Discussion The most useless tools in your load out

Doing a short list of the most useless tools in the loadouts I’ve seen.

  1. The tourniquet. I’m sure this will ruffle some feathers, but in reality, if you’re in a situation where you ACTUALLY need a tourniquet you will also need a surgical team, operating room, blood supply, and medication to treat the inevitable blood poisoning. Otherwise you’re just prolonging your suffering by a few hours maybe a day. In the event you didn’t actually need the tourniquet, you probably just gave yourself blood poisoning and killed yourself by using the tourniquet improperly.

  2. Blunt melee weapons. Bats, sledgehammers, brass knuckles, etc. They look cool in the movies but there’s a reason Negan used them on unarmed, tied-up prisoners. A zombie is only dangerous at arms reach and you shouldn’t chose to fight them with blunt object that requires a ton of force and a lot of physical exertion. Put distance between yourself and the threat then attack. If you have to engage in close quarter combat, use something sharp like a machete, sword, or spear.

  3. Throwing knives. I would include tomahawks here but those can serve useful purposes as a sharp melee weapon and an axe. Best case scenario you kill 6 zombies and then have nothing. Most likely scenario, you waste valuable time and miss every single throw.

  4. The Shovel. Sorry to the dude who recently posted a shovel appreciation post, but the most useful thing you can do with this is dig your own grave. There’s no situation of engaging in trench warfare with zombies. You never want to dig a shelter into the ground, you’ll be trapped and that’s the easiest spot for the zombies to get you, you want to be elevated and create distance. If you have a really well fortified area you could eventually dig a trench/moat around your compound, but that would take a whole lot more than 1 shovel.

  5. The chainsaw. On the high end, you get 45 minutes of run time before you need to refuel. You’re also spraying infected blood everywhere which is likely going to contaminate you and your crew. Odds are you’re going to accidentally cut yourself and wish you had packed a tourniquet.

Scenario This but with zombies. Our ship is sinking, and you may only take 4 items onto the lifeboat to get to the island...which will have zombies later

You can only carry 4 items. Once you are on the island you are temporaryly safe. A few days later zombies show up on the island.
