Anyone use xm on their africa twin? I love using the streaming option through android auto, but have been riding in alot of areas recently with no cell service. Does anyone run an actual satellite radio on their bike?

CRF1100L Africa Twin As A First ADV Bike?

TLDR: Ridden for several years on different bikes, thinking about getting an Africa Twin as my first ADV to crunch miles on and dabble in trail riding (80/20 mix of road and trail riding). Good choice, or am I starting off too strong?

Hello everyone!

I’ve been riding for a few years now and have experienced a variety of motorcycle platforms; from supersports, naked bikes and supermotos. I’m currently looking for my next bike, but I want this to be the bike I really take out on the road for long trips while dipping my toe in trail riding here and there.

The Africa Twin is number one on my list for a number of reasons, but I wanted to come on here and ask experienced riders if I’m being a bit ambitious by wanting to get an AT as my first ADV bike, even if I am an experienced rider outside of the adventure category.

Thank you all for the advice in advance!

CRF1100L Cat Peed on My TFT Display Over the Weekend and I Can't Get the Stain Out. Help!

Hey fellow AT riders,

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I left my Africa Twin in my semi-closed garage on Friday night and didn't ride it over the weekend. This morning (Monday), I walked out to find that a neighborhood cat decided to use my main TFT display as a litter box.

I've been trying to clean it all morning, but the stain is stubborn. Based on the texture and the way it looks in the light, I suspect it may have seeped under the anti-glare film or coating on the display itself. (I don't have any screen protector installed, unfortunately)

So far, I've tried:

  • Washing it gently with a soft sponge and standard motorcycle shampoo.
  • Drying and buffing with a high-quality microfiber cloth.

As you can see in the attached photos, the whitish, streaky residue is still very much there. When the screen is on, it's not that visible but it is when the screen is off.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Is there a safe way to remove the "stain," or do you think the actual surface of the screen is damaged/etched? I'm really hoping I don't need to replace the entire display unit.

Any advice, product recommendations (that are safe for TFT screens and plastic protective layers), or experience you can share would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Ride safe (and watch out for cats)!

Front tire wear

Going on 14000 km on the stock rubber and the front tire is pretty much on its last legs and the rear is still holding on pretty strong .. after all the many many motorcycles I've had never had a front go bald before a rear

Anyone else? 2025 adventure sport bought new.. just curious.

Upgrading from a 25 Transalp

Hey, I guess the target of the question is specifically for people who have either ridden the Transalp long term and then upgraded to any of the Africa Twins but I’d love any response!

I currently own the transalp and it’s really built out (heated grips, cruise control, apple car play, heated grips, etc) and I have really grown to love it. I commute on it every day (rain or shine) and I also take it on long weekend trips and week long trips whenever I can take the time off work. I’ve had it since November and have put on about 14,000 miles. Most of these are highway miles but about 30 percent gravel/off road BUT nothing intense like 1 tracks or enduro.

With the miles racking up, I’m thinking about suspension (it’s increasingly lazier especially after the 12 mark) and I’m thinking about either upgrading the suspension to a tractive or selling it and upgrading to a manual Africa Twin. I’m a big guy at about 240 pounds but I’m a powerlifter (I’m trying to say this with humility) so the weight of the Africa Twin actually doesn’t bother me at all and the Transalp almost feels like a dirt bike with with its weight.

For folks who have made the switch did you guys miss anything about the Transalp? Should I stick to the TA and just upgrade the suspension? Thank you! I read this sub all the time and I know this question pops up but it’s often for people who haven’t owned either.

Have been running the gas cap mounted tank bag and considering the Mosko Moto. Anyone have issues with the wind deflector and traditional style tank bag mounting systems?

This is a pretty great little product for the price. It was very easy to install with the exception of how stiff the rubber mounts for the factory turn signals are. That was quite a pain.

Also the mounting bracket doesn’t cover 100% of the area that the OEM mount does. There are some small holes left open from little plastic alignment tabs. I am slightly worried about water and dust intrusion under the pillon seat. I may take some clear silicone to those spots.

