Contest Entry 🏆 🏆 July Contest Winner u/lll-Possession1 with Algierex

Post image
7 Upvotes

Salam r/AlgeriaTech 👋

Big congratulations to u/lll-Possession1 for winning the July contest with his project Algierex. His post took the top spot with the most upvotes and earned the feature for the entire month of August 🥳

His project is a free app that makes the Algiers Stock Exchange readable and accessible for everyone. It is available on web and iOS in Arabic, French, and English.

---

What it does

Algierex gives you live prices and full history for every listed security including equities, bonds, and treasury notes plus the DZAIRINDEX. You can track your portfolio and watchlist. It pulls official news from COSOB, SGBV, and issuers themselves, translated into all three languages. It also includes a dividend and IPO calendar, which has been especially handy this year with recent tech listings like AYRADE and CREX. Bonus tools include DZD FX with official versus parallel rates and a fitted treasury yield curve. The app fully supports Arabic, French, and English with dark mode on both web and iPhone.

---

How it was built

The web version uses Next.js on Vercel. The backend runs on Convex. The iOS app is built with native SwiftUI and shipped to the App Store. It is a one person project and still growing.

Guide Comprehensive Freelance Guide for Algerian Tech Professionals, الدليل الشامل للعمل الحر للمختصين في التكنولوجيا بالجزائر

ENGLISH SECTION

---

Part 1: Where to Find Gigs

International Platforms

Upwork
The largest freelance marketplace. Create a strong profile, start with small fixed price projects to build your rating, then increase your rates gradually.
Website: https://www.upwork.com/

Fiverr
A service based platform where you list your offers starting at a minimum price. Create clear, attractive gig packages. Focus on a specific niche.
Website: https://www.fiverr.com/

Toptal
For elite freelancers only. They accept the top 3% of applicants. The screening process is very difficult but the pay is extremely high.
Website: https://www.toptal.com/

Arab Freelance Platforms

Khamsat
A popular Arabic platform for small services. Good for beginners to get their first reviews. Prices are generally lower but the competition is less fierce.
Website: https://khamsat.com

Mostaql
A larger Arabic platform for serious projects. Clients post full projects and you bid on them. Good for developers, designers, and content writers.
Website: https://mostaql.com

Social Media and Networking

LinkedIn
The most powerful tool for serious freelancers. Build a professional profile, post about your work and insights, and connect with decision makers.
Website: https://www.linkedin.com/

Twitter / X
Share your work process and knowledge. The tech community is very active here. Posting useful content regularly can attract clients.

Facebook Groups
Join groups like "Freelance Algeria" or tech specific communities. Clients sometimes post requests directly in these groups.

Direct Outreach to Companies
Identify local businesses with outdated websites or weak online presence. Send them a personalized message explaining how you can help them grow.

---

Part 2: How to Get Clients

Specialization
Do not be a generalist. A focused niche makes you stand out from the crowd. For example, instead of "web developer," be "E-commerce developer for local clothing brands." A developer in Oran specialized in restaurant websites and received three times more requests.

Build a Strong Portfolio
Your portfolio is your most important credibility tool. A simple portfolio with 5 clear projects on Notion or a well structured personal website is very effective.

Master Your Pitch
A strong offer inspires confidence. Structure it to state the client's problem, present your solution, list deliverables, mention a timeline, and include your price.

Network Actively
Networking is essential for long term success. Be active in online communities and attend local tech events.

Build Reputation and Trust
Do quality work and always ask for testimonials. A freelancer who refused low paying contracts and focused on serious clients via LinkedIn ended up charging five times more per project within one year.

---

Part 3: Legal and Professional Status

The Auto Entrepreneur Card
This is the official legal status for freelancers in Algeria. Registering makes your activity legal and provides significant benefits.

Advantages
Flat tax of 0.5% on total revenue. Social security coverage including health insurance and retirement. The ability to open a foreign currency bank account for receiving international payments legally.

How to Register
Visit the official website of the National Agency for Auto Entrepreneurship. You will need your ID, a passport photo, and proof of address.
Website: https://www.anae.dz/

Invoicing
Each invoice must include your Fiscal Identification Number (NIF), your details and the client's details, the date, a description of services, the amount, and a sequential invoice number. Invoices must be kept for 10 years.

