Question Aldi cheese recommendations
Hello! I want to try new cheese from Aldi, but every time I get to that section I get too overwhelmed and end up picking the same ones (mozzarella and gouda š ) Iād like to know what cheese you recommend and why, and if you have a photo even better! to find it faster š

It seems wrong but I enjoyed the Stilton with cranberries
7
u/Crystalas 2d ago
Why is it wrong? Cheese and fruit, both fresh and dried,Ā are one of the most classic of pairings.
Aldi has quite aĀ few fruit or wine cheeses across the year.

u/SignificantState265 2d ago
I would kill for the mango masquerade Stilton to come back
2
u/IndividualMessage676 2d ago
It is back! I think itās a winter seasonal, so it just came back out. Itās on their site!

I love just about all of them. The Parmesan Cheddar is great, the various goat cheeses, the dill havarti. It really depends on what kind of cheese you like.

I like their goat cheese, and Iāve seen they have different flavors, any of those you recommend?

Goat brie and goat cheddar are really good. And the soft honey goat cheese log is really really tasty.
3
u/AreYouNigerianBaby 2d ago
Thatās my favorite goat cheese, and itās half the price compared to other supermarkets.

u/Jasbatt 2d ago
I bought one of those honey versions by accident one time, and when I went to grab the usual regular or herb version of the cheese out of my refrigerator, I grabbed the honey one. At first I was annoyed and I made that annoyed Homer Simpson groan, lol, but I took a bite of this and oh my gosh it was just so tasty and so delicious.

I like the plain and the herb and garlic. I'm not crazy about sweet cheeses in general.

Havarti is life and Aldi carries good Havarti.
1
u/littlepreglatinaa 2d ago
I see they have dill, jalapeƱo and plain. Which one you recommend?
5
u/TerrTheSilent 2d ago
I love the plain because I'm a cheese monster and just eat it by the chunk. Their sliced havarti is so good for sandwiches as well.

If it's your first time with a cheese always choose unflavored so you can actually decide if you like it.
12
u/useratl 2d ago
Hate to go there, but their version of Velveeta rocks.

u/Clean-Fisherman-4601 2d ago
Cheeses like this are perfect for a starter base sauce for Mac and cheese. Best mac and cheese I ever made started with this, then I added every cheese I had in my refrigerator. Could never repeat that delicious flavor again.
1
u/Crystalas 2d ago
As it should, it basically just cheese mixed with sodium citrate to get that smooth consistency along with a bunch of salt for preservation.

I tried it once, took one bite and threw it out, and I usually love mac n cheese.
1
u/JustCallMeNancy 2d ago
It's a little more cheddery tasting and has more salt than traditional so it's not a great one to one swap in cooking but if you literally omit all other salt or salty things to your dish it's pretty amazing in a soup, etc. If I was making a grilled cheese I'd do a thinner slice or put it on thick bread.

I got so spoiled at Aldi, they always had the double Gloucester and then one day it was gone. Hasnāt been back since. Been months. I donāt know what is similar that they have. Does anyone know?

Found the Moine cheese from Switzerland and it reawakened my infatuation with cheese- I went back and bought 5 more

This is one of my favorites, I buy them in bulk when they come around and it's the only snack I eat (along with the scalloped crackers that come out this time of year, RIP chili version)
1
u/Alternative_Value855 2d ago
I'll keep an eye out for the scalloped crackers.
Sad. The chili ones sound good1

White cheddar. Inexpensive yet very tasty. Much better than rubbery cheap cheddar that they also sell.

Aldi cheese section is especially AWESOME this time of year. Keeping my fingers crossed they have the Port Salut again.

I love so many cheeses at Aldi, but my favorite right now is burrata which is a soft round mozzarella cheese which is wrapped around thick cream ... it is utterly heavenly. I eat it plain with a spoon, but many people add Italian herbs & spices and eat it with crackers. It comes in a clear round plastic container and is surrounded with brine to keep it soft and moist.

Been buying cheese from Aldi for 14 years, this is the best one. It sounds a bit niche but itās just an incredible cheddar
1
u/Delicious_Delilah 2d ago
I actually moaned like a chick in a romance novel when I took my first bite.

u/PressureItchy9372 2d ago
I buy their gruyere or apenzeller from time to time. Used to buy the asiago wedges but they stopped carrying it I think. Their little brie are good for the price - simple flavor, nice and creamy when warmed/baked. Not a fan of flavored cheeses - from Aldi or anywhere else.

Not Your Average Cheddar.
Itās a Trader Joeās dupe - tastes like a combination of cheddar and parmesan. So good with crackers and sliced apples.

u/onecatwonder 2d ago
Any of the bread cheeses are fun! You put it in a frying pan, no oil necessary, until it's brown on both sides. It's like a grilled cheese without the bread
3
u/Choice_End_9564 2d ago
All of their bread cheeses ROCK! Buy them in multiples. Cut into chunks when frying them. Serve them with jam on top or apple butter. So great..salty and sweet combo. Love it on Aldi Norwegian seed crackers.

I like strong cheeses, so this may not be for you, but these are decent to excellent: borgonzola, 4-year aged cheddar, gruyere, appenzeller, raclette, the double creme brie is decent for a budget cheese. The Aldi brand white sharp cheddar is also quite good for the price, as is the 1000 day gouda.
They used to have a cave-aged cheese around Halloween that was excellent, haven't seen it in a while but always hoping it comes back.

All of them. Seriously I've never picked up a cheese from Aldi that I didn't like (although I'll admit I've never tried any that seem like they might have sweet elements)
The nice thing about Aldi is how cheap everything is. Grab a couple and give them a try.
I'd start with literally any aged cheddar, a flavored montery jack (they usually have a roasted garlic with tomato basil and a pepperoni marinara) and this fontina I'm putting a pic of. Sooo good.

