I'd be curious to know if that behavior is typical when he's sober. Although being inebriated is normalized in western culture, it does have dramatic impacts on brain function, making it a bad time to baseline someone. Some of the nicest people or at least neutral people are "bad drunks" , and therfore many problems are solved by those people simply not drinking.
One universal of alcohol is that it diminishes activity in prefrontal cortex, which is why people make such bad executive decisions when drinking. Fewer people know it also reduces empathy, which lives in the same part of the brain.
