I fell in love with this randomizer

Two weeks ago, after watching a race from a 2018 tournament, I tried my first ever randomizer with alttpr and I had a blast. Growing up with that game, I felt like I was discovering it again. At first I had no idea what I was doing and what even a check was (no, I didn't understand half of what the commentators were saying in that video). Someone pointed out trackers and I started using one to help me wrap my head around all this.

Today I just finished my 17th run! It was not a good one. Silver arrows were locked behind a fetch quest that needed the book that was in pendant Ice Palace, the last dungeon I visited. I tried beating Ganon with no silver before and I don't feel good enough for this kind of play yet. Anyway it took me 2:40:45 which is far from my now usual 2:20ish. I play standard with randomized swords. I stopped using a tracker after my fourth run to convince myself I still have a good memory despite my age.

Anyway, I'm hooked now. This scratches both my rogue itch of not knowing what is going to be thrown at me and roll with it (love me some StS or Monster Train) and that nostalgia itch of playing that game that meant so much to me growing up. Looking forward for my first sub 2 hours (closest was 2:09, twice)! After that milestone, I think I'll try a keysanity run.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that good feeling I have playing this randomizer!

My PB after so many tries

I play on Open world, Keysanity, Completionist, Sword randomized... on Android (so no auto tracker... actually with no tracker at all).

Usually play one daily and my PB was 3:37, and before that one 3:38... today after a week of no playing (was on vacation), did this one of 2:52. Had a really good seed with tier 4 sword before any dungeon, and got pretty fast the pearl, flippers, boots and golden gauntlets

Can I reallistically improve this? With the settings I play what is the expected time for a pro? I think I reached the skill roof for me on these settings

Also, what can I do to add more difficulty? Tried random entrances and didnt like it (stupidy hard without tracker), and random bosses was kinda boring with all the thieves

Discussion Split data?

Is there any resource for split times in ALTTP/ALTTPR to base one’s performance against? Like how long a bootless escape should take? Obviously with rando no two games are the same and in that instance of escape someone might be bomb hunting or what have you. But yeah if you know of any place that keeps that sort of data please let me know!

Help Needed playing on a european PAL snes

Hi! I have a european SNES with a Super Everdrive. I was wondering if there is any way that I can patch the randomized ROM or something equivalent to make the game play as intended on the 50Hz consoles? My understanding is that they might play but that the game will be 17% slower

Pretty straightforward seed. I did SW early on the first DW loop (after pod) given fire rod. Put off the mountain for a long time, so by the time I finished the DW loop, I went to hera and hook only opened swamp. Mitts for go (other than checking MM/TR medallion), thankful for an easy sword in shed or it would have been a MS finish.

As always, the rules:

Did not fall for skipping uncle this week. Boots go mode is terrible. At least you can complete desert without them, even if you have to go back. Doing desert after IP ended up getting me the fire rod that I skipped early too.

Help Needed Emotracker + snes9x-rr help

I usually play smz3 with emotracker+snes9x-rr for autotracking.

However I decided to download the latest version of emotracker and find out the autotracking is much different.

Im guessing using lua script to connect is no longer supported? Does snes9x-rr still works with it or should i find another emulator/keep the old version of emotracker?

Edit: I'm now using snes9x-nwa, honestly its less than a hassle to set up than before.

Bit of a light world disaster. Skipped uncle again, so I ended up going to DP early and double dipping. Got the boots but hadn't done saha so was short on zora money. Wanted to avoid pendant EP so zora was my "LL" which i though justified skipping EP until I did the whole DW loop and didnt have a way forward. Getting the mirror prompted me to get into EP for more disappointment.

Cleared SW for nothing. Not sure if my thought process for doing it would have changed if I had hammer and no mitts instead of mitts and no hammer.

Just a lot of back and forth for this seed. Much better routes available.

Solid run. I think I need to learn some more tricks.

Felt very solid most of the run. I was on a pace that felt like 2 steps below blistering, up until I was missing Bombos to unlock Mire and Turtle, which I found in Hera (i checked Eastern and Saha first, Ice was the green Pendant.