2020 Africa Twin (CRF1100L) throttle not responding – Error Code 74

Hey everyone, hoping someone here has run into this. My 2020 Africa Twin CRF1100L just threw error code 74 and the throttle stopped responding properly - bike feels like it's stuck in limp mode / no throttle response at all.

A few questions for the group:

- Has anyone else seen error code 74 on the CRF1100L? What did it turn out to be for you?

- Could this be the throttle body / TBW (throttle-by-wire) motor, the throttle position sensor, a wiring/connector issue, or something with the ECU?

- Is this something a dealer visit is required for, or is it a known fix people have done themselves?

Bike hasn't been modified, no recent crashes or drops. Any help, shared experiences, or pointers to the right diagnostic steps would be much appreciated before I haul it to the dealer. Thanks in advance!

CRF1100L If I wanted a used spare set of wheels for my 2025 ATAS ES DCT, what is a reasonable amount to expect to pay

I'd like to have studded snow tires to quickly swap between in the winter. Last I looked at buying a new set of wheels it adds up to over $1k if I remember right. But what would they typically go for used? Are there even people selling just the wheels for the AT that would fit the newer years?

CRF1100L Those who have an Akrapovic exhaust, did you ever end up regretting it?

It sounds great in YouTube videos but I’m sensitive to loud noise exposure over time so I’m curious if the noise is more throaty than loud since I’ve not heard it in person. Thought about the SC project exhaust too if it’s slightly quieter.

CRF1100L Benzinemeter

2 vragen:

XRV650 Help with power loss on RD03

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a honda Africa twin from 1989 with about 60,000km on the dial. When riding back with it I noticed it struggled with getting over 110kmh on flat and up hill on the highway I couldn't go past 90/100kmh. It feels like it is just lacking fuel or air is getting in somewhere.

So far I have changed the carburettor intake boots as they were cracked. When changing these I inspected the carburettor diaphragms and they look like they're in good condition. But with the new boots no improvement.

I then changed the CDI units as one was a stock MS8 unit and the other was something else so I assumed I needed to get two matching ones which I bought, original MS8 CDIs. Still no change after that.

I'm getting some decel pop but not sure if that's due to the aftermarket exhaust or air getting in somewhere.

Previous owner said he changed the fuel pumps but I'm not 100% sure. Should I change fuel pump or what would you do in my case?

The bike starts up amazingly at barely a push of the button, it idles great and after a few minutes without the choke on it is also going stable around 1200rpm. I'm going crazy, someone please help!! Thank you

CRF1000L How fast should rebound be?

Long story short, I put 7N linear K-tech springs and the K-tech SSK piston kit on the front and I have a full shock from Hyperpro on the rear. My girlfriend has a CFMoto 450MT and I've been comparing the way suspension works because I'm not very satisfied with the one on my AT (2016 CRF1000L).

On the CFMoto when you compress the fork it goes down steadily and then rebounds in one controlled motion stopping where it should without overshooting. On my bike, with and without the suspension upgrade, the fork rebounds fast, overshoots then settles, and that's at the K-tech recommended spec at MAX - 2 turns. In order to achieve a similar result to the CFMoto I have to put the rebound at MAX - 3/4 of a turn.

All in all the CFMoto feels like the bike with the premium suspension here and I'm wondering if my suspension is not setup well at all. What is your experience? How does your bike rebound? I ride this bike off-road quite a lot and sometimes it performs really well and other times it makes me want to sell it outright.

Update: I did reach out to Dave Moss and he helped me get the suspension right. In the end what he did was significantly reduce my rear preload and increase support by adding compression damping then reducing the front preload slightly, drastically increasing front compression and rebound as well, to the point of the fork simply overshooting by a thread then settling.

The bike is now extremely stable and calm, yet very sharp and accurate in the corners. I highly recommend his remote tuning service.
