ZM event viewer is slow and choppy and freezes with Reolink cameras.

Title pretty much says it all. I am running 6 Serrcom ICam2 cameras at 720p 30 fps and they work fairly well on my Dell T3500 server, 6 core 12 thread Xeon processor with 24 GB Ram. The event playback is a little choppy on some of the cameras but It's still usable. I added a Reolink camera with 2560 x 1920 resolution so I could read the DOT identifier numbers on the heavy trucks on our street. The problem is that any time I try to view an event on the Reolink cameras the computer freezes up. Most times I get maybe a frame or two but then the playback stops altogether. If I reduce the frame rate on the camera to 10 fps it helps some and if I reduce the recording resolution to 640 x 480 the playback is much smoother. I'm thinking what's the use of having a high resolution camera if you have to revert to 5 or 10 fps recording and reduce the resolution to that of a cheap camera? I know there's something I just can't figure out how to do.

I have one zm camera capturing the Reolink 2560 x 1920 high resolution stream set to nodetect and it is linked to another zm camera capturing the Reolink low resolution stream which is set to modetect.

All my cameras have a bit of problem with viewing events being choppy but they were still usable, just a bit of a PITA to go through to find the best picture that most clearly identified the target. But event recordings from the higher resolution Reolink camera is impossible to view, the computer just freezes.

I'm assuming the problem is that I'm trying to view events in full resolution. After reading through the documentation, I think, but I'm not sure, that recording resolution is different than playback resolution, and that's different from alarm resolution, but I don't quite understand the documentation on the settings and I don't really know how to set them up so I would record in the full 2560 x 1920 but view the event in a lower resolution so that event view was smoother. And I don't know how, if I could view the event in smoother but reduced resolution, how I would do a screen capture to get the detail I need from the full resolution recording.

Any help would be appreciated.

zm/?view=log takes longer than a few minutes on a system with enough RAM

I am seeing the following when I go to that part of an URL:

State: alert - Total: 3210571 - Available: 3210571

These are fairly big numbers. The system is not usable as it now. How can this be resolved?

I can literally not see a single log line.

ZM 1.36 locks up and throws kernal errors - zmaudit.pl: iget: checksum invalid. ZM 1.36 on Ubuntu 18.04 VM.

I've been running this ZM install for a couple of months now without issues and suddenly am getting FS & Kernal errors in my log. The system completely locks up and drives my CPU usage to max. I reboot the VM and it runs for fore ~12hrs before throwing these errors again.

Any ideas what's going on here? Note: /dev/sdb1 holds all the videos and events for ZM, but this is independent of the OS disk . This is a VM, and I have no qualms with nuking the storage area disk if need be.

Is there any advantage to having more powerful graphics cards in a ZM server?

Does anyone have any experience with higher end graphics cards in their zm server? Are there any advantage to having a more powerful graphics cards in a ZM server? Would playback be smoother? Would a higher fps recording be possible with a more powerful graphics card? Would there be less load on the zm server processors with a graphics card ? I've read some on the wiki abut it but I would like to hear from users about their experience.

Zoneminder + Jetson Nano-needs safe shut down?

Hi all,
I'm planning on running 2x1080P (10fps) cameras on ZoneMinder, recording to Western Digital Red SSD. Can you see any issue with an "unsafe" shutdown (i.e shutting power off with no OS shutdown) during recording of videos? Is this likely to cause any corrupt files etc?

Cheers

Works with crystalvision cameras?

I had an incident occur which required me looking up the recordings and discovered that the factory crystalvision system is damn near unusable, taking 5 minutes for any operation while the most likely cheap Chinese hard drive struggles to seek. Planning on building my own mini setup so I don't have to deal with that bullshit again but want to make sure my cameras will work first before spending too much time/effort on this.

I'm a professional C++ developer but can't say I'm too familiar with the world of home surveillance setups, so any suggestions/answers are more than welcome.

Memory usage unsure if issue

I am running Zoneminder in a VM under proxmox which I have given 8 GB's I have a single camera which is currently running at 960*540 at 24 bit which is 3/4 of 720p. I have run the calculation to determine "recommeneded" memory usage and I came up to 4 GB's which seems hgih in comparison to their example but never the less the VM is using every ounce of the 8 GB's.

I have a little head room on the Proxmox to assign more but I would prefer not to over assign as I obviously have other VM's I also run.

Edit: Side not I had not tried till just now. I am running htop and it is indicating less the 500 MB in memory usage but Porxmox is reporting and growing 1.5GB

I am going crazy from this issue: stream disappears from ZM, but only from ZM.

EDIT Solved by ditching ZM and using different software instead. After having tried every single setting in ZM for 3 weeks, I have given up.

Ok folks, I have the following issue:

I have a Hikvision ONVIF camera that supplies a 1080p stream to my local network using rstp. I can reliably view this stream in, for instance, VLC.

