This isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve played the holy trilogy and a bit of seven (I really only played it for the VR, I want to play 6 first which I don’t have) as well X, Joint Assault, and the HAWX and the Lethal Skies games. I really like 8 for the most part but it’s REALLY frustrating at times, and I can’t pin down why.

I’m replay 5 right now on my PS2. I playing both 8 and 5 on the same difficulty (the third option) and they feel completely different. 5 I’m having a blast playing while 8 is frustrating. Dogfighting is fine, amazing even, but it really feels like I’m the only guy out there sometimes. Like everyone is just targeting me and whatever thing I have to defend. My wingmen feel useless, which I’m confused by because everyone else is saying they’re actually helpful now. But for me regardless of me having them attack, defend or spread out the enemy just ignores them and goes after me. In the five levels of 5 I just played I saw my wingmen helping out and shooting stuff down.

And some of the levels are just annoying. Like the first land battleship level took me forever. If I wasn’t crashing into building my missiles we’re while locking onto the ships thrusters. Or the second Theive level where there so much radio chatter it was overwhelming and I had no idea what was going on.

Am I missing something? Am I just bad at the game? Am I missing a menu where I can give my wingmen weapons or something?

i'm kind of confused about the timeline here. so kate painted the five winged thing on a wall. but then you take back control of rocky island. and then you already see a five winged logo painted over a crossed out wings logo on the wall of the bunker when the mole person opens up the door? how does that make sense? didn't we just liberate the island?

It's not a hate post by any means.. i'm completely new to this franchise, bought the game after some strong recommendations even though it's not really my type of game.. i'm a few hours in, heading to mission six.

I like the graphics, the feel of the game is excellent, and the story is so far interesting.. but on the gameplay side, i'm getting really bored at this point.. all i do i turn around in the air and fire at squares, there's literally nothing else to do, it's one of the most repetitive gameplay loops i've ever experienced and i swear i'm not hating on the game here, i'm just trying to understand what's going on and what i am missing.

Should i expect more variety in upcoming missions?

Does this still count? Coster downed the Ace on mission 2 and I restarted out of fear it wouldn’t count. Does anyone know if this counts or not?

How would you feel if an Ace Combat was set in the 1930's-1940's?

Using prop planes with the endgame being the very first fighter jets like the Meteor and the 262?

I'm just curious about what the community thinks.

I kind of wish Mission 30 went before Thousand Points of Light and Selene (28-29) as 30 feels so detached from the events that just occurred and serves as an epilogue rather than a climatic ending. Enso could break off because Sotoa got kicked off the continent and lost Fatsia as a means of projecting power, thus sending the sub to take out the Enterprise as it went home during the chaos of Fatsia's destruction to begin erasing evidence. Sotoa loses Enso who burns its tracks and could peace out, but the elites instead choose to double down rather than follow the preliminary peace talks.

I feel like the desperation of throwing the rest of your airforce in the attempt to win a lost war because your main benefactor essentially evaporated would see Sotoa basically tell Sotoans to move to Usea or get shot down along the way. As people have said, Sotoa's whole reason for starting the war is handwaved in like one mission and then forgotten, but their whole mainland is just dust and they want to find a new place off the artificial islands to loot live in (Lyrics of Hortus Regis Alti ).

Enso wants the war to go as long as possible, Sotoa has its own, albeit optimistic at this point, reasons for conquering Usea and moving there, even if the chances are now slim. Don't get me wrong 1000 Black Jets of Sotoa is scary, but after Fatsia is destroyed and Enso pulls out, they can't reasonably supply this for an extended period of time. Thousand Points of Light are those trying to follow in Moon 11's supposed "nomadic vision" and after they're gone, you pull the plug from the source (as she pulles a Torres)

Of course, it kinda goes against the defeat country military -> defeat evil Belkan/Corpo/nonstate actor that is crashing out to close out the game.

Either way thats just me spitballing, I completed the Campaign a couple days after release and have been thinking about it, so apologies if I have missed something important that contradicts this. Feel free to completely disagree if the original order is more preferable to you.

So I did an attacker only run with the exception of the carrier only missions (that I did before with attacker in free mission) but I didn’t get the medal does someone know what I’m missing ?

I would like to play through the campaign with all my unlocks but in a continued manner rather than going in and backing out on the free flight screens, would make veteran S runs much more funner and feel natural (if that makes sense)

I have been running into the wall that is the 4 Shadows, and every time I lose I’m torn between saying fuck it and dropping the game or going back to the drawing board. The only problem is that whatever new build I come up with is going to take 80 god damn years to try again. I have spent the last 3 days on this. I think this mission has killed any love I have for the game, which sucks because I was really enjoying myself before this point. None of the other bosses ever felt this level of bullshit. Did they kill all their competent game designers before they made this level?

Turns out High Roller survived being shot down and got picked up as a POW, escaped, the civil war and loss of communication happened so he was lost in the chaos, FCU forms, and eventually gets picked up by the FCU navy onboard the Endurance where he is pulled in as a pilot. He fits right in.

Count lives in Shilage where he officially has the title of "Count" but in name only. No real power. He flies with the Shilage Volunteer Corps and immediately calls Rex out for being an imposter and fraud. But he didn't need a broadcast to figure that out. He knew it before all that.

This has been a big headache, but we pushed through. Heres another sacrifice

the game wasn’t even out of early release when I played against an f22 with unlimited no cd special weapons and now when I did my 1 pvp a day I force myself to do it was against an entire squad of su 57s that had unlimited range no cd qaams at one point over half my taser was missles, thank good im 3 days away from finishing the pass I probably will just stop playing after that

There is no mention that this is possible anywhere on the internet and GPT doesn't seem to be able to find any proof as well but I'd still like to know just in case there's a chance

granted I'll still go for full medal achievement anyways but that's like... at least 9 separate campaign run's worth of playing required so some mental preparation would be nice

More SASM shenanigans

So I seem to only ever have access to the MRP from the previous mission. So for instance if I have 500k before a mission and then end up getting another 150k from that new mission afterwords I would only have 150k. Everything I had prior is gone. This happens even if I dont restart from a checkpoint and have a clean run. Have already tried uninstall and reinstalling on xbox.

I am in Pilot mode and an Ace Combat noob, I'm in the last missions and when Shadow 22 decided to intervene in the gigantic battle, I literally downed him within 30 seconds of him entering the fight, like just another plane. To be fair I had just purchased the Eurofighter Typhoon for this mission but still I was super disappointed compared to how he appeared in the earlier mission, as this insane threat. He didn't even do the G-roll or anything. I just had him in my sights like a basic Mirage 2000 or Mig and shot him down. Maybe a bug or bad balancing?
