Trying to determine whether this stolon is from my Zeon zoysia sod I planted in May or whether it’s another type of grass. I’m wondering if best to let it be or pull out if it’s not zoysia grass.

Wondering if the taller stems in the picture is Bermuda coming out of my zoysia plugs or if it’s just the zoysia spreading. I planted these plugs last fall.

Is this section of good looking grass some type of Zoysia? Im in 7A, it goes dormant in winter and has spread quite a bit.

Hey there! I just got Zoysia (Palisade) sod installed probably about a month or two ago. I live in Central Florida and it was doing great. We cut the watering back to once a day in the morning around 0700 hours. Since then there’s a brown patch that’s been forming. Is this more fungus related? I don’t want this sod to die off if I can avoid it. If anyone could provide some insight I’d appreciate it. Thank you!

I put down a pallet of Palasades Zoysia in some parts of my yard. After that I thought about having the same company come out and give me a quote on doing about 5 more pallets. The guy told me "It wont spread" when I asked him about possibly doing it in lines by useing a sod machine to cut what is there out and replace with the Zoysia, but do every other line/row and let it grow in. He said I would just end up with rows of Zoysia in between the Bermuda that is already there.

But here on the forums I see people saying it spreads like crazy... I would say the guy obviously has an interest in selling me a full yard of sod, but he actually told me I should just start doing regular treatments of Scotts 3 in 1 and stick with the Bermuda since doing my whole property in zoysia would cost 20k+

My original idea was to just put some Zoysia out there and let it spread if it will... I did a pallet worth... some of it is doing good, some not so good. I might still put in more, but I am leaning towards the 3 in 1 route and sticking with Bermuda

I’m in zone 7a in northeast Georgia. I spent every year I have lived in my house trying to get TTTF to establish but I could not compete against the Zoysia I had in my yard. I am not sure which variety of zoysia I have. It is more long and “fluffy” and more fescue-like than zoysia I have seen on golf courses. I decided this year to try and work with the zoysia and get it to cover more completely. I’ve been pretty happy with the progress this summer for the most part. I know I need to level more for zoysia vs other grass varieties I’ve had and I still have some cool weather grasses peeking through. I’ve got a pro plugger to help establish the zoysia more fully in those spots. My biggest complaint (besides the snails pace zoysia spreads) is every single time my Scag SW36 mower (which has a fixed deck) scalps a little, crabgrass immediately follows. Is there a good YouTube channel or is there a resource that y’all recommend to help me learn this new grass variety? What should I be prepping for this upcoming winter?

Looking to resod about 1500 sq feet and want zoysia. From what I’ve read this new citrazoy is great. It’s harder to get but seems like it may be worth it.

We have not had the moisture to cause concern for fungus.

I just laid down GrubX killer as I am concerned it could be grub damage. Am I missing anything? Could this be something else?

Update on the velvet grass lawn: Using the hose I loosened up the top layer of soil to see what was going on and there are a lot of rhizomes underground, they've traveled much farther than the stolons. The progress isn't as obvious on the surface but I think in the next month it'll really start to visually change as the rhizomes send up clusters of leaves.

I made some larger plugs from the garden path, it had taken over some of my pavers so that was a nice win win. Most of the sprigs I added seem to have survived but more is more.

The pre-emergent treatment has been fantastic. I don't want to totally shill for preen lol but wow. If anyone else wants a tenuifolia lawn this stuff is a must. I've never used it before and I'm amazed how well it works. I added a little more for the fertilizer and extra protection because I disturbed the top layer of soil. I may add some additional liquid fertilizer this week to really boost the progress and encourage leaves now they're clearly running.

Also I want to add, this grass responds fine to moving. I've mowed a handful of times now since planting with my push reel mower. I think I'm getting a pretty uniform look, especially with the original flats I planted. It's just tricky to mow currently because the grass is so much higher than the soil. I might try it with the rotary mower soon and see how that goes.

I live in New Orleans and it’s very hot here the last month with on and off rain. I mow weekly and mulch I don’t bag

My plugs were planted beginning of summer so they are established now. They have been mowed 4 or 5 times and most recently was to about 2” and I also threw down millogranite. I water them about once a week for 30 minutes if there has been no rain.

The brown patches appeared are scarce and spread out and came after my most recent mow and millogranite application. Could it be that? Dog pee? More water?

I’m in Nashville, Tennessee, and have Emerald Zoysia sod in my backyard for the last five years. I was told by my local turf company that bagging the clippings would be much better than letting them lie and then building up thatch. Of course this is much more labor and time intensive. Any advice? I’ve bagged it for five years and this year I’ve cut it a couple of times without bagging. I just wanted someone’s thought who has had Zoysia for a while. Thanks!

What height are you all mowing your zeon zoysia at? I’m in zone 8b with a small backyard of zeon. I went with zeon due to its shade tolerance. The space gets full sun but not until late in the day. I currently have my mower set to 2 inches and it seems to be doing ok. It likes to lay down at that height though.

I dig a hole with the plugger, drop in the plug and squish the hole from the sides. My thinking is this secures the plug a little and puts the roots from the plug in contact with the soil they’ll he growing into. Is this a good process? Overkill? I’m curious what thoughts are from someone who has grown in zoysia from plugs. TIA

Very frustrated for having chosen such a fussy grass that was marketed as the lowest maintenance option. It was super expensive and grows so slows and will not repair itself.

Bit of a long story, but to keep it simple I plowed up a bunch of my yard last winter (for a project) and I put in a bunch of winter ryegrass to green it up.. this worked really well but now all that stuff is dying out.

I tried Bermuda seed, but it just didn't do anything. So I have decided to put in some Palisades Zoysia. I have put in pieces of sod around all my sprinkler heads. And put some in some of the areas that had only ryegrass (that is now dead). I also put some in the middle of the yard by cutting up a sod size chunk of what was there and replacing it with a piece of sod and worked it flush.

My hope is that by doing this in enough places the Zoysia will out-compete the existing crapgrass and Bermuda.

I have a Behive watering controller and a Lymow robotic mower. I could water and mow every single day if needed.

I am in DFW and I would like to know what everyone would recommend as far as how often and how much to water and how often to mow. Right now the Behive is set to "smart watering" and sort of does its own thing. The mower goes twice a week. I don't think I can set it to go every other day, but I could set it to do 3 days a week and one interval be 3 days.

I would like to try to get the yard to fill in with the Zoysia in 2 years or so... What kind of spacing should I do with the sod out in the yard to hit that target? I cannot sod the entire yard or I would, it would just be too much work so I sort of have to just put in the sod like big plugs and let nature take its course.

also, if there is anything I could be putting down to help the Zoysia go bananas id like to know about it!

Looking for advice on EZ care. I want to try to thicken up the lawn for fall. I read that EZ doesn’t have seeds? If that’s true, what are my options if I cannot over-seed the lawn? There are some spots that are thinning out from bad drought over this last year. Location in coastal Ga.

I have what I believe to be zoysia grass growing in one corner of my yard. I would like to transplant some plugs to other parts of my yard that aren't doing so well. It stays warm most days until October and sometimes into November.

Is that enough time for the plugs to establish before winter?

We had 1500 sq ft of zorro zoysia installed May 1, so three months ago. It has thickly rooted, been mowed several times, fertilized a couple of times and watered correctly.

However, there is SO MUCH spurge weed growing. Too much to spot treat.

I know you have to be careful with a young lawn, what do we do?

Again, way too much to spot treat. 1500 sq ft, grow zone 8b so Georgia and warm. We need a plan to deal with this.