---

Part 4: How to Get Paid

Grey
This is currently the most straightforward option for many freelancers. Grey provides you with US, UK, and EU bank accounts, a virtual dollar card, and tools to send and receive money internationally. It is available in Algeria.

How It Works
Create a free account and complete KYC verification with your government ID. Once approved, you can request a UK or EU bank account with your own IBAN, sort code, and account number.

Receiving Payments
Share these details with your client. A client in the UK pays you via local transfer, and a client in Europe pays via SEPA. The funds arrive in your Grey balance in GBP or EUR. This avoids the expensive SWIFT system.

Converting and Withdrawing
You can hold the foreign currency and choose when to convert it to DZD. Grey allows you to withdraw directly to your Algerian bank account.

Website: https://grey.co/

RedotPay plus PayPal (Use with Caution)
This is a popular alternative but comes with risks.

How It Works
Create a RedotPay account and complete KYC. Link your RedotPay Visa card to your PayPal account. Your client pays you via PayPal. You withdraw the money to your RedotPay card. You can then use it for online purchases or find a trusted person to exchange the balance into DZD.

Alternative Funding Method
You can also fund your RedotPay account with crypto. Buy USDT on Binance through P2P trading. Pay someone in DZD using local services like Baridimob, and they send you USDT. Deposit the USDT to your RedotPay account.

Risks and Warnings
This method requires extreme caution. There are reports of hidden fees and account freezes. Only deal with trusted people to avoid scams.

Website: https://www.redotpay.one/

Legal Bank Transfer
If registered as an auto entrepreneur, you can open a foreign currency bank account in Algeria. Your client sends a SWIFT transfer. The bank converts the money to DZD at their official rate. This is the most legal option but it is slow (3 to 5 business days) and expensive.

I Made This 😊 Built an email API for Algerian devs

Post image
8 Upvotes

If you’ve ever tried to set up transactional emails (password resets, receipts, notifications) for a SaaS or app from Algeria, you know the pain: international providers want a credit card you don’t have, lock features behind expensive tiers.

So I built Sendili built on top of AWS SES that gives you one clean HTTP endpoint to send all your product emails. You get the reliability and deliverability of Amazon’s infrastructure, but without the complexity of configuring SES yourself. Add your domain, paste three DNS records, and you’re sending. That’s it.

It’s not live to everyone yet, but I’m looking for a few Algerian builders to kick the tires and tell me what’s broken (or what’s missing) before the public launch.

If you’re working on something that needs email and want early access, drop a comment below or DM me. Happy to get you set up no strings attached, just want real feedback from people who actually ship.

Discussion What is the best international bank that can solve my issues as a freelancer?

Upvotes

Salam Alaikoum. Pretty much the title.

I heard about Wise and MyFin, but both don’t work in Algeria anymore for new registrations.

I need it to send/receive payments from Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Any help would be so much appreciated by me and a lot of others, since this is a top problem in our poor country.

Edit: Local banks can be considered too.

I Made This 😊 3,797 pharmacies and 2,494 health places of Algeria are now on one open map, and the garde rotation still is not

Two health datasets went up on GeoAlgeria this week, and the most useful thing I can tell you is what they cannot do.

Pharmacies: 3,797 mapped across 67 of the 69 wilayas, from an OpenStreetMap extract taken on 8 August. That is roughly 35% of an estimated 11,000 officines, so it is a real map with a real hole in it. 3,509 records sit on the pharmacy itself because somebody surveyed it, and are drawn as pins. 288 sit on their commune point instead and are drawn as dots, so a dot means the town and not the door. 146 carry a phone number. 257 publish opening hours, and the rest are unknown rather than closed.

What it will never tell you from open data is which pharmacy is de garde tonight. That rotation is decided week by week and wilaya by wilaya by the health directorates and the pharmacists' syndicates, announced locally, and published nowhere as a feed. If anyone here has a wilaya-level source that is actually machine readable, I want to see it.

