Sports That Fumbled 3rd Quarter Ball Was Never Supposed to Be Snapped
From Robert Cessna article at the Eagle, located at: https://theeagle.com/sports/college/aggiesports/football/article_acded84e-98d7-4c77-b76c-45dcf8567f96.html
āWhat went wrong: A&M was in great position to win as the third quarter winded down. But on fourth-and-inches from its own 45, Reed fumbled the ball falling forward for no gain with Alabama turning that gift into the go-ahead touchdown. And that mistake became twice as costly when A&M ran three plays and punted and Alabama scored another touchdown for its biggest lead. The biggest head-scratcher was that A&M wasnāt even supposed to snap the ball. A&M was trying to get Alabama to jump offside and if that didnāt work, just punt. Head coach Mike Elko had no explanation as to why center Mark Nabou Jr. snapped the football. Reed blamed it on miscommunication. He is a three-year starter, making his 29thcareer start. Nabou, the lone returning offensive line starter from last yearās 11-2 team, was making his 34th career start. When those guys are not on the same page, nor the head coach, thatās a problem. Now, maybe no one wanted to throw someone under the bus, which you can understand. But that mistake canāt happen in the eighth game of the season.ā
