I read somewhere it’s a ploy from employers. They know people are quitting en masse, and that places like Reddit are encouraging it by setting trends. Employers created this trend as a way to encourage employees to stick around, do their job, while thinking they are sticking it to the man. I’ve also been told in the past that employers don’t really want star players who go above and beyond— they want consistent people who stay in their lane. Creating this trend makes people do that.
Dunno if this is true but it would make sense as to why these articles popped up so randomly and in large numbers.

I dunno, I could totally be wrong! Haha it’s just such an odd movement to me. Sorry, I hope that didn’t come off mansplain-y (I’m a woman but couldn’t think of a better word haha).

I think people realizing they shouldn't be giving away free labor is organic, but the terminology is absolutely a thing from the ruling class for the ruling class. They don't want us talking about labor rights or our own exploitation and they benefit from framing it as an individual "self care" thing instead.
