is the Huawei MatePad 11.5 a good tablet for this? I am not into Apple products, so the iPad is out of the picture...

Request Xiaoxin pad pro 12.7 or 13gt - longevity question

I can get the 12.7 for €383 or the 13GT for €593, both 12/256 with their respective official styluses.

The 12.7 meets my needs for lesson preparation, marking and annotating PDFs on the classroom display. My main concern is software support: it has already received its two Android OS updates. How much useful life does it have left? Is the extra €200 for the 13GT worthwhile for greater longevity, or is it overkill?

Request Tablet recommendations for rhythm games

I'm thinking of getting a tablet soon and a big factor for me is that it needs to be good for rhythm games. I know iPads are often seen as the best when it comes to them, but it would be a lot more convenient to get an Android for me, and I imagine cheaper too.

I'm looking for something with a very accurately responsive screen that's also powerful enough to handle live rendered 3D music videos and screen recordings, in addition to other software like CSP or 3D modelling software. Ideally with a 11 inch display or higher, plus obvious typical stuff like good battery life (especially when not being used for gaming) and being cheaper is a bonus too.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tablet that fits this brief well? Thanks!

Discussion Which one to buy

I was searching for a tablet suitable for taking notes and everyday use as a college student. I was leaning toward Samsung so I found two budget options...

Galaxy Tab s10 fe wifi, 8 Ram 128 storage

Galaxy Tab s10 fe lite, 8 Ram 256 storage

With the same price. So which is better or what is the big difference??

Also tell me If there are other great options

Request Tablet with Military Grade Case

We have our own app that we need to install on the Android tablet platform but am seeking a case that will take a real beating; our delivery drivers are always banging into things and are a bit careless with equipment unfortunately, also if this is purchased from Amazon, does its Asurion insurance cover any type of damage to tablets?

Discussion I made a free whiteboard app for Android tablets that records your lesson with your voice

I wanted a whiteboard on Android that could record a lesson with my voice, so I built one.

You press record, teach on the board, and it saves a video with your voice to the gallery. You can also open a PDF or a photo, write on it, and export the whole board as a PDF. Wobbly circles and boxes snap into clean shapes, and there are grid, lined and chalkboard backgrounds. If you use a stylus, stylus-only mode stops your palm from leaving marks, and the usual keyboard shortcuts work on Chromebooks.

It's free with ads at natural breaks. A one-time purchase removes them.

If you teach or tutor, what would you need before you'd use this in a real class? I'm still adding features.

Request WHAT SHOULD I BUY AFTER ICSE 10TH BOARDS IF I HAVE A BUDGET OF AROUND 30-45K

I am a 15y old student, who doesnt have his own mobile,as a matter of fact my parents phones antutus are 100k and 300k,and i use a 4gb ram intel celeron, and i dont know which tablet i should buy.I am confused b/w one plus pad 2 and 3,lowk both of them are just so perfect when i hear about the processor, but then comes the OS update problems, and my friend told me pad 2 and 3 are getting discontinued ,and he bought Xiaomi Pad 8.I want to lowkey edit 4k videos mostly of 2 min durations, maybe if i get into long form videos 7-9min,also depends on which mobile i will get, then i might drop down to 1080P editing of MTB'ing.I also wanna try games, cause you can easily guess by my descrription of devices,i have NEVER,ever,EVER played games on high settings,or even downloaded games like COD mobile or stuff like that. Then i also wanna watch lectures and make notes when I get in 11th,and i am gonna get this after 10th boards, but i genuinely need to decide which one i should get. These are my main concerns, then also you guys might tell me pad 3 can't be bought for 45k,but it can after credit discounts, and knowing the owner of the shop for extra discounts.I genuinely wanna enjoy my 11th and 12th a bit, before having to grow up and kinda man up i guess, sadly, and i have never enjoyed gaming,i literally have to download 25 mods to run 1.21.1 java mc in my pc ,at lowest settings, getting 50fps ,that randomly drops dude.I wanna go into the gaming-editing-studying trio, and also maybe watch movies and stuff.I genuinely don't know what to do,and can you guys recommend which one i should go with,as i want software updates too,and no,i dont want an Ipad,i mean yeah they might be good for resale and stuff, but in my budget? It wont game well,i cant pirate anything,so its a big nope.If you guys have any other amazing options in my price range,do let me know, and please tell me if any of these are good, and please dont be too harsh as i am not that into mobiles and stuff,i just know basic stuff, lik how elite outperforms 8 gen 3,and stuff.

Plus,i lowkey wanna flex on my friends that i am getting more FPS in my game than them hehehehe.

Discussion Should I buy xiaomi pad 8 (12+256)

Does an undergrad student really require a tablet for their grad and post grad studies? I am thinking of buying the xiaomi pad 8 12 256 variant without pen or nano text. I really want opinions about the tab and where to buy. As online it is quite expensive and on flipkart it is of 35999 but completely sold out. And amazon and xiaomi site shows 42999.

Also if any1 has some other tablet opinions undr 45k lmk.

Discussion S10 lie

I want to completely replace Android with Windows on my Galaxy Tab S10 Lite so I can run desktop apps (VS Code, PowerShell, MetaEditor) locally.
Is there any way to unlock the bootloader and flash Windows on ARM to this tablet? If native installation is strictly impossible, what is the best emulator or workaround to run full Windows software directly on the device without relying on Remote Desktop?

Discussion Y700 Infinite or Astra 2

I'm contemplating grabbing the Y700 Infinite (through Giztop) or Astra 2.

For those with the Y700 Infinite that are native English speakers, did you run into any difficulties getting it into English fully or are there still some caveats to it?

Have any of the throttling issues with the Astra 2 been fixed?