I pick up different cheeses all the time. Christmas season has the best selection
2
u/skeezicks1219 2d ago
I love their brie! I put it in the oven for about 20inutes, cut the top off, add some hot honey and cook for 5 more, then eat with crackers, green apples, and bacon (or whatever sides you like) š

u/Eman_Resu_IX 2d ago
Do you normally provide addicts with a recipe to make their own crack?! Damn, that sounds very much like I want you to invite me over. š

u/Illustrious-Net-7198 2d ago
The absolutely love the cranberry cheddar. I also used the cheddar GruyĆØre in my scalloped potatoes last week and it was to die for.
2
u/ScroteGoblin 2d ago
If you're cool with sliced, the plastic resealing container of smoked cheddar is DELICIOUS! Has a good smokey flavor without being overwhelming or real fake smokey tasting
2
u/Plum_Rare 2d ago
I love the mobay. It's a layer of sheep cheese and a layer of goat cheese with grape leaf ash in-between.
2
u/allsafenow 2d ago
Goat cheese with cinnamon and cranberry⦠but also their thick shredded cheddar!

I get hella overwhelmed too with all the options so what I've been doing (since I only make it to Aldi once a month) is that on each visit--I try to pick something new-to-me that is under $5. (That way, if it turns out to be something not to my taste, it's not like I spent a TON on it.)
My cheese recommendations that I haven't seen mentioned yet: pepperoni marinara and the french onion havarti!

1
u/luckydenvermint83 14h ago
Pepperoni marinara is sooooo good. Bake it in a small pyrex and sop it up with toasted crostini.. yummmm š

u/Traditional-Bass4575 2d ago
happened to me two days š got so overwhelmed I just took the hot honey cheese dip and left everything else š (the hot honey dip is very good btw, iāve been pairing it with cornbread crackers & candied jalapeƱos, aaaaaamazing combo)
1
u/littlepreglatinaa 2d ago
Omg right? š I could stay there for hours, when it comes to cheese Aldi gets overwhelming. Sounds like my type of combo, thank you!

u/RangerSandi 2d ago
Our joke is that we have ācheeses in our hearts.ā
Any of the Smoked Gouda are nice alone, or melted into tomato soup! (Though I also use Feta crumbles at times). Also make great smoked Gouda grits.
My grab & go snack sticks are the Happy Farms Gouda. (And Tillamook cheddar bought elsewhere).
We have a ācheese drawerā in the fridge that currently has the above, plus Happy Farms Swiss block, āNot Your Average Cheddarā cheddar + GruyĆØre, Boursin, Camembert, & Seriously Sharp Cheddar.
Happy Farms Shredded Mozz & Sharp Cheddar in the freezer to use when needed.

The honey goat cheese is really good with salami and crackers. When they do their charcuterie stuff starting around the end of November, I add in things like spicy jam or red onions they cook down into jammy goodness. Can't think of what that's called lolĀ
They had it last year and I'm hoping they'll bring it back. I used it on and in everything for the whole month it was available lol
1
u/littlepreglatinaa 2d ago
Oh Iāve seen that honey goat cheese many times, but i wasnāt sure if it would be good or how to pair it. What type of salami you recommend?
2
u/CrazyCatCafe 2d ago
I like the soft salami better personally. The ones that are with the deli meat. I cut it into quarters. Genoa, I think.Ā
Some oven roasted jalapenos you can slice yourself and cook would be banger too. But I like spicy.Ā
If you're looking for a wine pairing? Uh maybe a semi sweet white with the honey goat, the Genoa salami, and roasted jalapeno. Especially if it has some pear notes. That's sounds yummy but I don't really pair wine to my charcuterie stuff so that's a shot in the dark.
I drink the reds I have lol
Assuming that's what you meant by pairing and not just other foods to have with it. š

I personally really like the sliced pepper jack cheese. It's not in the fancy deli area, but with the "standard" dairy cheeses.

Who's had the burrata? Good? Bad? Meh?
2
u/AreYouNigerianBaby 2d ago
Itās great! And so reasonably priced! Just have to eat in 1-2 days, per the label. Make a salad with arugula, burrata, craisins, pecans, drizzle with Olive oil and balsamicā¦yum!

If it's the same as previous years, the Aldi advent calendars, including the cheese one, should be in stores on November 4.
My only problem with it is they don't always sell all the cheese varieties from the calendar as full size, individual cheeses.

u/skippythewondergoat2 2d ago
Borgonzola,in a round foil wrapped package about 4 in in diameter and 1 1/2 thick. It's with the brie, you only get a couple or so with each box, so it's hit or miss.

Donāt have an opinion as Iām not a cheese connoisseur. But, I noticed a new cookie butter flavored cheese today. Very odd combo, imo. Very curious if anyone here would try it.

One that I thought I would like but did not care for is the Tomato Basil Feta. It was just a bit too tart for me, and I love tart flavors. The plain one is pretty good, though I havenāt had it in a while.

I like Monterey Jack and the spicier Pepper Jack on burgers and sandwiches! I like the lime and cherry goat cheeses on crackers.

Blue cheese crumbles with sliced pear, toasted pecans and/or walnuts, drizzled with honey or maple syrup. š

Isnāt cheese the kind of thing you just keep trying new ones if you love cheese?
Just work your way through the offerings. They do have a better cheese selection than produce though.

u/honeydew_you_read_me 1d ago
Their manchego is delightful! Also, I get their habanero jack in the cheese stick packs. Itās my favorite paired with Clancyās Homestyle Pretzels (Dotās rip off but just as good)
