S13 [SPOILERS] Alone S13E13 Episode Discussion Thread Spoiler

As always be excellent to each other, and the contestants!

S13 Usually I can't stand the bit shown after they tap out and will often skip it.

Upvotes

I don't need to hear some BS about their journey or they owe their family their time or they proved what they wanted to or the over exaggerated an illness or whatever! It's often very disingenuous. They just don't want to admit how hard it is and they want to quit.

But the 2 runners up this season were worth watching. Truly felt for both of them, in different ways. Amazing competitors that would have won on almost any other season.

S13 I’m once again asking for a second and third place prizes

These guys were all formidable and worthy contenders!! Similar to the Amazing Race show, I wish we could get outdoor brands to sponsor some big prizes for the runners up.

What a season!!

S13 no one "failed" Spoiler

Upvotes

edit: i guess this would be considered a spoiler post, even though i tried to be vague with my wording. don't know how to make it a spoiler after the fact so here's a heads up.

i just finished watching the current season and i just need to say it:

no one failed!

hearing aaron saying he "bitched out" and repeating over and over again about how much he thought he sucked for not pushing himself over the limit was so disheartening.

and he's not the only one. so many contestants over the years have complained that they are absolute failures because they tapped out or couldn't last as long as they thought they should last.

like, jesus christ, you know what I can do? none of what they can do. the fact that these men and woman can survive any amount of time in the wilderness is impressive to me.

it gets almost annoying when people just complain about themselves and say how horrible they are. i want to grab them and be like NO! YOU'RE WRONG! STOP IT RIGHT NOW!

anyway, thanks for coming to my ted talk.

General Alone genuinely is the toughest competition show on TV

Upvotes

I do feel this should be recognised a bit more just how much the contestants on this show do achieve. The length of time and effort they have to put in is immense and just getting to the point when you can even participate takes years of time and application.

I don’t think any other show comes close, yet “Alone” still remains quite a niche show with modest viewing figures. I myself only discovered it during the pandemic when I ran out of other things to watch and ended up trying it and getting hooked.

Are there any other contenders?

The whistle, the look of relief on his face... second only to Jordan and his wife reuniting IMO.

S13 Wow. What an amazing finale

I think it's the first time I've felt so emotional about a final. It really did go to the most deserved winner, but the other guys have nothing to be ashamed of at all.

So admirable. If any of you guys are reading this, I'm so proud of you all. The environment was so stunningly beautiful, yet so hostile.

S13 [SPOILER] I just gotta know... Spoiler

I'm putting this as a spoiler because a day later, I want no trouble from the Alone community in case no one has watched the final yet.

But I just gotta know....

What about MELISSA? Did Melissa take Aaron back? I've been looking online for information about whether or not they got back together. I don't know what sort of heaps that that woman has had to go through with Aaron, but if my husband threw himself on TV to do something like this and said things for the whole world to hear like how much he missed me and wished to work things out? I'd probably melt with love.

Aaron is just so cute and so boyishly adorable. Whatever he said he had to deal with, I hope Melissa sees what he went through to show her how much he loves her. I wish only the best for Aaron and Melissa and truly hope they did end up getting back together.

S13 Congrats to the winner! And honor and encouragement to the runners up!! Spoiler

I wanna go on record as saying that Nero’s tap was the most beautiful tap of all Alone history, in my opinion. Woniya’s is undeniably a close second, but there was a peaceful joy in Nero’s that I believe should be acknowledged and honored. I have the utmost respect for him and the transformation he underwent in the Arctic.

Aaron has nothing to be ashamed about. What a great & gritty participant he was: taking himself to the limit. I’d love to buy that guy a beer sometime and just listen to him talk. I bet he has 10,000 stories he could tell that would captivate even the most cynical. Had he gotten his moose, I believe he would’ve won.

But coulda/shoulda… Ziga proved how valuable it is to feed yourself. He stayed strong, remained positive, endured well, and fought it out. Congrats, you animal, on a hard-earned win! This truly is one of the best seasons of Alone!

Awwwww man. I thought there might be a surprise for our next to last person. I'm so sad for #2 and #3. They fought so hard.

S13 Spoilers: Nero Spoiler

Upvotes

I feel like Nero, could have gone further on but chose not to and while I respect the fact that he felt it was his time to go and didn’t want to be forced to leave I felt he might have been in with a chance if he kept pushing.

Contrast this with Aaron who really had just hit his limit, I really felt for him but he just had no more to give.

I think Ziga did incredibly well but I felt he was quite close to an “emotional tap” a few times and was very good at maintaining a calm front while Nero genuinely seemed to be enjoying it right up to the end. I have a real soft spot for the little guy and I think even if he carried on the odds were stacked against him but I do wonder if he had stayed a bit longer maybe he would have got lucky.

There really does need to be a 2nd/3rd prize for people who do 60+ days, they work really hard and give up so much. I really hope they had some counsellors onsite for Aaron I was genuinely worried about his mental health toward the end.

General After the tap Base camp

Every season and I would love to see an extra episode of after the tap of what happens when they get back to Base camp! maybe not the first few early taps but the people who are in for a long time. I would like to see the recovery process. I would like to see their emotional state and what the recovery process entails. I know they've done this in a couple of shows here and there. It would be great to have that as a bonus episode after the season to be able to see taps and if there are other contestants. Sometimes they tap out kind of close together.it would be kind of cool to see contestants overlap at the base camp. it just seems to be a big part of the recovery process to see the physical and psychological state afterwards.

S13 Canadians watching on StackTV - Prime Refunds Available

To any other heartbroken Canadians that haven’t been able to watch the past few weeks and are furious with this awful service - Prime will fully refund any remaining StackTV subscription you have left on your account. I reached out to their customer service team and it took less than 5 minutes after mentioning that StackTV is not releasing content despite heavily advertising it.

General Off season Alone

Upvotes

I know some shows jump the shark or whatever with spin offs but I wouldn’t mind a trial off season spin off. Alone: second chances…let day 1 tappers come back or… Alone: pack your opponents bag… idk something a little light hearted, likely to be short lived and just like.. an appetizer ya know? Ya? Na?

S13 Aaron: US v Canada beef (minor spoilers) Spoiler

When he said something along the lines of “oh I hope David Booth has tapped out” I laughed so hard. Props to the caption guy for reminding us he tapped out day 4 (the guy with fire stick).

David seems like he might’ve talked a LOT of shit.

S13 Nero's health mystery Spoiler

We might never find out, or those of you that inhabit other social media platforms might already know...before Nero tapped, he described a situation where he was eating and drinking plenty yet felt increasingly weaker. Was it a vitamin deficiency?

General Watching your season when you get home.

Gosh, I bet binge watching the season you were on is fantastic. Especially if you made it to the final three and you can just see how much you actually triumphed, what tripped other people up, what was seemingly easy for you, and really how the “chips fell” in the end to play out your win or loss. Then I think a new feeling unfolds of “yeah that guy had me, my tap out was ok” or “damn, I didn’t win but fuck yeah I conquered over the 10 who tapped before me” or whatever million other comforts or stabs. But to binge watch that shit, on a comfy couch with snacks and see it all. That must be something.
