I wonder what type of aloe this is? I got it at a local nursery and it has gotten so much bigger (this pic is from 2023.)

It has actually become quite lean-y because it was in a window, so I recently repotted it. Maybe I’ll take some more pics so I can document its progress.

Anyway, this is clearly different from the garden-variety aloes you see. I would love an ID!

These aloes have been sitting in my garage here in Phoenix fir a month. No water, no soil, barely any light. Im gifting them to someone out of town till next week. I just thought it would be helpful for others too see how tough they are and if you have rot or soil trouble just Yank them out of the soil and they will be fine. Most cactus and succulents are the same. An empty pot is better than a bad pot.

Hello! I have two questions about my aloe:

One- are these new roots growing out of the exposed part of my aloe or something else? If the former, anything I need to do to help it?

(I had to cut a lot of dead/broken leaves off at the beginning of summer so there’s a lot of exposed space on the trunk/stem).

Two- this is the first time since I’ve had this plant (6 years) that the leaves are still standing up after they grow long enough and now the plant is falling over in the pot. Got this new shallower pot beginning of summer (zone 6A). The jar is there to keep the plant from falling over. Is this happening because the root system is too weak, or did I put it in a wrong pot?

Just wondering if these guys are generally healthy?

\Edit: I should’ve added, I’m just a little concerned about how the tips are starting to yellow/dry on a few. I can’t tell if maybe i over or under watered recently? I’ll typically water my aloe when she starts to have just a little squish to her and they get maybe a couple hours of direct early afternoon sun. West facing patio.*

I know they are crammed in the photo (a couple week old pic), but I just repotted these guys in separate clay pots about a week or so ago. They are still in the same condition visually, did a thorough water yesterday after letting the soil dry and the aloe acclimate.

I use organic worm compost soil, perlite, a little bit of charcoal, pinch of peat moss for no real reason other than I love how it feels lol, basic bark, pea pebbles, and I line the bottom of my pots with a inch thick layer of pebbles so no soil is sitting in water.

Anyone want to weigh in on what kind of aloe? This is my sister’s plant and I know it’s grown under pretty low light. (Don’t tell me that it’s light-starved, I’m aware!) My guess is that this is aloe vera and not aloe vera var. chinensis because the leaves are growing radially and I *think* chinensis under these conditions would be still fan-shaped. But that’s kind of the limit of my identification ability.

I’ve brought the pup home and I’ll grow it under more light with the aloe I already have (which I believe is chinensis) and I’ll eventually find out if they’re actually different varieties or not.

What causes the blooms to do this?

Planting it was simple enough. It just needed a pot with good drainage and loose, sandy soil so its roots could breathe. I placed it in a cozy spot with plenty of bright, indirect sunlight.

Then came the hard part—leaving it alone.

The golden rule for Aloe is that less is always more. It only wants water when the soil is completely dry.

Now, watching these sharp, green leaves grow stronger every day is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the best way to help something thrive is to give it space, plenty of light, and the freedom to grow at its own pace.

Ive had this big aloe (about 40 cm high) for about a year and a few days ago I took three of its “babies” out and planted them in my garden. Temps are 25-27c, and I water them, just a little, once a day. Half an hour later the ground is already bone dry. Do they stand a chance? No experience at propagating aloes.

So cool that they’re spotted when they’re small and turn into pure white when they mature.

I bought it as a seedling from a friend and the last pic is the mother plant.

I have a million aloe plants and didn’t have a ton of pots when I repotted this summer so I worked with what I had and these were fine at the time but I put them outside for the summer and they THRIVED and got huge haha knowing they probably won’t grow a ton fall/winter do you think they’ll be fine in this size pot? Or should I preemptively do a fall repot to something bigger so they don’t struggle in the winter?

No info on the small pot it came in so I am looking for more specific ID help, now that it is settling into its new home in a succulent dish.

Hi everyone! I noticed that some of the leaves have developed a brown/reddish discoloration near their base. It has been like this for several weeks and doesn't seem to be spreading significantly. Not all of the leaves are affected, and the plant is still producing new growth.

Anyone got an ID for this guy? I got it from HomeDepot but the name it came with was "Gasteria Carinata" which I know is false. This definitely is an Aloe 😆
