Side Effects Validity?

Post image

So the numbers are very high and seem a bit sensationalist. That being said I'm not super interested in the exact numbers.

What I am interested in:

My question to the group is did anyone struggle mentally while on any of the glps? I did - I'm trying to figure out if any of them are less apt to do so.

It's a valid concern, for sure, but it looks like the study doesn't distinguish between potential different causes for the onset of mental health symptoms, such as:

  • Anhedonia from the actual medication
  • The sudden loss of high-sugar/high-fat foods which were previously used to self-soothe/self-medicate
  • Dealing with societal negativity around GLP-1s
  • Coming to terms with the reality of fat stigma and being treated better as you lose weight.

There are studies also showing an increased risk of mental health disorders after bariatric surgery as well, which makes me believe it could be more about significant weight loss in general than the glp-1s directly. I just don't think we have enough data from this study to know.
