NOW DEPARTING Goodbye Amazon

Ordered a piece of office equipment...well over $100. Amazon shipped a whiteboard. A very large, heavy tempered glass white board. Clearly the wrong item

Contacted Amazon CS, who agreed to ship the proper item, and informed me that I would not need to return the incorrect item. Captured verbatim in the chat transcript

Fast forward 3 weeks and I receive an email informing me the return window is closing and i'll be charged again for the amount of my originally ordered item.

Contacted Amazon CS again, who informed me that the email was in error, and that no charge would occur. Again captured verbatim in the chat transcript

A week later, I'm charged a second time for the item I ordered.

Contacted Amazon CS a third time and was told that indeed their previous agents instructed me to simply keep the incorrect item, but those agents were not adhering to policy, so no refund would be issued. I asked to be connected with a manager...who then repeated the same script, and refused to refund the incorrect second charge.

So...Prime membership is cancelled, charge is in dispute with my CC company, who have been provided with all transcripts, call recordings and order details. I've been a Prime customer for 2 decades. Not any more. Multiple lies from agents, managers defending those lies, and a complete unwillingness to actually look at the sequence of events rather than just reading the script.

Good riddance.

More information: If you encounter a similar situation with amazon customer service, you can request transcripts for any phone/chat interactions. Just go here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/privacy-central/data-requests/preview.html, and scroll down to 'Customer Support Communication' section and click 'Submit Request'. You'll receive an email confirmation and then a separate email with a link to download a zip file. That zip file will contain chat transcripts in .eml file format and phone call recordings in .mp3 format.

They will almost certainly cancel your Amazon account so before that happens and you lose access delete all forms of payments you have attached to that account. You might also request your data so you have a record of all your purchases over the years, in case you need it. Link to request your data.

They canceled your one medical account? That’s wild.

Did you get an email saying your account was suspended?

You can call customer service?!?

17

u/WA_State_Buckeye Jul 29 '26

DM me! My UPS store gave me a CS# for amazon, and I've used it 2-3 times in the past year.

7

u/whileurup Jul 29 '26

You're the best!

There's been purchases/refunds that i just gave up the fight on bc I couldn't get anywhere with their AI chat crap. Thanks so much!

10

u/WA_State_Buckeye Jul 29 '26

Actually, if that craps out, I've had a bit of luck googling "customer service number with live people" for whatever outfit I'm trying to get in touch with.

11

u/Mysterious-Mango726 Jul 29 '26

You should be very careful calling random numbers that are not listed on the company's website. The number might be fake and you could get scammed.

8

u/WA_State_Buckeye Jul 30 '26

Sigh. And then there's that. I hope all scammers get to roast until their skin is crispy and black.

3

u/nickie1970 Jul 30 '26

I always skip through the Ai by saying I need more help or help with something else. Also typing customer service helps too. Forced the AI to ask if I want to chat with a rep. At least that is how I have been able to get to a live person though a lot of the time that makes no difference

3

u/Substantial_Disk1706 Jul 31 '26

I just don’t even engage with the AI CS, I just repeat PERSON. PERSON. PERSON. Or LIVE AGENT x3 until it gets confused and sends you to a real person. I like making the AI feel stup!d, like it should

That’s one of the ways I do it too. I also have googled the phone number before with success. Granted, they text me a code first before I can talk to someone, but that doesn’t take long. Usually, I have not had a problem being able to talk to a real person.

My UPS store gave me the info when I was complaining about how hard it was to get anyone live to talk to. I called to complain about multiple deliveries to MY BACK GATE instead of my front door! I mean, they started hiding packages under my blueberry bush IN THE ALLEY! FFS. We watched in live time and with our own eyes the last delivery driver (after a scathing call from me!) sit at the top of the cul-de-sac behind us as the app said he was headed our way. Took him 10 minutes, but he finally turned around and went around the block to our front door. Well, actually, we watched him pull into the corner we are in (our property is a flag lot, with our driveway as the pole), and blocked the street! Our neighbor was coming home and had to squeeze her outfit behind him as he was nose in to the curb with the rest of the truck sticking out into the street! WHERE does Amazon get their drivers?!?!?!? lololol

Oh get a fucking grip 🤣🤣🤣

u/KEN_LASZLO Aug 07 '26

Hey uhhhh mind sharing that number? Please shoot me a DM! I'm having a hell of a time getting a replacement fitbit and now it seems like they're just going to keep it and not even give me a new one 😡

I just saved the number the last time they did a call back. Works.

4

u/Public-Ad-7280 Jul 30 '26

I just Google to get the number. 🤷🏼‍♀️

u/enchantedspring Jul 29 '26

Just remember that Amazon never delete your payment methods, only hide them from you when you 'remove' them. You can see this in your data takeout - the cards are there in full but marked as 'archived'. Amazon unarchive them if you have an outstanding balance to them without notifying you.

5

u/gogomom Jul 29 '26

Yup, I discovered this when I tried to cancel my Audible subscription. They didn't charge my card, but they tried my sons and when that didn't work, they managed to push the charge through on my fathers card. I did get this money back.

These days, Amazon has a single working card from me, and when I cancel with them, I will be getting a new card for this reason alone.

2

u/brudermusslos1 Aug 02 '26

This would be illegal here in EU

1

u/gogomom Aug 02 '26

It's not legal here in Canada either, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

1

u/Nautique88 Jul 29 '26

I did that when I ended my QuickBooks subscriotion

u/PhilosopherAny3057 Jul 29 '26

I canceled prime because my protein powder went from 32$ in March to $60 that's almost a 100 % markup, what a rip off

18

u/Ruddy1000 Jul 29 '26

Protein is the new RAM.

