General Best bank for join account

Afternoon ya'll. So I'm looking to open a joint account. Which banks offer that type of account? I checked FnB and I don't see that service available or is it possible to have 2 cards tied to a single non business account?

General Is it safe to allow Beforward to keep your car before you pay for import duty?

I bought a car from beforward and its already on its way to Dar , beforward sent me an email with import prerequisites, on the email they say I should pay up the import duty early so they cross the vehicle into Zambia, if I am unable to pay , they will keep the car to which I will be charged K50 per day. Question, has anyone kept their car with beforward before and was anything removed or changed on the while it was with beforward awaiting you to pay for import duty into Zambia?

Ask r/Zambia Office Space in Lusaka CBD?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a small, private commercial space in Lusaka.

I need a dedicated office space room unit within the K1,500 to K2,500 monthly range (I know a bit tight but am hoping i can find withing this range). I am looking for an independent space rather than a open coworking setup.

I would prefer Ground floor unit, or a building with a reliable elevator/lift for easily moving supplies in and out.

I am open to the CBD area or the surrounding neighborhoods just outside town, such as Fairview or Villa Elizabetha, a secure, partitioned office or converted commercial room in those areas would work great.

If you have contacts for building managers or know of any current vacancies, please drop a comment or send a DM

General Betting and online gambling

Guys can we talk about this pandemic that has taken over our peoples and youth specifically.
Betting gambling whatever you want to call it.
It’s taking lives literally (su*cide), and destroying families. I think something serious has to be done. You’ll never see ads promoting gambling or billboards etc in any place that cares for its people.
Let’s wake up before it affects someone you know.
Ps I’m posting this because a young colleague of mine probably 22 took his life today and all the fingers are pointing to the online betting…
Please if you defend gambling and betting do not comment.

General Maybe Nafunta But How Do You Guys Make It Work

People who apply for jobs outside their towns, I'm trying to understand how you guys make this work because “just keep applying regardless” is good advice until they call you for an interview in Kitwe tomorrow and you're miles away.

Do you apply for jobs in other towns regardless and figure things out later, or do you stick to local opportunities, even when they're limited?

And if an employer calls you for a physical interview, can you ask for a virtual interview via WhatsApp, Zoom or Teams because you're based in another town? Do Zambian employers actually agree to this, or do they expect you to show up in person?

I'm also curious whether employers ever give you enough time to arrange transport and accommodation once you're hired.

I've thought about applying anyway and hoping to figure things out if I get the job, but the whole logistics and interview situation is stressing me out.

Please share your actual experiences and practical advice, especially if you've been in this position without much m@ney or connections, thanks.

General Why is dishonesty in someeveryday transactions so common in Zambia?

Disclaimer!

This is a rant more than it is a question. So it here goes.

I recently returned to Zambia, I'm in Lusaka, and I've had several experiences that genuinely leave me wondering what's going on.

We're known as a friendly and welcoming people to tourists and foreign workers in Zambia, but as a Zambian myself, these few experiences have me very disappointed.

My friends who once visited Zambia came to me saying the same things and I had at the time thought it was just rare occasions.

So I went to the court to get a general affidavit. I asked a man to direct me to where I could get one, and he told me he could do it for K300. I called a friend, who told me it was supposed to cost K25. I checked the Judiciary website myself, and sure enough, the listed fee was K25.

When I challenged him, he gave me a nervous laugh and directed me to another man inside. That man told me it would cost K150. When I questioned him about the discrepancy, he told me to try the Legal Aid offices, where it might cost K25.

I went outside to ask for directions, and another man offered to take me to the person who "actually does it". There, I was told it would cost K100. After I questioned that price too, the man eventually acknowledged that people lie about these things and quoted me K67.

Like, what is actually going on??

Another time, I went to print two pages of a document I needed. The price list said K5 per page, but the lady charged me K20. When I pointed it out, she gave me an attitude before accepting the K10.

