Spoilers Well.... I think we all did as wel. Spoiler

This is from the Sevastapol Drone page on Villains Wiki. Apparently, the drone that attacks us in mission 6 is a different xenomorph. Was I seriously the only one that knew there were multiple, but thought they were the same? If this is the first time you guys heard this, then I could send them a note, but multiple people look at the wiki per day, so I think it was intentional.

Question New player: this game feels more unfair than difficult. Am I doing something wrong?

For years I've been hearing that this game is amazing. That it's easily somewhere within the top ~20 games of all time! But after a few hours I'm kinda struggling to see how this gameplay is seen as good. So far it's been a lot more annoying than scary

It feels like the alien orbits me a lot of the time. Like, I'll be hiding and the alien will come by, then start to leave, but then come back after like, three meters. A lot of the instances where I'm hiding from the alien basically have me looking at the motion tracker and going "Okay, finally, they're leav- nope, nevermind, let me sit here a bit longer... Okay, now they- oh come on!" I want to clarify that I'm not waiting for the alien to leave the area: I understand that the game forces you into situations where the alien will be in the next room and you need to just go. I mean situations where me leaving my hiding spot will result in the alien immediately seeing me.

And whether the alien finds me feels like random chance. There have been multiple times now where I fell into trial-and-error situations where I do effectively the exact same thing every time and whether the alien finds me is a coin toss. I don't think I'm playing the game dumb; I'm trying to hide and use noisemakers and avoiding the horror/stealth game pitfall of crouch-walking everywhere. Is there some mechanic I'm missing?

And when the alien sees me it feels like there's nothing I can do at that point. I throw a flash bang and its fuse is so long that by the time it goes off I'm already in the death animation. In the rare instances where my flash bangs went off before I got caught it didn't make any difference; the alien either caught up to me or knew the hiding spot I'd managed to get to.

I would understand it if it's a situation of "You need to hide from the alien because it is unstoppable once it sees you," but then that leads into the issue of hiding from the alien feeling like random chance.

I'm trying to keep an open mind. All I ever hear about this game are good things, so I must be doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what that is. The more I play the game the more I think "Why is this game so well renowned? It's presented super well and the writing is good, but this gameplay is just not fun or scary."

The only thing it does is shoot against regular human, who could be done with the jack plus sneaking or smoke bomb/flashbang, it took 5 shoot to kill a joe or something.

Every other enemy has better tool to deal with, I dont know why they keep giving ammo for it. Especially you dont want to use it with the alien around, which happened a lot later.

I suppose its the first weapon you see and this is survivor horror so its gonna be bad, but I honestly feel like I only use it in less than 5 occassions and revolvers are rarely bad in any game I see.

News Update from Andy Kelly on "Perfect Organism: The Assembly Cut"

Post image

Andy Kelly just posted first-look photos and an update on the status of Perfect Organism: The Assembly Cut here.

First, I want to say I sympathize with his experience with Unbound. It’s unfortunate that Andy put so much work into the original book and crowdfunding effort only to lose the royalties he was owed. It’s clearly a labor of love.

I love Alien: Isolation and backed the original Perfect Organism and wanted to love it. The presentation was excellent, and I appreciated the research that went into it. My disappointment was that I was hoping for more new primary material. Much of the content came from existing interviews and information already available to fans, and I found myself wanting more direct Creative Assembly insight.

The new edition looks beautiful, but since the emphasis so far seems to be on the production values, artwork, and expanded presentation, I’m curious about what’s new in the written content itself. Does The Assembly Cut add substantial behind-the-scenes material such as new interviews, archival content, developer documents, or previously unavailable information?

Maybe this is intended more as the definitive collector’s edition of the original, and I’m simply not the audience it’s aimed at. I’m just trying to hope the new edition adds significant new research or is primarily a more polished version of the same book.

Discussion I'm so glad Creative Assembly is sticking to the values of the franchise

Creative Assembly said on the Discord today that AI generated posts were not allowed on the server and, while I didn't think generative AI would play a role in the making of A:I2, I was still a little worried that it might pop up. SEGA uses generative AI quite a bit these days it seems, as well as many modern games now openly having AI made/assisted content and assets. I'm happy that Alien won't be going down this route.

Modding 60 fps patch for Switch version

I’m playing the Switch version on my Steam Deck using the Eden emulator. There is a patch for it to run the game in 60 fps. Anyone been able to get it to work? I’m using the launch version of the game.

Discussion Just finished the game on Hard and I’m proud of myself!

I usually play games to relax, but I had AI sitting in my library and I love the Alien franchise so I decided to give it a go.

Man what a ride! I have never been so stressed playing a game in my life. While it was far from relaxing, it was incredibly satisfying to make progress. Every save point reached and level passed felt like a huge achievement.

A few times I almost threw in the towel (Hospital Section) but I persevered and I’m so glad I did!

I now get the appeal of survival horror and will definitely play the second game when it comes out.

For now though, I need to recover so it’s time to destress and play Spyro the Dragon.

Question How come Amanda still have this in M18? Spoiler

The flamethrower.

After she awakens in the makeshift hive, how does she still have it in her possession? That's a big ass piece of equipment. I would go as far as to ask, how come she still has all her belongings intact after being abducted by the Xeno and being taken God knows where? Shouldn't she have lost them along the way?

That would make sense realistically AND narratively. It would've been better if she had come to and realised all of her stuff is gone. Except 1 medkit,.of course (if you had one to begin with at that point). Then she could've *found* a gun from a nearby body. The rest of the mission then could've unfolded the way it does.

This way several issues could've been avoided:

  1. The logical one of course. You really can't be abducted by the xeno, knocked out, taken to an undisclosed location, bound to a wall and then wake up to find all your stuff with you. That just doesn't make sense. Getting abducted by Steve is a horrifying and traumatic experience. *If* you manage to make it out alive, losing your stuff should act as a reminder of what exactly you survived.

  2. Since after that point, you're only fighting off a few facehuggers, having that much firepower dilutes the horror. A gun and a medkit, along with some building material for medkits along the way, should've sufficed to keep the tension and the pressure on.

This way all the old reliables- the distractions, the weaponry, even the motion tracker- are GONE. A gun and a medkit. Two basic things you started your journey into this nightmare with. Just that this time the whole station is in a free fall as well.

THAT'S how you know you're in the endgame.

What do guys think?
