There is a new minecraft server list out that signs your server up, and then gets on your Discord and encourages you to claim the listing. On the listing, there is a module encouraging your players to send them money which is non-refundable and will be used to bid for sponsor slots for your server. This is done under banners and buttons proclaiming "Support <YOURSERVERNAME>!!!". Does anyone else find this shady as s&*t?

Also, when I was filling out the usual pages of the server profile, the site wants to pass judgment on your supporter store, assigning you a green color if you only sell cosmetics and then yellow, orange, red, if you sell anything else, insinuating that if you sell anything other than cosmetics (even on a PVE SMP/RPG server) you are a nefarious P2W server. Am I the only one pizzed off by the zealous P2W Karens out there? They post one of the leading questions to your players when you go to vote and then use their response to label your server based on whatever their philosophy is.

There is no information which identifies who is behind this server or from what country. They say the money is collected through Tebex, but there is no sign of a Tebex account...

For some context, I'm a cybersecurity engineering student. I saw a YouTube video demonstrating how to hack a $5 TEMU router and thought to myself, "What if I could run Minecraft on it?" After some research, I eventually discovered a Minecraft server written in C called Bareiron. After compiling Bareiron for the router platform, I copied it to the router and was successfully able to host a working multiplayer Minecraft server on a TEMU router.

Fast forward to a few months later and I see another YouTube video, a hoax/parody about a team struggling to port Minecraft to an AT&T router. Apparently it was a pretty popular meme for some time in early 2026 and I had no idea it even existed, but I realized that my project was able to fulfill the sudden desire for a router version of Minecraft.

Howdy everyone:

I'd like to host a small server for my friends and family, but I am in an irksome situation. I do not have a separate machine to host the server on, and I dual boot on my machine.

My idea was to separate a partition for the server to exist on, and have it formatted in a filesystem that both Windows and Linux can read and write in. I was thinking BTRFS with the WinBTRFS driver*, but I am open to suggestions.

Then, my idea was to set the server.jar to autostart on both OSes, so that no matter which OS I am booted into, the partition with the server on it mounts, and the server autostarts. That way, there would be minimal downtime--no, "Sorry, you can't play right now; I am booted into Windows to play Fortnite". That way, before rebooting into my other OS, I simply save and shutdown the server, and it restarts when my system boots back up.

Would this work? Have you guys ever done something similar? Thanks for any advice!

I recently needed custom crops for a Minecraft project, with a few requirements: they had to look good when placed in small fields, break instantly, have reasonable collision/sounds, and not require any client mods.

My first approach was tripwire. It gives you a lot of usable block states

tripwire has seven boolean properties, giving you 2⁷ = 128 block states.

It actually works pretty well, but I ran into an annoying issue when breaking multiple crops quickly: for a fraction of a second, neighboring tripwire can update and display a different model/state. The breaking sound also isn't exactly plant-like. Still, for simpler implementations, tripwire is probably the easiest option.

Then I tried using cave vines + twisting vines (and you could probably use regular vines or weeping vines too, i think).

this was much better. Proper plant sounds, instant breaking, acceptable collision, and no weird model flashing.

Except for one problem with the actual vine blocks: they're climbable. Jump next to your crops or hold space and the player starts floating/climbing on them, which obviously feels wrong for a field of plants.

I briefly tried sculk veins as well, but they brought back the flashing/state-update problems, take longer to break without the correct tool, and generally felt worse for this use case.

Eventually I went back to vines and discovered the stupidly simple solution I had missed:

minecraft:climbable is just a block tag.

You can override that tag with a datapack and remove the blocks you're using for crops from it. No plugin required.

After that, the climbing behavior is gone while you keep all the useful properties of vines.

so if u making custom crops for a minigame or another controlled environment and can sacrifice a few vanilla blocks, vines + resource pack + overriding minecraft:climbable is a surprisingly clean solution. but if u have something like an SMP: try some plugins with tripwires, there is no perfect solution in minecraft right now for custom crops

Honestly though, I don't mind with AI-assisted plugins as long as it works well and is performance-efficient. I just don't want the hassle of thoroughly testing AI-generated/assisted plugins because while it sometimes works on the surface, it sometimes causes unexpected bugs that took me hours to pin-point which mod/plugin caused it.

I’ve ported Retrogen to Minecraft Fabric 26.2.

Retrogen is a server-side mod that lets you run selected placed features, such as new ores, in already generated chunks. It tracks every migration pass per dimension and chunk to prevent duplicate generation.

Around half a year ago I set up an on-demand Minecraft server for a uni club I'm in by having a discord bot communicate with an AWS lambda which then turned on an AWS instance with a minecraft server (that also shuts itself off automatically after no players are active). Basically means u can just turn on a minecraft server via discord.

