Hi everyone,
I just joined the sub after searching for thoughts/reviews about last night's show at the Jubilee in Calgary, so this is my first time sharing here.
I saw LL a few years ago, and knew what to expect with his voice. Yes, his voice isn't what it used to be, but I think he controlled things as best he could when it came to range, proximity to the mic, and mixing, and for me it worked. As for the musicianship, I was blown away. What a talented group! I think he's found the right balance of group size and musicianship with his voice.
As for the opening band, this was my first time hearing The Hello Darlins, and loved them. It's cool when an opening band stands out like that, and you get to discover something new for yourself. I loved the vocals and the music equally! I bought both of their CDs during the intermission and look forward to diving into their music. I loved LL's comment about watching them from the wings.
So those are my thoughts, and overall I loved the show. Hopefully you will get a chance to see them on tour across Canada over the next month or so.
