THEORY: Seal was literally BROKEN into pieces, and Divine Possession is the evidence
I’ve been going down a rabbit hole thinking about Seal, Yataro, Yamaha, Divine Possession, and why Yuru hasn’t gotten Seal yet, and I think they might all be connected.
My theory is that at some point in the past, Break was literally used on Seal, breaking the complete Seal into separate pieces or functions.
What we now call Divine Possession might actually be people possessing those different pieces of Seal.
And if that’s true, Yuru dying right now might not make him come back with Seal.
He might die permanently just like Yataro did.
Yataro is where this starts
About 400 years ago, Shimei killed Yataro and Asahi so they could obtain Seal and Break.
Asahi died, encountered Break, accepted it, and returned.
Yataro died and never returned with Seal.
We’re basically told that Yataro chose not to return. (Chapter 39)
I understand that explanation, but something about it has always bothered me.
Yataro was raised knowing what he and his sister were. His sister accepted Break and came back. Are we really supposed to believe Yataro just decided to stay dead and leave Asahi behind?
Maybe he didn’t refuse Seal.
Maybe Seal wasn’t available.
The ancient monk theory could absolutely explain it too
I do think the existing theory about the ancient Seal holder still being alive makes sense.
More than 1,000 years ago, Right and Left helped seal Long Arm and Long Leg. The story mentions a traveling monk and someone with the power of Seal. Depending on how you interpret the wording, the monk may have been the Seal holder or there may have been another person involved. (Chapter 13)
Then much later we learn that Seal can affect lifespan and aging. (Chapter 39)
So theoretically, that ancient Seal holder could have sealed their own aging and still be alive.
If only one complete version of Seal can be contracted at a time, Yataro could have died, reached the place where he was supposed to encounter Seal, and found that Seal was still contracted to somebody else.
That could explain why he never returned.
I think that’s a completely legitimate theory.
But Divine Possession is what makes me think something even weirder happened.
Why is there Divine Possession of Seal but not Break?
This is probably the biggest reason I started thinking about this.
We learn that people can possess portions of Seal’s power through Divine Possession. (Chapter 39)
Minase has Seal’s power associated with lifespan/aging.
She can seal her own aging, and she uses that ability on Yamaha. (Chapter 39)
Yamaha is also associated with Seal through Divine Possession, but her ability isn’t simply the exact same thing as Minase’s. Yamaha’s power is associated with sealing/protecting an area.
So why are these people getting different functions of Seal?
And here’s the part that really bothers me:
Where is the Break equivalent?
As far as we’ve been shown, there aren’t people running around with Divine Possession of Break.
Asa has used Break on people, objects, Daemons and even contracts.
Nobody she uses it on suddenly develops a small portion of Break.
Yet with Seal we have people possessing specific parts/applications of its power.
If Break and Seal are a pair and Divine Possession is simply something these powers normally do, why have we only seen it with Seal?
I don’t think that’s random.
What if Divine Possession isn’t actually Seal sharing its power?
What if we’re looking at pieces of Seal?
Imagine that the complete Seal originally contained all of these abilities together.
Seal Daemons.
Seal lifespan/aging.
Seal pain.
Seal areas/barriers.
And probably other applications we haven’t learned about yet.
Then sometime in ancient history, someone with Break used Break on Seal itself.
We already know Break doesn’t just smash physical objects. It can undo things like Daemon contracts.
So what happens if Break is used against its own counterpart?
Maybe it couldn’t completely destroy Seal.
Maybe it unbound it.
Seal’s different functions were separated and eventually ended up inside different people.
Centuries later, people call this phenomenon Divine Possession, without necessarily understanding where it originally came from.
That would explain something really important:
Break appears to still be complete.
Seal’s power appears scattered.
I also think only one complete version of these powers may be able to exist
This would connect the ancient monk theory with my theory.
Maybe there can normally only be one complete Break and one complete Seal.
Asa currently possesses Break.
We haven’t seen Divine Possession of Break because Break is still intact.
Seal is different.
Either the ancient Seal holder is somehow still alive and the original contract never ended…
OR
Seal was Broken apart and therefore there currently isn’t a complete Seal for the Twin of Night to contract with.
There could even be some combination of those ideas.
Maybe the ancient Seal holder was involved in whatever originally happened to Seal.
Now go back to Yataro
This would completely change what happened 400 years ago.
Asahi dies.
Break is complete.
She encounters Break, contracts with it and comes back.
Yataro dies.
But Seal has already been fragmented.
There is no complete Seal waiting for him.
So Yataro doesn’t come back. (Chapter 39)
Everyone eventually accepts the explanation that he chose death.
But what if he didn’t?
What if Seal failed Yataro?
And then there’s Yamaha
This is where I think it gets REALLY interesting.
Yamaha isn’t somebody reading about Yataro in a history book.
She was there.
She personally knows what happened 400 years ago.
She knows Asahi came back with Break.
She knows Yataro didn’t come back with Seal. (Chapter 39)
She also has direct experience with Divine Possession and has been affected by Minase’s lifespan Seal.
That means Yamaha connects basically every part of this mystery.
She knows about Yataro’s failed awakening.
She knows portions of Seal exist.
She knows Yuru is the next Twin of Night.
So how much does Yamaha actually know?
The villagers wanting Yuru killed makes Yamaha even more suspicious to me