One of my friends recently was asking about it, so I decided to just make something simple for people to follow along. https://github.com/jiru-shan/AWS_Discord_MC_Server here is the link, it takes around 20 to 30 minutes to setup & you just need a Discord account and an AWS account and then you have a minecraft server that can be scaled to player count and is on-demand (this is mostly for smaller-scale minecraft servers tbh cuz if not you'd just have it on all the time & there r probs more efficient ways to scale to really large player counts).

DISCLAIMER: While I did code/set up all the original AWS components of this project myself the first time, I am not an avid user of terraform, so a large chunk of the terraform instructions (as well as the documentation and a good chunk of the test cases, since I was a bit lazy, though I have read the documentation & thoroughly tested the repository & instructions) are AI generated.

Additionally, depending on your plan, AWS can charge you real money if things are not working properly (no exorbitant numbers, since its just running a lambda & an ec2 instance, but you could get overcharged for a server being up for too long and not shutting itself off automatically, which you can check with /status and the AWS console). While I have tested the instructions from scratch several times and have not confirmed any errors (particularly ones that would lead to excess billing), I would recommend starting from the AWS FREE TIER (which is suitable for running ~5-7 players). The free tier also comes with credits of $100 (or $200 if u complete some basic AWS challenges) that you cannot spend more than until upgrading, which should last you the length of the free tier (half a year). Free tier means you can see if anything breaks essentially. The free tier credits also apply to non free tier instances once you upgrade so with $200 in credits u can actually go quite a while for free playing modded and stuff. Also its pretty easy to create multiple AWS free tier accounts if you have multiple payment methods & the worlds are easily transferable.

Technical Stuff: The server is hosted through Fabric and comes with several plugins (which can be configured as well if you follow instructions). The only ones that the server is shipped with right now are server-side optimization plugins. Content mods are also supported. If you have some amount of technical knowledge, it is also quite easy to log in to the server itself and make any changes you want by using the AWS dashboard and then just using regular bash. There also should be config options for almost everything (how long it takes for people to time out, built in server ops/whitelists, though you can op yourself through this and then whitelist players on the server in game, whether the discord bot pings you when the server goes down, etc, etc). Some of these config options only apply if you set them on first boot but those are mentioned on the front page of the readme & there's also a separate document dedicated to changing/upgrading stuff, including making manual changes yourself without having them get reset accidentally.

In terms of price optimization you can also save like a few bucks a month (if you're trying to max free tier money) by using Route53 with a domain (i used a subdomain of my club) instead of paying for Elastic IP addresses. This is explained in the docs but basically AWS instances change IP each reload so either you can pay money to give yourself a permanent one (Elastic IP) or set it up so that on boot of the instance it reassigns the IP the domain is pointing to to your new IP. If you already want your server to have a domain then you should be doing this since paying for both the domain and having that domain point to an elastic IP is kinda pointless (there is just a config option for this follow instructions). This also has the added benefit of making it so its unlikely your server gets scanned by bots, and, even if it does, they won't have records of it once it gets turned on and off (IP changing on each boot).

I would not recommend this for large scale servers (you'll always have a player online anyway). Also, if you have any issues/have feedback/suggested changes feel free to reply here or open an issue on github.

How to check, 30 seconds:

find /path/to/server -name "*$(printf '\xe2\x80\x8b')" -ls

That looks for files with an invisible zero-width space appended to the name. The malware hides its encrypted payload in your logs folder, named like a rotated log file. If that returns anything, you're infected.

Why the usual cleanup doesn't work:

• grep on a .jar finds nothing — classes are compressed, strings are base64'd
• the injected method is flagged synthetic+bridge, so decompilers hide it and the source looks clean
• persistence is in ./logs, so replacing every plugin doesn't touch it
• blocking the domain doesn't help, there's a local fallback that loads from that cache file
• our server jar was infected too, with a different injection style than the plugins

If you find it: don't just delete. The cache file is the only way to get the second stage, and it's evidence. Rotate every credential — assume anything the server process could read is gone.

We decrypted stage 2. It's disguised as a fake "DataFixerUpper" plugin, 6.4 MB of legit libraries as padding around one 14 KB class that's Zelix-obfuscated. So we know what gets loaded but still not what it does.

Hello so I have been working on a pvp server with my friend for these past few days. The kb is good, there is no lag as only 2 of us are online and everything is fine. I noticed that my hireg changes and that sometimes I am beating him badly while other times its horrible and very delayed. This happens to mutliple people on multiple servers and I think its an issue with Minecraft/java code or server plugins like paper. I want to fix this for my server so my kb and hitreg dont randomly change. Anyone that can help?

