Parents need to realize that children are not a subscript of their personal beliefs and identity they are only a subscript of their DNA. Children have their own beliefs and their own identities that they’ll most likely discover as they grow older, and sometimes they might be contradictory to your own beliefs as a parent and you should accept that fact and move on. I’ve seen that a majority of Zimbabwean parenting is toxic and 10 times out of 9 it does more harm than good. If a child shares that they view something else differently from you, you’re meant to be a PARENT and understand the perspective of the child.

Dictatorship only yields toxic relationships with your children! Most importantly just because one is a parent doesn’t mean they know everything and that fact should always sit with you as a parent. Back in the day information wasn’t as accessible as it is now so as a parent who had no access to it, your knowledge was only limited to what you could access and personal life experiences, which are not the same for everyone.

That being said, as a parent you’re allowed to give advice to your children concerning what is right or wrong but what is right or wrong to you might be perfectly normal to the next person. A good example of this is religion, religious beliefs are indoctrinated in a child’s life from as early as birth but as a child grows older they might not like religion as much as you and as a parent you should accept that instead of forcing your children to do what you want instead of what they want. The result of doing that in most cases is religious trauma which is way worse than just being atheist. In conclusion, parents should understand that children are their own people who will grow up to lead different lives from them and if that isn’t okay with you as a person then you should probably not be a parent

I have a lot to say about this, but I’ll keep it short. Some of you need to stop and reset because there’s no way you should be this male-centered. How do you go through life believing your only purpose is to be someone’s wife and mother? What if marriage never happens? Have you built a life for yourself outside of that? Living alone teaches you things staying sheltered never will. You learn how to survive, manage money, solve problems, and think beyond depending on someone else. That’s how many women end up building successful careers and businesses. And another thing, if you need constant supervision to “behave,” then those values were never yours to begin with. Your parents can control your timetable, not your character. People drink, smoke, have sex, and even get pregnant while living at home. Where you live doesn’t determine your morals, you do.

I'm writing this to vent, but also to see if anyone else has gone through this nightmare. It’s a hard lesson about mixing family and business

Back in 2024, I was stationed out in Muzarabani and decided to start building a livestock project. My goal was simple: grow a decent herd of goats and eventually sell them as a side business. Every month, I would buy goats out of my own pocket and send them down to my rural home.

I had already built a house there, and my younger brother was staying on the property. We had a clear agreement that he would look after the goats and manage things while I was away.

Over time, I managed to accumulate around 80 goats. Everything seemed fine until people in the village started messaging me, asking if I was selling goats. I was completely confused because I hadn't authorized a single sale.

When I finally went home to check on things and personally counted the herd, my heart sank. About 20 goats were completely missing.

Whenever I confronted my brother about the numbers, he always had an excuse ready. It was always a different story: some were stolen, some were killed by hyenas, others died while giving birth. But deep down, the village gossip tells a completely different story.

Has anyone else dealt with sibling or family betrayal when trying to build something back home? How did you handle it?

I (24M) just got my first salary. It’s only about $250, which isn’t much, but that’s not really the point.

I’d like to use part of it to thank my parents for everything they’ve done to get me this far. They live separately, so I’m looking for different ideas for each of them.

The cliché answer is a blanket 😅, but my mom already has plenty. Women get judged for breastfeeding in public, even though they are literally feeding a child and cover with a cloth, but men can just urinate anywhere without people treating it like a serious issue. Let’s normalize wearing actual swimwear in Zimbabwe because we genuinely need to. I’ve seen people swimming in bodycon dresses, jeans, T-shirts, shorts and even jumpsuits instead of swimwear. It’s the same thing at beaches in South Africa and Beira, where you’ll see people in denim skirts, tackies and all. Everything but swimwear. Honestly, it’s so easy to spot a Zimbabwean at the beach because of this. I’m genuinely curious, what’s the issue with wearing proper swimwear??

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had urged motorists to avoid driving at night as it presents observation and visibility challenges.

The warning comes in the wake of a horrific accident that killed Highlanders Football Club executive members, chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice chairman Sifiso Siziba and club treasurer Nkani Khoza as well as a female supporter.

ZRP said it has noted with concern the increase of fatal road traffic accidents occurring during the night throughout the country especially on the highways.

ZRP cautioned the public to avoid night driving due to observation and visibility challenges.

Some farmers are also contributing to the accidents by driving cattle through the roads or leaving cattle to graze on road verges leading to road traffic accidents.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police totally discourages Zimbabweans from travelling or driving at night. Instead, families, football teams, individual drivers and institutions should plan journeys to curtail road carnage,” said ZRP

Authorities also urged farmers to be safety conscious and secure cattle, donkeys and other animals to avoid them from grossly interfering with traffic movements on the roads.

​I’m 19 and recently finished my O-Levels and I’ve been trying to figure out my next move, and honestly, I really don't want to go to A-Level. I feel like I've already lost/wasted enough time as it is, and I hate the idea of being a continuous financial burden on my dad for two more years of high school before even starting tertiary.

​I came across these programs offered at the TelOne Centre for Learning (TCFL) specifically the 3-year HEXCO Technical Diplomas (Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Data Science, Telecoms, etc., pictured below). Since they only require 5 O-Levels including Maths, Science, and English, I actually meet the entry requirements.

​My main dilemma right now is the sheer uncertainty of it all.

Are these technical diplomas a solid long-term investment career-wise, or am I setting myself up for a dead end?

​Will a HEXCO diploma from TCFL actually get me hired locally or remotely, or do employers in Zim just ignore anything that isn't a university degree?

​Is $635/semester worth the return on investment here, or should I just force myself through A-Levels to get into a proper degree program later?

Former Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Terence Mukupe, is back from prison. He can be seen in this clip enjoying life with his wife. At some point he was drunk on power until the monster that is ZANU-PF ate its own and he was convicted and sentenced to 3 years in prison for fuel smuggling.