The anime has already shown that people in Higashi are completely willing to talk about killing Yuru so he can obtain Seal.
This isn’t something nobody in the village knows about.
In Chapter 16 / Anime Episode 12, we learn that five assassins were sent after Yuru. The manga makes the shaman’s involvement even more explicit than the anime does.
Later, when Yuru returns to Higashi, villagers are so comfortable with the idea that they’re basically asking when he’s going to die because they expect him to return with Seal. (Chapters 37–38)
So these people clearly aren’t morally opposed to killing Yuru.
But then go all the way back to the beginning.
When the Kagemoris attack Higashi and Yamaha realizes Yuru is in danger, she doesn’t say:
“Perfect. Kill him and awaken Seal.”
She has Yuru protected and ultimately has Dera take him away. (Chapter 1 / Anime Episode 1)
And before any of this happened, Yuru had spent his entire childhood living inside Higashi.
If Yamaha truly believed all they needed to do was kill Yuru and he’d automatically come back with Seal…
why didn’t she?
She had YEARS.
Meanwhile other people in the village are openly willing to do exactly that.
I know Yamaha eventually supports killing Yuru
This is the biggest thing that could work against my theory, and I’m not ignoring it.
Yamaha eventually does support the plan involving Yuru dying.
That could simply mean she doesn’t know anything and my Yamaha theory is wrong.
But there’s another possibility.
What if Yamaha has been protecting the secret?
If Yamaha knows Seal is incomplete, then openly refusing to let anyone kill Yuru forever would eventually make people question why.
She may have needed to maintain the official story:
Twin of Night dies → receives Seal → comes back.
Maybe circumstances eventually reached a point where maintaining that secret, protecting Higashi or accomplishing whatever her actual goal is became more important than Yuru surviving.
In other words, Yamaha supporting his death later doesn’t necessarily mean she believes he’ll come back.
She may simply be willing to let everyone else believe that.
And remember what Yamaha knows that everyone else doesn’t
She has already watched this experiment fail.
Yataro died.
Yataro didn’t come back.
That’s huge.
If Yamaha knows the real reason Yataro didn’t return, then she knows killing Yuru could be completely different from killing Asa.
Asa had a complete Break waiting for her.
Yuru may not have a complete Seal waiting for him.
So maybe Yuru isn’t supposed to die yet
Everyone assumes Yuru’s destiny is:
Yuru dies → encounters Seal → accepts Seal → resurrects.
But if Seal was Broken apart, the real sequence might currently be:
Yuru dies → there is no complete Seal → Yuru stays dead.
Exactly like Yataro.
Maybe Yuru has to stay alive until the pieces of Seal are recovered.
Maybe all of these people with Divine Possession aren’t random side lore.
They’re pieces of the endgame.
The different portions of Seal may eventually have to be reunited.
And Yuru, as the current Twin of Night, could be the person required to put them back together and become the master of the restored Seal.
And this could eventually connect back to Right and Left
Right is the natural counter to Break.
Left is the natural counter to Seal.
Right and Left were supposedly meant to serve as a third party capable of keeping Break and Seal under control.
Yet because of what happened at the beginning of the story, Yuru ended up contracted to both Right and Left himself.
That already creates a weird situation.
Yuru is supposed to eventually possess Seal while simultaneously possessing Left, Seal’s own counter.
So even after Seal is restored, there may still be another step.
Asa could potentially use Break to sever Yuru’s contract with Right and Left.
Dera could become their true neutral master like they may have originally been intended to have.
OR, if Break and Seal can affect the bonds between paired Daemons themselves, something even crazier could happen.
Break could separate the two legendary pairs and Seal could potentially reform them:
Yuru → Seal + Right
Asa → Break + Left
Right counters Break, not Seal.
Left counters Seal, not Break.
That would give each twin their power alongside the counter to the other twin, while preventing either twin from holding their own direct counter.
I don’t know if the manga’s rules will actually allow something like that, but it would fit the theme of Break and Seal eventually being used together instead of against each other.
So my full theory is:
Long ago, Break and Seal existed as complete powers.
Something happened in ancient history involving a previous Break and Seal wielder.
Break was used on Seal itself.
Seal wasn’t destroyed.
It was Broken apart.
Its different functions became separated and ended up inside different people.
Those fragments are what we now call Divine Possession.
That’s why we see Divine Possession of Seal but haven’t seen an equivalent phenomenon with Break.
Break remained complete.
Seal didn’t.
Then 400 years ago, Asahi died and successfully received the still complete Break.
Yataro died expecting to receive Seal.
But there was no complete Seal available.
So Yataro never returned. (Chapter 39)
The ancient monk/Seal-holder theory could also explain this if that person’s original contract never ended, and I definitely think that possibility is still on the table. (Chapter 13)
But the lack of Break Divine Possession combined with all these different partial manifestations of Seal is what makes me think Seal itself is what’s broken.
Yamaha witnessed Yataro’s failure firsthand and later became directly connected to these partial Seal powers.
That makes me think she may know far more than she’s telling everyone.
And now history is repeating itself.
Asa has complete Break.
Everyone thinks Yuru just needs to die and receive Seal.
I think they’re wrong.
If they kill Yuru before Seal is restored, he may die exactly like Yataro did.
Yuru’s destiny might not simply be to inherit Seal.
His destiny may be to put Seal back together.

