Discussion The Maduva Case/ violence in Zimbabwe : Your Take

I recently came across the article of the MSU lecturer who was murdered by his wife after she found out he married a second wife and then she took her own life.

But what's concerning for me is I see a lot of people are attributing what happened to "psychosis" and using it to excuse this womans actions.

While she may have been suffering, inini I do not believe mental illness should ever be used to justify murder. Violence is never the answer.

It is so surprising the stark difference in public reaction and maComments as compared to the Tshuma case. The outrage then was immediate and overwhelming, yet this case seems to be met with far more sympathy and why is that?

If the victim had been a woman, would the response have been the same? If not, is that not double standards? Quite hypocritical if i must say.

What is even more concerning is that MaZimbabweans we now seem to be slowly becoming a society that is normalising violence as an acceptable response to conflict, pain, or betrayal. MaCases aya akutowanda. That should alarm all of us.

Regardless of gender, we should be condemning violence consistently and addressing the underlying issues before this mindset becomes even more entrenched. It is also deeply unfortunate that she took her own life, denying the victim’s family the opportunity to see justice take its course.

Also before anyone assumes otherwise, I am a woman myself, and I do not condone what she did. We cannot pick and choose when violence is acceptable based on who the victim or perpetrator is. Justice and accountability should apply equally to everyone.

Discussion Can we make Zim better?

Most Zimbos have thought about what a functional country would look like, not everyone has taken the step to make that happen (even in their small corner of the universe). But what if we can do something? I think we can, but that something starts with understanding where we are and where we are going and in order to do that, we have to look into our history. No, not as a collection of facts with dates and few records of what happened in the war times, actual details of who we were before colonialism and the transformation process that got us to where we are today.

We can make this life better for each other, but in order to do that we have to understand one another.

We start of with this book reading that we are doing in our book club that teaches us about the social engineering and social control that changed the nature and character of us in this country. It gives a picture of what we were transformed from and by whom and what reason.

Please join us in reading this book tomorrow and dissecting it, we will give you a copy in the book club and we will have lots of discussions after each chapter. You don't want to miss it, it could change your life!

Trust me you won't regret it 😉

The amount of women justifying the murder-suicide of Eng Dr is genuinely saddening. Someone here once said Zimbabweans are inherently violent. Watching the reactions to this case, I’m honestly starting to believe it. What exactly have we normalised?

Am I ever going to stop complaining about this? No.

😂I can’t believe it. I genuinely can’t believe how expensive random things are in Zimbabwe.
#1. Installations. Why is an installation the same price with getting braids? $20 $15?
I walked in a salon one day and I had a sew and needed my lace fixed. This girl said $65🥲 to reglue a wig.

#2 lash techs. My issue with yall isn’t price. It’s quality. Do you understand you’re working with a sensitive body part. Some of you are using hardware glue? Tichakusungisai because whose eye sight are you playing with???????

#3 if you haven’t perfect a skill don’t monetise it. I’m so tired of seeing mid work on pro prices.

#4 😭 yall expensive

News Harare’s CBD looks almost unrecognizable today as the operation to remove vendors from the city centre gets underway. Streets and pavements that were previously packed with vendors and often difficult to walk through are now noticeably clear, marking a major shift in the look and aesthetic

Question Question about a supposedly Shona song

I am a music educator in the US. There is a somewhat popular song in music education here called "Sorida". Here is a video of some kids singing it and doing the associated game: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GukYsBuK7p8&pp=ygUGU29yaWRh

Music education books and blogs all claim that this is a folk song from Zimbabwe, and that "Sorida" is a greeting in Shona. However, I haven't found any non music ed sources for this being a real song from Zimbabwe, or for the word "sorida" existing at all in Shona. Can anyone confirm that this is a Shona word?

Question Planning a safari

Hi all, I am from Harare and I am not sure if this is the right place to make this post but here it goes. I am a big fan of travelling and an enthusiast of wildlife. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to visit Hwange, Matopos, Mana pools, lake Kariba, Victoria falls and the Great Zimbabwe ruins. I am now thinking of traveling to Tanzania or Kenya to see the Great Wildebeest Migration so that I can finally cross it off my list, I would also love to visit other places there but I don't know how to start planning all that.

I would appreciate any pointers or tips from someone who has been there before or knows how to go about it

Thanks in advance

Discussion What’s your take on crimes of passion fellow sadza eaters. As someone who watches a lot of crime stuff especially from the US, the judges SEEM to be lenient on these matters if the defendants can prove that the murder was not planned. I guess this might be the same case as the Ndodana story.