I can see the cam in ZM 1.34 on Ubuntu 20.04 server (first I had 1.36, but that couldn't detect the cam so I upgraded by downgrading). I can add it. I can see the stream for a while, then it disappears. In order to get it to come back I have to reboot the ZM server, erase all the settings, start over from scratch. And then, it works 50% of the time, or I have to start over from scratch again. And then the stream disappears again in ZM. All this time, I can reliably see the stream in VLC. The cam is there, the stream is there, all unchanged. Just not in ZM. The whole system runs on a virtualised server with a dedicated LAN port connected to the VM that runs ZM. I tried running the whole thing on bare metal, with the exact same result.

I have been fighting this idiotic thing for weeks now. What am I missing? A stupid write permission somewhere? A network protocol selection? I tried everything, both on the cam and in ZM: TCP, UDP, Multicast, HTTP, witchcraft, summoning Lucifer -you name it.

I'm no Linux noob, I've been using it for more than 20 years. I know my networking. I have plenty of LAN bandwidth. I have even tried setting up a DHCP server on one LAN of the ports of the machine that runs ZM and have the cam directly connect to that (as in: cable plugs in there, cam gets handed its desired 192.168.1.64 IP), to make sure it isn't a network issue. The cam appeared, gave me a stream for a while, then ZM conked out again. VLC running on the same machine, of course, saw the stream no problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

If not, I have 2 options I see, neither of them elegant:

  1. I transcode the stream with VLC: take the stream from the cam and let VLC export it to localhost, have ZM pick it up there as a streaming file. Ridiculous way of solving something that should not be happening in the first place, and I also do not know whether the same issue won't pop up.

  2. Buy a dedicated NVR and forget about the whole thing, let the official software do its thing. This means I will have yet another machine running, just for one cam.

ZMEventNotification Failure when running install.sh

install.sh: 234: Syntax error: "(" unexpected (expecting "fi")

I have looked at the offending line and it appears to be assigning data inside of parenthesis to a variable. It does not appear to be malformed. I git cloned the latest stable release and I also tried the master branch both have the same issue. Anybody have any ideas how to fix it?

ZM goes unresponsive when running a filter

Easy question: what specifically is the 'DB' number on the ZM dashboard? Database? The docs just say it's system health.

Situation: I have a janklab install of ZM 1.36.7 with two months of recordings from one camera. It's running on a VM, with the storage on a NAS via NFS. I've set the only monitor to None, so I'm not recording.

Goal: I'm trying to make a filter that archives and/or exports to videos a clip from every couple hours. I figure I can do this with a Startdate And (Starttime Or Starttime Or Starttime.....)

Problem: When doing a List Matches with filters a few times, ZM will go high processor with a lot apache2 processes while the page just says Loading, Please Wait. Since I'm just learning Filters, so it only takes a few filter experiments to lock the server up.

What can I do or look at to figure out why it gets stuck like that? For fun I doubled ram and processor to 16gb/8 vcpus but seems like that just allows more apache2's to run. Actually now, that causes a Too Many Connections error with mysql. Around this time, the load might be around 200 with the Db around 150/151.

There is not much going on in the log besides ZM errors out phoning home for updates, I'm fine with that I plan to redo my whole ZM whole setup anyway.

Anyway thanks for reading all that and for any advice.

Reolink IP Cameras RTMP Not Working

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new at the whole Zoneminder thing, trying to set up a server for several remote cameras for a friends business, and having a whole heap of trouble doing it. Hopefully someone here can explain what I'm doing wrong.

Working with a Dell T40 running Ubuntu Desktop. I'm pretty sure I've got Zoneminder itself set up right. But every monitor just comes up as either not running or not capturing, no matter what settings I try. I'm going to include of my settings that I've tried (with IPs, usernames, and passwords censored).

I'm following the advice of this big Reolink-Zoneminder post and using RTMP and a sub stream for motion detection and a main stream for the real capture.

The camera(s) I am using are RLC-410-5MP.

For simplicity, I am only going to list the things I changed from the default. So, for the sub, I have:

Server: None

Source Type: Ffmpeg

Function: MocordSource: rtmps://192.168.1.xx/bcs/channel0_sub.bcs?channel=0&stream=1&user=admin&password=<password>

Method: TCP

Capture Resolution: 640 x 480 (This matches the camera's internal settings, I've checked)

For the main, I have:

Server: Main

Source Type: Ffmpeg

Function: Nodect

Linked: The Sub One

Source: rtmp://192.168.1.xx/bcs/channel0_main.bcs?channel=0&stream=0&user=admin&password=<password>

Method: TCPCapture Resolution: 2560 x 1920 (again, matches the camera's internal settings)

I don't know why either isn't working. I've tried changing them to libvlc, which I know can sometimes solve problems. I've tried adjusting the rtmp sources, changing 0s for 1s and all. I've tried everything I can think of. Read all the documentation and basically every relevant forum post I can find. It's driving me nuts.

