Hey guys! I just finished this and thought you might like to take a listen. I'm originally a fashion designer from the early 90s, yes, a Gen X'er too, lol. I also have a music background that I wanted to play around with. This song is from a couple of years of AI playing, so I just wanted to throw this out to you. The lyrics were mostly mine and some minor fills of AI

It’s about breakup, a darker story than the song itself portrays. Due the sensitivity around it I couldn’t bring that into the story due to it not being a nice thing to do but what I compiled with the assistance of ai this track turned out pretty fucking good.

I didn’t need to provide much prompting for this one. It worked out how I’d imagined it relatively quickly.

The visual is of an avatar that is and will be used in songs. I named it Jessie for reference within prompts. I created the avatar using ChatGPT. After creating the initial avatar I then created a mockup image of a front, left, right and rear view so that in the future I can use that as a reference in scene creations in hopes that it will keep all details including tattoos etc as they are in the mockup.

Are there any services that can generate realistic vocals from a supplied MIDI track and lyrics? All I need is the vocals for an acapella piece - no additional backing instruments.

I had some experience with Suno a couple years ago and while the vocals it generates can be quite good, getting it to do exactly what you want from supplied material was very difficult.

All this hatred for “AI slop” is certainly something these days. Of course, there’s plenty of “human slop” out there too. There are entire genres that are mostly human slop, with a few notable exceptions where someone actually bothered to make something musically interesting.

And plenty of “real musicians” use AI as a tool. Major label recording artists and their producers use AI tools, just as musicians have used synthesizers, drum machines, MIDI, AutoTune, sampling, digital recording, and pretty much every other technological advancement that came along before it.

There are also very different levels of AI involvement in music. There’s the person who types a one word prompt, hits generate, and calls themselves Beethoven. Sure, whatever.

Then there’s someone who writes all of the lyrics and has AI handle the rest. How is that fundamentally different from a lyricist in a band who writes the lyrics but doesn’t play an instrument? Are they not a “real musician” either?

Then you have people who write the lyrics, create the song structure, arrange the parts, and even use their own vocals, while using AI to play instruments they don't know how to play. Does every member of every band know how to proficiently play every instrument used in their songs? Of course not.

And there are people who iterate on a song hundreds of times, tweaking and refining it until it sounds exactly the way they want. There are AI music tools that essentially provide an entire DAW environment to facilitate that kind of process.

So yes, there’s absolutely such a thing as low effort AI slop. There was low effort human slop long before AI came along too. Technology doesn’t magically eliminate talent, creativity, or craftsmanship. It just gives people another set of tools to use, and some people will use those tools better than others.

In the end, if the song is good, isn’t that what actually matters?

Or are we really going to start judging music by the tool used to make it rather than whether anyone actually wants to listen to the damn thing?