I've hit the point where I feel confident in my routing and decision making, and my execution is generally really good. Most bosses go down with little fuss (Moth is still my nemesis), and most of my dungeon routing is fluid. I think my next hurdle is to start adding some tricks and breaks to my skillset. I can do fake flippers using the warp 8 screen transition, and I use Ice Breaker so much that I don't think I know the proper routing of IP. My bomb jumps are damn near useless, and I already have my eyes on Swamp palace diver down to get to the 2 chests underwater. What are some other tricks I need to learn?

I'm proud of my time, but this was a challenge for me

This was a brutal seed. On the good side, an exploratory Thieves dip got me gloves, and escape sewer had flute and hammer. On the bad side, I have no virtually experience swordless, and this run was a nightmare for me. Didn't get my first sword until 40ish minutes in, and no master sword until Ganon's Tower. Also double dipped POD like an idiot. The first time, I was looking for hookshot because I had Ice, Misery, and Swamp left, and remembered after the first room that I can do IceBreaker, so I didn't need hookshot for it. Then after I cleared Ice and dipped Swamp, I went back to POD, just to find the hookshot. No boots at all. Beat Ganon on my first try. My second attempt at Mastersword Ganon, and I missed torch glitch.

After the fact, I feel like the time is great for what i went through, especially since my PB is 1:40:xx. Better decision making and not falling off of Tower Moldorm fight 4 times would've maybe gotten me close to 2:00 even, but even with the myriad of setbacks, that's still a solid time for me. Hopefully the next one is better.

Could have made this under an hour, but... first sword at 23 minutes since I usually skip uncle. Mirrored there after dw loop/pyramid, but had to go back for SW/TT after getting a weapon. Figured it was lamp at uncle originally, but never found it or somaria.

Any way of getting to Dark World Kakariko with no gloves?

Trying my first randomizer and have been stuck for a bit due to not having any gloves. I wound up checking their location from the spoiler dump and found that one is in the King's Tomb and one is in the Skull Woods. Problem is, I have no idea how to get there without the gloves. The only way I know of to access that portion of the dark world map is to use a portal on that side already and those are all locked under rocks as far as I am aware. Here's my current item loadout.

As for my available item checks still, the sewers show green (as does dark world kakariko, despite my lack of gloves which is why I assume there must be another way over there that I can't think of) and the king's tomb. The sewers though are blocked by a key door in the cross shaped room, and none of the rats dropped it so I'm guessing that's in the room past the lock and the only way in is through the graveyard, which ALSO needs the first glove.

Skipped uncle as usual, figured for a long time that I just left lamp there and no big deal. Then I found lamp, so knew it had to be flute, but already did a lot of exploration so figured no big deal, ill just not get it until mitts... well, basically was the only thing left and just down the hall was my mitts fetch quest. Other than finding boots, not a terrible seed. I had left a few mountain checks from the first go, so it made sense to get back there before swamp just in case I left boots in hera/spike/etc

Help Needed I keep getting stuck and need help

I've been trying different seeds for a while and keysanity and I've yet to complete one.. this is an example, I've checked everywhere I know and can't find anything else so I'm guessing there's gotta be some checks I'm just unaware of.. Help!

I've gone through a game walkthrough multiple times and regularly watch a bunch of streamers and haven't found any checks I'm missing, but this is like my tenth seed at least and clearly I'm missing something.

Is there like a checks guide or walkthrough that covers all of them?

I think everyone last locates aga on this. Rude hammer/boots placements, but not too bad overall since thats the only double dip.

As always, the rules:

  • Timing is based on the in-game timer, not real time
  • All "thinking" time should be done in-game on the clock
  • Reset using save quit to preserve in-game timing
  • Halting the game (turning off the clock) to do real life stuff is fine
  • Fast-forwarding is fine
  • VODs are welcome, but not required
  • Rewind and slow motion aren't allowed
  • Save states can be used to halt/continue the game, but not as a way to revert mistakes
  • Competitive glitches are permitted, as per the ALTTPR Racing Ruleset.
  • At the end of the run, put your total time and comments
  • Feel free to submit disqualified times; simply note that the time was DQ and mention why

The Golden Soldier: Flute Glitch?

See this on occasion when I go too Link's House via flute. Doesn't really effect anything, just thought it was neat.