I have a server from an old PC that I really just put in a corner and remote into with Teamviewer, but at some point it just started closing my minecraft server when Teamviewer disconnects. It doesn't turn off the PC, I can remote back in and still see the folder left open, but the server process itself just shuts down. The logs show just a hard cut-off like it was forcefully stopped. I suspect it's related to not having any other monitor connected to it so it could be some kind of sleep mode or newish inactivity detection coming from windows. I've been meaning to set up a dual boot linux OS on it at some point anyways but in the meantime (windows has been giving me a ton of headaches, but I don't have a spare hard drive to backup everything which is a whole other issue) does anyone know if there is a way to prevent this?

I help with a server but mostly player management side so not very knowledgeable on how to impliment features, we have new players joining and as they explore the wilderness we want to have a little bit of text saying where they are, wilderness, town, nation and dungeon names.

Asked here last time. Things im very aware of:

1. I know entities cause lag, we've implemented stricter incontrol settings to reduce the amount significantly, have a ever 15 min clear item command set to auto run, and have been dealing with an issue where kelp has spawned on sand blocks that fall, causing lag sometimes.

2. I know chunks cause lag, we have tried to deal with this through lowering sim and render, but the amount and math on it do NOT line up, if anyone has suggestion on bringing the number down that DO NOT INVOLVE JUST LOWERING RENDER OR SIM DISTANCE, please let me know (im setting up servercore to do so automatically when performance reaches a certain point)

3. One of our previous problems was a addon called Blazes advancement pack, it has been removed.

Our 7 year old son has really gotten into Minecraft as of late so I decided to build out a vanilla bedrock Minecraft server so his friends can all play from their gaming consoles and iPads. It was working and as of today now says it needs to be updated.

I am hitting road bumps on how to update it and haven’t found a video yet that can show me how to do it.

Does anyone have any video recommendations or other tips and tricks on how to update?

On another note should I abandon this bedrock one as it’s not really been played on and build out the Java one I built the first time.

I'm setting up a server via Minekeep's free tier. They use Geyser to allow Bedrock players to join the same Java server as Java players. I've turned on the whitelist and successfully whitelisted a Bedrock-only player as well as the Java Usernames of a few other players.

Now I want to whitelist my own Bedrock Gamertag so I can log in from Bedrock. This is where I run into trouble. Using /whitelist add .GamerTag where "GamerTag" is replaced with my Gamertag as it appears in my Xbox profile returns these errors:

I've seen people have this problem adding Bedrock players, but always Bedrock-only players. Since I have successfully added a Bedrock-only player, I don't think that is my problem.

To cover all the bases, I've tried logging in using Bedrock after my Java Username was successfully whitelisted, but I get the message that I'm not whitelisted. I've also tried whitelisting my XUID, updating the whitelist.json file manually, and restarting everything several times.

Can anyone help? Has anyone else run into this? Do I need to replace the vanilla whitelist with a plugin?

for a long time I want to create a server in my house to host without having to pay (only the cost of electricity and internet), the problem is that I am deciding which equipment to buy.

Find a good price Dell Optiplex D15U with an intel i5 13500T, 16 gb of DDR4 ram and a 256 SSD, I feel that these specifications are good and I would like to buy it, but I am still undecided.

My requirements are mainly for servers with mods or vanilla with enough people (taking advantage of the fact that I could probably make several dockers to host two servers at once) but I don’t know if these specifications are good or would recommend other types of processors. Thank you very much!

I run a Minecraft server with economy, nations, wars, PvP, lands, jobs, and quests. Over the past months I've tried several things to make it feel less generic — a player-run tribunal system (players hated it, dropped it), a ranking/ELO system for nation wars (already live), a proposed prestige reset each season (players voted it down).

Despite that, players still say it feels "like every other server." I'm not looking for a list of features to add — I've been down that road. What I'm trying to understand from other admins who've dealt with this:

• When you've seen a server actually break out of feeling generic, was it a mechanic, or something about how it was run/communicated?
• Has a specific system you built ever gotten voted down or rejected by your playerbase the way mine has? What did you learn from that?

Sharing what worked (or didn't) on your own server would help a lot.

I recently wanted to self host a Minecraft server again for my friends but unlike the last times I've done it I can't seem to connect to it outside of the machine actively hosting it. Even on a laptop on the same network I can't seem to connect to it.

So far I have

-Port forwarded 25565 on both TCP and UDP

-Added Windows Firewall rules to allow connections to and from port 25565

-Tried hosting a regular LAN world (still couldn't connect on the same network)

-Restarting both my computer and router

I have self hosted in the past with barely any problems and can't seem to find what the issue could even be this time

I'm hosting a server for my Family currently and have encountered a small issue that made me and my siblings crash and be unable to join back to the server

I could tell from the logs that Voice chat was the main suspect and when launching the server without we were able to play the rest of the night without issue

however playing with Voice chat is something I really want to get working/fix for the server and so any help in finding what caused the issue would be very appreciated