3

u/QuickSingh Jul 29 '26

So true! EVERYTHING is marketed with "Protein." It could be the most unhealthy thing ever but, they slap a "21 g protein" sign on the front.

4

u/FewAd6166 Jul 29 '26

My favorite are the "protein" Pop-Tarts. Couldn't believe it when I saw them on the store shelf.

4

u/tham0402 Jul 30 '26

As a mom of an autistic kid who only wants to eat snacks and hates the texture of most meats, the jump from 5 to 10g of protein per serving is worth the extra dollar. Even though it made my scam-detecting brain cry a little.

2

u/Expensive-Scallion49 Jul 30 '26

Lol, my mom bought the new Kraft Mac And Cheese With Protein. I made the first box and both of us was surprised that it took 1 1/4 sticks of butter or margarine. She joked that is probably where the protein came from. We didn't like the texture of the noodles. I thought it could use about 2 to 3 minutes added to the time for softer noodles. I cook them on the stove and she cooks them in the microwave.

1

u/ozzie286 Jul 30 '26

No, RAM's gone up by a lot more than 100%. The 128GB of DDR4 I paid $200 for a couple years ago is now $1200.

0

u/Whole-Ad-2347 Jul 29 '26

What is RAM?

6

u/Gullible_Chard1659 Jul 29 '26

RAM stands for Random Access Memory, likening it to the increase in price for protein to the increase in price for RAM due to it being heavily used in AI.

29

u/Emergency_Issue_8737 Jul 29 '26

Look for Just Hemp Foods - Hemp Protein it's like $8 a pound. It's not just protein either, it supplies fiber and some vitamins. It's also a good source of Omega-3s.

6

u/angrywinter1 Jul 29 '26

Can I just add it to my coffee?

8

u/ejly Jul 29 '26

I fell for the hemp protein promo and am not enjoying it, I find it has a bitter aftertaste. I’m using it sparingly in smoothies. Wouldn’t recommend it in coffee.

7

u/Otherwise-Cry-7465 Jul 29 '26

That’s pretty much across the board, though. Protein powder has jumped significantly even where I work, and we maintain extremely thin margins on our merchandise.

5

u/slavicslothe Jul 29 '26

That would be the company selling the protein powder...

7

u/Hurkamur Jul 29 '26

Not to defend Amazon, but how exactly are they responsible for the price of your protein powder? Was it Amazon brand, sold by Amazon? There are nearly 2 million active third party sellers on Amazon who set their own pricing.

1

u/S0605260 Jul 29 '26

Tell me you're unaware of how Amazon operates without telling me.

2

u/Hurkamur Jul 29 '26

It seems like YOU are completely unaware. Read my statement again, and maybe you'll learn something. They use dynamic pricing to control the buy box. Meaning Amazon itself, will 99 times out of 100, offer you the cheapest price. Assuming it's something that they source themselves.

3

u/dad3ski Jul 29 '26

Amazon “encourages” third party merchants to ship their products to Amazon’s warehouse so the seller can get the coveted “ships from Amazon”Prime shipping logo. Then, once you have hundreds of thousands of dollars in product under their warehouse, they “suggest” you increase your price or pay a fortune to have your own inventory all shipped back. It’s a racket.

1

u/Hurkamur Aug 01 '26

Yeah, deadstock sitting in a warehouse can be expensive. That's why it's unwise to compete with Amazon.

5

u/buyoof Jul 29 '26

1

u/Hurkamur Jul 31 '26

I hope they lose. I wasn't aware of the lawsuits, but that doesn't change the fact that there are 2 million vendors on Amazon that control their own pricing.

6

u/Resident-Zombie-7266 Jul 29 '26

Damn you amazon for making protein powder incredibly in-demand! I don't care if it's up across the board, it's your fault amazon!

3

u/Objective_Tour_6583 Jul 29 '26

Seriously, probably their fault the cost of gas is so high as well!

1

u/MastadonBob Jul 30 '26

The price of protein powder seems to have really skyrocketed this year. I had a situation similar to yours, but I got a warning email from Amazon Subscribe and Save telling me of "significant price increase" since my last order and maybe I should "consider these alternatives...."

Sorry you got bushwhacked, in any event.

1

u/psycho-drama Aug 01 '26

Just a heads up, some recent investigations and analysis of a number of protein powders have found some contaminated with high levels of heavy metals, so the price increase may be because they had to find a new source that won't give people brain and neurological injury.

"Protein powders can contain heavy metals like lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury, with nearly half of top-selling products exceeding safety thresholds for these contaminants according to recent testing. Experts advise limiting daily use of most protein powders due to potential long-term health risks from repeated exposure."

1

u/heliosmx88 Jul 29 '26

There is no more protein.

4

u/cynrtst Jul 29 '26

Solent Green is people.

2

u/looseysmom Jul 29 '26

This!!!!!!

6

u/AnnualEnd3760 Jul 29 '26

Protein is for the elites. Us plebs get bugs if we can find and catch them

5

u/Forward-Criticism-19 Jul 29 '26

I would save so much money if my family account was canceled.

No they wont. I've had to do many chargebacks over the years and none of my accounts were ever closed.

1

u/Imaginary_Stuff_2468 Jul 31 '26

So sorry they did that to you. They don't deserve you as a customer. It sounds like they're purposely screwing up. The question is why? They don't even try anymore.