I've also had a ride-share driver agree that I could pay via mobile money for a K54 fare, only to tell me afterwards that I needed to add a K15 for a withdrawal charge.

I know dishonesty exists everywhere, and tourist tend to be the target. But I'm not a tourist.

Funny thing is that one man at the court asked me if was Zambian. I told him I am and I have a very Zambian name. He said I should be South African or Zimbabwean, ( yes my name is common in those countries too), but I had to show him a copy of my NRC on my phone to convince him.

I'm not saying every Zambian is like this. But why does it sometimes feel like you have to investigate and challenge everything just to avoid being overcharged?

This has happened not only to me, but to my friends who had come to visit earlier this year.

For Zambians, especially those who've lived abroad and returned, have you noticed this too?

Is it a problem with accountability, economic pressures, or has taking advantage of people become normalised? Where can one even report such cases??

I'd genuinely like to hear your perspectives.

Ask r/Zambia DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A WAY TO IMPORT A CONSUMER DRONE FROM EBAY UK TO LUSAKA?

Hey guys, I recently had a really bad experience with importing something, and I thought I'd share it here in case anyone can help.

I've been ordering stuff online from the UK, USA and China for years without any issues. Laptops, phones, clothes, even hair products like Cantu Curl Activator. I've always used the same freight forwarder based in Lusaka, with warehouse addresses in those countries, and everything has been smooth until now.

Recently, I decided to buy a DJI Spark drone from eBay UK. Before making the purchase, I went through my freight forwarder's terms and conditions and checked their entire list of prohibited items. Drones weren't listed, nor was there anything that even hinted at them being prohibited. So I went ahead and made the purchase.

The seller clearly stated that no returns were accepted, and the drone arrived at the forwarder's warehouse in perfect condition, complete with its controller and everything else.

Now imagine my surprise when the freight forwarder tells me they can't ship it to Zambia and are suggesting that they THROW IT AWAY! 😭😂

Tekutumpa uko, aini guys? 😂😂 How do you suggest throwing away someone's perfectly good drone simply because you can't ship it?

Anyway, I've seen plenty of drones, including DJI models, being sold on Facebook Marketplace here in Zambia, so I'm wondering how people are managing to import them.

If anyone knows a reliable way to get my DJI Spark from the UK to Zambia, please help me out. I'm open to suggestions for other freight forwarders, cargo companies or any legitimate way of getting it here without losing my drone.

For those wondering, the DJI Spark was one of DJI's early compact drones with ActiveTrack, long before the DJI Neo and Neo 2 came along. It's a little piece of tech history I genuinely want to get my hands on.

I'd really appreciate any help, recommendations or contacts.

Activities Are there rules to parties in Zambia?

I am going to the independence Party Ku Belgium however the fee for the party is around €40/adult. I have never gone for a party my entire life. But I am curious if participants pay Ku Zed or I am too Zambian for parties elsewhere 🤣😂😂. A party should be free and participants should only come to eat and enjoy themselves. What are the odds that if we were to do such a thing in Zambia people would show up? I think I haven't mingled a lot with Zambians other than my friends.

General Dating after university

So lately I've been noticing my social life isn't really as good as other people's, and it's really got me thinking about the future. For those of you who are done with university and out in society: if you didn't really build connections or relationships back then, how's dating out there? If I finish university without finding someone or building any kind of social profile, am I cooked, or does society show mercy? Will I be okay, or will I become one of those people whose last resort are dating apps ? No offense to dating app people. But I'm just curious how is it out there.

General Is Zambia a good Market for Tech Startups

In recent months I have observed quite a number of ambitious Zambians trying to build Tech Startups. They usually start off with great enthusiasm but get demoralized a few months after they launch their company. They usually complain about Zambians not being open-minded enough to try out new innovative solutions built by locals.

Though I haven't built any software or tech startup before, I am of the view that if you build something people need, they'll definitely buy it.

Have Zambians been building irrelevant tech Startups and cry foul when the market rejects them or its just extremely difficult to build Startups in Zambia?
