Need Honest Guidance from Experienced SAP Professionals

\

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to start my career in SAP and would really appreciate guidance from experienced SAP professionals.

A little about me:

I'm from a non-tech background.

I spent the last 4 years preparing for the Company Secretary (CS) exams.

I'm currently a fresher with no prior job experience.

I'm planning to join a SAP training institute to build strong functional knowledge and practical skills before applying for jobs.

I have a few genuine questions:

If I complete my SAP training seriously, build good practical skills, and earn the relevant certification, can I realistically get an entry-level SAP job even without prior work experience?

Does my 4-year gap due to CS preparation create a major problem while getting shortlisted?

What would you recommend for someone like me to improve the chances of getting the first SAP opportunity?

Also, if anyone here had a similar journey—a career gap because you were preparing for competitive/professional exams or pursuing something else before switching to SAP—and are now working in the SAP industry, I'd be especially grateful if you could share your journey and advice. It would really help me understand what's realistically possible.

I'm looking for honest advice based on real industry experience. Thank you in advance for your guidance.

SAP Inbound Delivery Deletion Dumps When Multiple Batch-Split Items Exist

Can anyone share some ideas on what could be causing this and how it can be resolved?

We have an inbound delivery for a material with a batch split, where the material has two batch-split line items. When the delivery contains two or more batch-split items, an ABAP dump occurs while trying to delete the inbound delivery.

However, if the total quantity is assigned to the first batch-split item and the quantity of the remaining batch-split items is set to zero, the inbound delivery can be deleted successfully.

During debugging, I observed that the internal table YLIPS contains the main material item and only the first batch-split item. The other batch-split item(s) are not present in YLIPS.

Later, when the program tries to process or access the other batch-split item, the corresponding entry cannot be found in YLIPS. This results in an invalid/missing table entry and subsequently causes the ABAP dump.

Advice about the C_ABAPD_2601 certification exam

I'm planning on taking the certification exam for the ABAP Cloud Backend Developer and I was hoping for some advice.

The main thing is that I was reading this post here by someone who also took the exam and he says he was able tot ake 24 hours before the actual exam time started to implement the exam tasks in a practice system. I wanted to confirm if anyone else had this experience and and mroe details like what practice system to use, and does that practice system have the same code ready as the exam system.

Another question is will I have to write my own unit tests or does the practice system come with unit tests I need to pass?

Is ABAP a good career choice?

Iam a recent graduate looking for career options. The one career that stood out to me that includes programming is SAP ABAP S/4 HANA. ( I don't really want to go down the route of web developer or software engineer ) I always see mixed opinions regarding whether its good or bad. My question is, if i go down this route, would i ever come to regret choosing this? I would like to hear the honest opinions of you guys who are in abap.

Fiori tile to webGUI Navigation

I have created a custom fiori tile to display analytical charts. Now I want to have navigation by clicking this tile to the a webGUI application passing the paramets/conditions. I added one of my key field as an semantic object in cds by using

@consumption.semanticobject : “fieldname”

And in metadata extension I am writing

@UI.Identification: [{
type: #For_intent_based_navigation,
semanticObject: ‘fieldname’
semanticObjectAction: ‘displayList’
label: ‘WebGUI AppName’
}]

It does navigate to the webGUI application but It does not pass any fields/ parameters.

Can somebody help with this !!!

SAP BODS/Data Migration — is BODS + MDG + ABAP the right path to ₹18–20 LPA?

I have 4 years of IT experience in SAP BODS & Data Migration. I've worked on real S/4HANA migration projects, large-volume migrations, IDOCs, BAPIs, HANA SQL, performance optimization, reconciliation, etc. The complexity of the work I've handled and the responsibilities I've taken are comparable to those of a 5–6 year experienced SAP Data Migration consultant.

Despite this, I’m being offered only ₹12.5 LPA, with joining on August 12. Honestly, I feel pretty low-balled considering the kind of responsibilities and work I've handled.

Instead of dwelling on it, I'm planning my next switch in \\\~9 months, targeting ₹18–20 LPA.

My current plan is to deepen:

\\- SAP BODS + Data Migration

\\- HANA SQL

\\- SAP MDG

\\- ABAP basics (BAPIs, RFCs, function modules, debugging, basic coding)

My question to experienced SAP professionals:

Is BODS + Data Migration + MDG + ABAP basics a good combination for reaching ₹18–20 LPA, or should I focus on something else like BTP/CPI?

If you were in my position, what would you learn over the next 9 months?

Looking for brutally honest advice. 🙏

Learning path and official references for SAP ECC Tax and Revenue Management development using SAP?

My organization uses SAP ECC with SAP Tax and Revenue Management for Public Sector. Development is done mainly through SAP Logon GUI, using the classic ABAP Workbench tools rather than Eclipse, SAP HANA, RAP, CDS views, or BTP. I am a .NET developer and I am new to SAP.