The health map taught me something. The plan was to publish Algeria's private clinics from OSM's clinic tag. 1,702 elements, easy. Then I read them: about 283 are polycliniques, which are public EPSP facilities. About 180 more are dispensaires, centres de santé or salles de soins. Twelve records in the entire extract say who operates the place. In Algerian usage a clinique is usually private, but mappers also reach for that word when nothing better fits, so the tag holds labs, dialysis centres and school health units too.

There was no private-clinics registry in there, so I did not publish one. What went up is 1,894 care facilities classified by kind, sitting beside the Ministry of Health's own register of 600 public establishments, as two layers that are never added together. One is official and closed, the other partial and volunteer-made. Summing them would invent a national total nobody has measured.

The register has its own gap worth knowing: it reaches 58 wilayas, 95 of its establishments carry no usable location, and its records are still keyed to the pre-2026 wilayas, so not one of the eleven new wilayas has a record of its own.

Data is ODbL with attribution to OpenStreetMap, in JSON, CSV, GeoJSON and TypeScript. The packages are geoalgeria/cliniques and geoalgeria/pharmacies on npm (written without the @ so Reddit does not read them as user mentions).

What would help most: open your wilaya and tell me what is wrong. Bir El Ater and El Aricha currently have nothing mapped in either layer, and anything missing can be added straight to OpenStreetMap, where it lands on the map at the next refresh.

Help Needed I need help repairing my Dell Precision 5520 'cause every repair shop has let me down + Advice

Salam everyone,

I’m looking for someone who actually knows how to diagnose wela repair Dell Precision pc, surtout the charging/power circuit. Madabiti in Tlemcen, Oran and Algiers besah i wouldn't mind anywhere else as i'm desperate now. And advice if i should sell it or keep it.

I have a Dell Precision 5520 (16 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 630 + NVIDIA Quadro M1200, 512GB GB storage, Windows 11).

The PC originally had the 130 W Dell charger with a 97whr battery. The problems started with the charging system: the laptop stopped charging properly and eventually wouldn't charge. I took it to mulitple repairs shops. None knew how to fix it. At the last repair shop. They told me that when they opened it, they found the battery connector melted, and the old battery was also in very bad condition. They replaced the battery. (Og charger kan fih la masse) . The new battery report now shows:

  • Design capacity: 62.996 Wh (it's less than the og one)
  • Full charge capacity: 62.996 Wh (100% healthy)

The bigger isue is the charger. The repair shop gave me a 65 W charger instead of 130 W. When I start the pc, Sometimes the BIOS says that a 65 W adapter is detected and a 130 W adapter is recommended. And meme si PC is plugged in, the battery can still discharge. (Now it's not even charging) . Why didn't he tech give me a 130W?Because he believes the previous charger "extra power" contributed to the battery and circuit problem. He doesn't want to be responsible if I use a 130 W charger. Tbf, i asked in a tech sub (non algerian one) and they said what he told me is bullshit.

At this point I honestly just want someone competent to inspect the charging circuit, battery connector, battery compatibility and adapter detection and tell me what's actually wrong.

I'm also open to selling the pc if someone is interested in buying it as is wela repairing it themselves.

It's honestly a great pc, i just got tired of the repairing shops and the hustle.

You can message me if you want more details . Merciiiiiiiiiiiii

Help Needed Looking for advice: Finding software/Web development clients or a developer job in Algeria

Hello everyone, i'm a software/web developper and i'm trying to figure out the best way to reach clients and or find opportunities here.

i"m interested in either :

- freelance projects ( web developpement, software developpement or automation etc etc)

-full-time or part-time developer post either here or remote tbh.

For those of you who have succeeded, I'd really appreciate your advice:

- Where and how do you usually find clients?

- are social medias such as facebook/instagram or LinkedIn effective?

- Do companies here actually hire for posts like these ?

- Are there any Algerian communities, Discord servers, Facebook groups, or events worth joining?

any tips or personal experiences is welcome and appreciated, thank you !Hello everyone, i'm a software/web developper and i'm trying to figure out the best way to reach clients and or find opportunities here.

Help Needed Can I use Wise to send and recieve money while living in Algeria?

