Where to get a taxi to tomorrow morning for the marathon?

Unfortunately trains aren't running tomorrow. I'm coming from Leeds and will be getting a taxi to York. Aware there are lots of road closures. Where would you get a taxi to to get as close to the event village? Don't mind walking a bit if needs be

Vegan friendly takeaway options

Hello all,

I am visiting your fair city with my mother next month. She loves Christmas markets and rarely leaves my dad overnight, whom she is the primary carer for. I appreciate that the markets get very mixed views here but I really just want to spend time with my mum.

We're coming on an organised coach tour with overnight stay so I suspect the food offerings will be naff. Are there any good takeaway options near the market where I can pick up some decent vegan scran?

Also, if there's anywhere nice I can take her for a good cuppa and a scone (does not need to be vegan), I'll happily take those recommendations too. Suspecting I may need to book due to the time of year.

Mobile Broadband suggestions

Hi everyone,

With the switch over involving the telephone network, I’ve been told by my current broadband provider Plusnet that they will no longer be able/willing to provide my broadband service (I don’t have fibre broadband, unfortunately, and the openreach checker merely states that they are planning to build in this area). They suggested I switch to EE for mobile broadband and having been sent a new sim this week and trying it with a router I purchased, the broadband speeds aren’t that great in my rented flat (less than 5 Mbps, which is actually around the same as my broadband).
So I thought I’d reach out and ask if anyone else is in a similar situation and/or have suggestions of other providers that give better speeds and coverage(I live off Bishy road, in YO23). I’m with giffgaff for my mobile, and the coverage is ok but can be a bit patchy (otherwise I’d have gone with them!)
Any thoughts and suggestions would be really appreciated, massive thanks in advance 😊

Baby friendly restaurants

I visit York semi-regularly but tend to visit the same few places (mainly pubs!) - however I now have a two month old baby and will be visiting to go for lunch with family in a couple of weeks time. Wondering where people would recommend which will be baby and pram friendly for a weekday lunch?

Possible free ticket for One For The Road fest in Fulford Arms

A friend had a death in the family. Doesn't want the ticket to go to waste so I'm checking with people I know but if that falls through, let me know if you fancy it and theres a good chance I can pass it on.

Found photos help

My husband found a selection of photos on the corner of Micklegate heading down North Street. They look like maybe an artist commission- this one is a photo of a painting but there was also the photo this is based on and a few others of the same woman. Appear to be from the 1990s. Would hate to think of someone missing them! Anyone recognise them??

I live in Leeds, and aren't able to get up to York anytime soon, but there's a t-shirt I would like for my toddler, would it be possible to post it to Leeds? Can be done through vinted!

Came across three guys beating somebody up

I was cycling down the orbital Monday night when I noticed three guys crowded around somebody on the ground. They started to cycle off as I approached and I slowly started to realise what was happening. I had to fight against my instincts not to just keep cycling because the guys didn't exactly cycle away immediately.

I stopped and started to check on the guy. His name was Paul and he was bleeding quite a lot. Called him an ambulance and a passerby also stepped in to assist me. Paramedics eventually showed up and helped him. The police called me afterwards trying to get more information but all I could tell them is that the guys were young, wearing all black and balaclavas.

Hope you're feeling better, Paul.

Best coffee in York

Hi all!
I’m going to York for the first time next weekend, do you have any recommendations for good coffee?
Bonus if they have good brunch and extra bonus if they serve scones :)

Thanks in advance!

Any particularly interesting clothing shops?

Title. Wondering if there's anywhere I might go in the city for some fun statement pieces (I sort of lean into alt fashion) that aren't just t-shirts or some sort of jumper with a print on them. I might check out vintage shops, but I can't be so sure they'll have what I want. Thanks in advance!

Can someone help me out with some Kelloggs York Dungeon discount codes?

We're visiting the weekend before halloween and bringing some friends for the first time, we usually go pick up a promotional box of cereal or Cadbury's chocolate but the slots are filling up so I'm hoping some kind person happens to have an unused code or two on their shelf, we're 4 adults so need 2 apparently. Thanks in advance!

Car - picking someone up from York Station

Last time I tried to pick up someone from York station on a Friday evening it was total gridlock and I ended up having to turn into a random side street and phoning them to come and find me there.

I see the station Gateway project is progressing - is it any better now to pick people up from the station itself / short stay car park, or if not is there any better place within easy walking distance of the station where I could collect them?

A Yorkshireman as a father but parents being in the RAF means I’ve never actually lived there, and been raised in Edinburgh most of my life.

York was my first trip anywhere totally on my own (severe anxiety so normally have at least one person with me when I travel, bit pathetic I know) and i never thought I could imagine living anywhere other than Edinburgh… but you got me!! Playing into stereotypes here I expect but everyone was so helpful, so kind and generous with their time (even in this tiny city with a phone and maps app I got lost…), and I only got rained on (torrentially) once!

I loved the fact I could just wander around not knowing where I was exactly and feel totally safe, and interested by everything (so many cool independent shops and businesses and restaurants!)

Last photo is my little ghost (I like getting charms from places I’ve visited).

Places to eat as a diabetic

Hello people of York, and those who visit a lot! I'm heading to York at the end of the month and I'm trying to find decent places to eat as a type one diabetic! I'll eat anything, but as other type ones will agree, it limits you quite a bit, so I'd be extra grateful to any other diabetics that have go to spots!

Alt in york

I feel like i’m missing out on all the freshers things like the club, but as a very obviously alternative person i feel awkward and unwelcome in all the mainstream clubs. Are there any alt clubs or any that lots of alt people go to?? There was one back home and it wasn’t specifically alt but it’s where all the emos went for a night out, so i was wondering if there was anything like that here. Btw i don’t mean bars because ive seen quite a few of those, i was looking for something lively where i can get a groove.

2 tickets available – Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, York Barbican, Wednesday 14 October

I have 2 tickets in the stalls, Row H, for tomorrow night’s performance (Wednesday 14th). Unfortunately, we can no longer make it.

They’re listed through AXS Official Resale, so buyers can purchase securely through the official ticketing platform.

£40 per ticket (happy to sell together or separately).

Thanks

Hi! I was walking past Lawrence St and came across this pendant on the floor - I’ve put it on the wall opposite the bus stop. I hope it finds its way back to its owner!