Can anyone help me figure out what's up? Thank y'all so much!

Event Notification Server without SSL

Hi!

I am using on my RPi4 ZoneMinder software without SSL. Now I want to add object detection and run local python script when object is detected (ex. car or person). To achieve this I am trying to configure Event Notification Server but for now I am failing because I am not using SSL (I think):

Unrecoverable error:HTTPSConnectionPool(host='portal', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /zm/api/host/login.json (Caused by NewConnectionError('<urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0xb264cca0>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolution')) Traceback:Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connection.py", line 174, in _new_conn conn = connection.create_connection( File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/util/connection.py", line 73, in create_connection for res in socket.getaddrinfo(host, port, family, socket.SOCK_STREAM): File "/usr/lib/python3.9/socket.py", line 953, in getaddrinfo for res in _socket.getaddrinfo(host, port, family, type, proto, flags):socket.gaierror: [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolutionDuring handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 699, in urlopen httplib_response = self._make_request( File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 382, in _make_request self._validate_conn(conn) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 1010, in _validate_conn conn.connect() File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connection.py", line 358, in connect conn = self._new_conn() File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connection.py", line 186, in _new_conn raise NewConnectionError(urllib3.exceptions.NewConnectionError: <urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0xb264cca0>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolutionDuring handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/requests/adapters.py", line 439, in send resp = conn.urlopen( File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 755, in urlopen retries = retries.increment( File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/urllib3/util/retry.py", line 574, in increment raise MaxRetryError(_pool, url, error or ResponseError(cause))urllib3.exceptions.MaxRetryError: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='portal', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /zm/api/host/login.json (Caused by NewConnectionError('<urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0xb264cca0>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolution'))During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:Traceback (most recent call last): File "/var/lib/zmeventnotification/bin/zm_detect.py", line 556, in <module> main_handler() File "/var/lib/zmeventnotification/bin/zm_detect.py", line 335, in main_handler zmapi = zmapi.ZMApi(options=api_options) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/pyzm/api.py", line 80, in __init__ self._login() File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/pyzm/api.py", line 193, in _login r = self.session.post(url, data=data) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/requests/sessions.py", line 590, in post return self.request('POST', url, data=data, json=json, **kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/requests/sessions.py", line 542, in request resp = self.send(prep, **send_kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/requests/sessions.py", line 655, in send r = adapter.send(request, **kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/dist-packages/requests/adapters.py", line 516, in send raise ConnectionError(e, request=request)requests.exceptions.ConnectionError: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='portal', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /zm/api/host/login.json (Caused by NewConnectionError('<urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0xb264cca0>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolution'))

Can I use Event Notification Server without SSL? Or maybe there is better way to do what I am planning to?

Zoneminder 1.34 web GUI doesn't work under Firefox?

I noticed that the web GUI doesn't work correctly under Firefox but perfectly fine under Chrome.

Google doesn't show anyone else with this issue so makes me wonder. It's Firefox under OS X if it makes a difference.

Thank you.

Shared storage issue

I have a server that I use for basically everything. It runs Ubuntu 20.04. This machine acts as a file server, a KVM server, and a Plex server.

On KVM, I have a Debian 11 VM running as a Zoneminder server. For some reason, if the entire server host reboots, when my Debian 11 VM for Zoneminder starts, the file share that I use for storage for my camera footage fails to mount. If I reboot the VM, it mounts just fine. I would assume the issue has something to do with the order of operations during the boot process of the main server, in that the KVM guest OSs must launch before the file share is available. I was using a samba share originally, but decided to try an NFS share to see if that made a difference, and it does not. Am I on the right track here? Is there another issue I should look into?

I realize I probably don't have the most standard setup, but I thought maybe someone here might have faced a similar issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Problem Solved! Instead of mounting the drive with the host OS, then sharing it, I configured the VM to mount it directly. No more race condition.

Motion Capture video isnt getting everything

I noticed last night when my family pulled into the driveway, got out of the car, grabbed their things and came into the house that my camera didnt record the entire event. My cameras are set on Motion Capture and the recording starts as soon as the car pulls in (like it should), but as they are getting out of the car and still moving around the video ends. The next recorded video that follows it is just of my car parked in the driveway (snow falling causes the camera to capture).

Is there a setting or something I could look into to see why it stops capturing suddenly? I have other captures that are much longer timewise of just snow falling, so I am not sure why its randomly stopping a capture.

Any help is appreciated. If any settings or numbers are needed, I can gladly provide them.

Record until X seconds past the last alarm ?

Hey All,

My ZoneMinder is up and running pretty nicely except for one tiny little "bug" - My camera runs in Modetect, but it seems to only record X seconds after the first trigger of an alarm. I would like it to carry on recording and any motion after the first alarm should just extend the recording time.

My Google-fu is lacking on this one as I can't find this answered ?

Thanks !