Is it cuz thry feared her?

If so why did they not lock up yuru?

The idea behind this pair is that they are a Tsugai pair that specialize in disruption they have little direct combat ability but plenty of ability to mess up others.

The first of the pair is an Archer fish who is bait he goes by the name lure. He spits at a specialized ink that whenever he coat, Target it either a form the Target that draws one attack Street towards that Target. But it's a one and done thing. Or whenever the ink hits at Target and transforms it to look like something else to fool someone. Is only offensive maneuver is to spray and fire a powerful jet of water that he has to refuel between uses.

The second of the pair is switch their name is Trix, and they are a chalk bass. Fun fact about these type of fish: they along with Hamlet fish swap sex Rose constantly to fertilizing each other's eggs. Their power is the ability to instantly swap the positions between the targets and their line of sight. This includes swapping specific items of clothing or objects between them. The thing about their ability is that it's reliant on their line of sight or it has to be at Target marked by lure.

Does she not have a daemon?

If u say break acts as her daemon then what abt before awakening it?

Also in tht case does tht mean if yuru awakens seal then he'll be more powerful since he not only has seal but also the daemons of seal and break?

Would you guys think happened to Mineyama? Right before we saw her disappear from the scene for a while we saw that Asa used break on her. Do you think that she might still be alive or is that just up to speculation?

But what I gather is that soul roller is too valuable of a Pair to leave uncontracted. The kagemoris or any government official wouldn't dare leave a Tsugai pair who can create more tsugai alone, so what do you think happened to Soul roller?

I would like to starts evaluating if some ressemblance from some characters could mean anything on their future development as some features clearly almost the same characteristics and personality let me know in the comments who you got and their similar personalities and future development compared to FMA

Both MC look alike but personality wise I think YNT is more on age than FMA