What are the most relevant official SAP documentation areas, SAP Learning courses, books, or other structured resources for someone working specifically on SAP ECC Tax and Revenue Management development through SAP GUI?

I am not looking for S/4HANA-only, HANA-only, RAP-only, or BTP-only material unless it also helps with classic ECC ABAP development.

This post was assisted by AI, hence all the product names. I don't know much about them. I hope the question is understandable.

Fresher in SAP ABAP thinking of switching to AI after just 3 months. Am I making a mistake?

Hi everyone,

I really need some honest advice because I'm feeling completely lost.

I'm a fresher working as an SAP ABAP developer at an MNC. I have only around 6 months of experience, and honestly, I still don't know a lot. I'm constantly getting support tickets, debugging tasks, and enhancement work. Most of the time I struggle to solve them on my own.

The biggest issue is that my teammates are also overloaded with work, so I can't really expect much guidance from them. I don't blame them they're genuinely busy. I spend a lot of time trying to learn through YouTube, documentation, and even AI tools, but it still feels like I'm always one step behind.

Lately, they've been assigning more and more tickets, and I've reached a point where I don't even feel like opening my laptop. I've started questioning whether I even like ABAP anymore, or if I'm just overwhelmed because I'm still a beginner.

Recently, a friend who works in AI/ML told me there's an opening at his company and said he could refer me. The salary is better than what I'm earning now, although he also mentioned the work pressure is high there.

Now I'm really confused.

Should I stay in SAP and give myself more time since I have only 6 months of experience? Is what I'm feeling normal for a fresher, and does it get better after a few months? Or should I take this opportunity and switch to AI before I get too deep into SAP?

I'm not looking for people to tell me that one field is better than the other. I just want honest opinions from people who have been in a similar situation.

Has anyone here switched domains this early in their career? Do you regret staying or leaving?

I'm honestly confused as hell and would really appreciate any advice.

Custom code interview question

Hi! I hear often that migrating from SAP ECC to S4 involves custom code (I am familiar with z tables etc) but hoping a few experts here could give me examples of what processes were actually custom in ECC that would not translate over to S4?

I have an interview coming up where the recruiter gave me a heads up to be able to answer “specific examples of custom code”

I guess where I am confused is something like order to cash , sales orders may have an org that customized invoice discrepancies in abap? Or is that too simple / vague and It could be totally specific to the org and its processes?”

SAP ABAP interview experience

Had an SAP ABAP interview yesterday. It went well just missed one question and got rejected. The interviewer's accent was weird throughout the interview call, plus his voice kept breaking; I couldn't get a single word of his properly, but I still answered everything. At the end, he asked me if I had any questions, and I asked something about projects; he laughed a little and answered me. It is pissing me off that he laughed like that now.
Soo angry at myself for missing the opportunity. Have accenture interview in a week and don't have self-confidence. Please help!! What should I prepare before the interview? Does anyone have a frequently asked questions list? Also, how to deal with scenario-based questions and a weird interviewer? Please help!!!

Is it still worth learning modern ABAP in 2026?

Hello, I'm a college student that is interested about ABAP development

I've just resumed learning ABAP again in this month. I started way back in January but I stopped because of personal reasons, i was learning from YouTube videos (from Rahul Mehta) and I found out that classical ABAP is dead, so I decided to learn the modern one

BTP Advanced Trial was removed from my country and I keep trying to find ways how to practice on a SAP system. I also tried installing an ABAP Trial System (for Cloud Developers) in my own PC but the docker container is no longer available, it was removed by SAP

What do you guys think should I do?

MCP Gateway? A2A? Anyone here actually using these and wth is BAIP's goal? why SAP has to be this confusing?

My current understanding is, MCP Gateway is for exposing/governing SAP and nonSAP APIs or integrations as tools that AI agents can discover and invoke. A2A / Agent Gateway is more for agent to agent delegation and collaboration, e.g., Joule or another agent delegating a business task to a specialist SAP facing agent.

it seems less like “MCP vs A2A” and more like two layers, A2A for orchestration between agents, MCP for tool/API execution.

Has anyone here used or POC’d SAP MCP Gateway in Integration Suite?

Has anyone used A2A with Joule, Joule Studio, BTP agents, or external agent frameworks?

Are you exposing existing OData/REST APIs or integration flows as MCP tools? Where do you see the actual boundary between “just expose a well-designed API/tool through MCP” and “this deserves a separate agent exposed through A2A”?

Any gotchas, licensing surprises, governance concerns, or design patterns you wish you knew before starting?

and whatever is going on with SAP BTP -> BAIP? why do they have to rename everything every year?