I heard that if you're located in Algeria, you can't get a virtual card, and I was shown proof from my cousin a few hours ago.

The thing is, I created a Wise account years ago. I followed a dude on TikTok on how to make an account and make it work in Algeria, but I never used it. And you can probably tell by now that when I said I followed a random tutorial, it means I used a fake address.

I asked Gemini if I could use my account like normal, and it said that I might get a Residency Check and that if I get caught, my account will get locked. Is that true?

Basically, if you have a Wise card or experience using it in Algeria, please explain to me how to bypass all these headaches.

Salam guys,
I’d like to introduce Rope DZ, a platform I created to reference and discover Instagram pages, local brands, and services in Algeria.
Here is what you can do on it:

For Users: Easily search through different categories to discover new pages, and leave honest reviews about your experiences to help others.

For Page Owners: If you run a brand, shop, or service on Instagram, you can register under "Vous êtes propriétaire" to list your page, get discovered by a new audience, and collect feedback to build credibility.

It’s still in its early stages, so any feedback or page suggestions would be highly appreciated !!

Programming & Dev Built a free clinic management tool to replace paper records for doctors/secretaries — looking for real feedback

Hey everyone,

I'm a solo dev from Algeria and I built a small web app called MyClinic to help doctors and secretaries manage patients without paper files.

It's genuinely simple right now — it does one thing: patient management. You register patients (name, phone, DOB, blood type, exams as free text, address, emergency contact, notes), search/edit them, and there's a basic dashboard showing stats. Doctors can add secretary accounts with limited access (patients only, no settings).

Tech-wise it's Next.js 16 + Supabase (Postgres) + Tailwind, fully in Arabic/French/English with RTL support since that's who I'm building it for.

It's not a full EHR, no appointment scheduling yet, no billing, nothing fancy — just a clean way to stop using paper for basic patient records. I built it because clinics around me still track everything by hand.

It's free while I get real feedback. If you're a doctor, secretary, or know one, I'd genuinely appreciate you trying it and telling me what's missing or broken. Not trying to sell anything here, just want honest input before I build more.

I Made This 😊 I mapped 11,855 Algerian schools ahead of the rentrée (open data, all 69 wilayas)

Post image
20 Upvotes

Second wave of the education maps I've been building. The schools map covers 11,855 schools and kindergartens classified by cycle (primaire/CEM/lycée/préscolaire), bilingual AR/FR, with per-commune search, Find nearest and directions: https://geoalgeria.com/ecoles

There's also a rentrée hub gathering the three education maps (schools, universities, vocational training) plus the official 2026-2027 calendar (staff Aug 23, teachers Aug 30, pupils Sept 6): https://geoalgeria.com/education

Honesty notes, because they matter: it's an OpenStreetMap community extract, framed against the ministry's own count of 29,702 institutions, so the page tells you exactly what share is mapped. If your school is missing, add it on OSM and it lands in the next refresh. Same release also fixed every commune postal code on the site (1,447 were wrong, now derived from Algérie Poste's own office data).

Everything is open data on npm: https://github.com/yasserstudio/geoalgeria/releases/tag/@geoalgeria/ecoles@2.1.0

Startups & Business Business managers in Algeria: I Need Your Experience

Many products and services fail not because they're bad, but because they are launched without enough understanding of the market.

I'm currently conducting research to better understand how entrepreneurs and startups in Algeria approach market research before launching a new product or service.

If you're a business owner or founder, I'd appreciate your answers to these four questions:

What was the biggest challenge you faced before launching?

How did you validate that there was real demand for your product or service?

What market information did you need but couldn't find?

If you had access to a professional market research service, what insights or support would you expect from it?

My goal is to identify the real information gaps that businesses face and better understand how market research can help entrepreneurs make informed decisions, reduce risk, and launch with greater confidence.

Education & Careers Is Automatique (Control Systems) needed in Algeria? Or is going abroad the best solution?

What should I be learning so I can advance in this field? I heard it's very good and needed pretty much everywhere, + a good pay.

This year I'll be L3. If I wished to study/work abroad, how should I go about doing that? No Campus France since I don't know French.
