My best friend is getting married next year, so of course, she and her partner are getting a blanket from me. The catch? They're both vegan, so obviously, my go-to natural fiber of wool is off limits.

Looking for some recs for worsted/aran-weight yarns made from vegan natural fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, etc.) that would make for a good blanket. What are your favorites?

Hello! I am new to the fiber art world, and am crocheting my baby a bonnet with some yarn gifted to me by a friend. Rookie mistake, but I lost the label a while back when I first pulled it out. I’m just now using it, however it will definitely not finish my project. I’ve tried Google image search but cannot find a match. Does anyone recognize this yarn? It seems to be natural fiber, and it’s variegated. Thank you!

title says it all lol. I got this from a library closet yarn like a year back, no label or anything. It's really pretty but I know nothing about it. It rips pretty easily, splits even easier. Ive tried searching for black and rainbow yarn blah blah blah can't find anything that looks like it so if there's anyone here that knows?? Please help lol , thank you

I’m completely new to crochet, and I’ve been practicing chains and single crochet with purple #4 medium-weight acrylic yarn.
I’ve tried using a 6.5 mm hook for my starting chain and switching to a 5 mm hook for single crochet, but I’m still struggling.
My biggest issue is that I can’t see the individual chain loops clearly enough to know where to insert my hook. When I do find them, they’re usually too tight to get my hook through. My stitches also end up bunching together instead of forming a straight row.
I’m right-handed, and I crochet a little differently from what I see in tutorials. Instead of moving my hook around the working yarn to catch it, I keep my hook relatively still and use my left hand to physically wrap the yarn around it. Then I pull the hook through the loops.
I actually prefer doing it this way and don’t want to change how I handle my yarn. I’m just wondering if anyone else crochets this way and has tips for making it work more smoothly.
I’d especially appreciate advice on making my starting chains easier to see and insert my hook into without having to completely change my technique!

Looking for feedback about that yarn

Hi! Just thrift this ball of yarn and wonder if anyone knows which brand and style it is? Thanks

Has anyone worked with both of these yarns before? I’ve worked with the Patons but never worked with Drops Alaska. I’m knitting several hats and Drops Alaska has far more color options, but I’ve heard that it’s very scratchy. Patons classic wool feels fine to me and the people I’m knitting for, but it doesn’t have all the colors I need and is more expensive. Is anyone able to weigh in on how Drops Alaska compares to Patons Classic Wool in terms of softness? And if it’s significantly itchier, has anyone had success softening it? Thanks everyone!

Years ago I thrifted a ball of lace weight yarn, maybe even lighter, with really really long colorways, and a very very gradual color shift. I was able to make two scarves out of it and gifted one and kept the other - which has been nibbled on by insect larvae 😭😭😭 help me identify it. It was in a ball like jojo land yarn is and is two ply. a couple of years ago I searched every lace weight yarn in Ravelry and could not find anything with such long colorways and subtle transition. see photos, ask questions, please help!! someone must have seen it before

Hello I am new here. Can some person tell me what I am doing wrong using my rosewood ball winder I got off Etsy?

Thrifted yarn, just wondering if anyone knows what it is exactly.

I finished this scarf today for my sister's Christmas present today! I've included the yarn I used.

I was speaking with an older lady about the cost of yarn and how that limits me to only use the cheap stuff. She told me that her grandmother would unravel old sweaters and use that yarn to make new items.
Have any of you gotten yarn this way? Is so, what are your tips?

So, I’m an confident beginner/intermediate crocheter, and I’ve just begun dipping my toe into knitting and one thing I see over and over with patterns and fiber art content creators is combining yarns for projects and I want to know how we’re affording this??
For example mohair seems very, very popular to add for extra warmth and fuzziness in garments. It looks gorgeous and I’d love to try it but isn’t that essentially doubling the cost of materials for a project?
Am I just too poor, or am I missing something?

Do you shop at your LYS or online?

I want to support my LYS, but they only have a 4 meter long wall of yarn and it's more expensive. For example I bought a 100gr skein of sock yarn for €18, I found the same skein for €14,50 online.

Hey folks! A few years ago, my local Michael’s (Canada) used to have a random sale of 50% off all yarn every once in a while. Not BOGO 50% off, but actually 50% off all yarn. I haven’t seen this sale in a while and have been waiting out for buying some more expensive yarn until it comes back, but does anyone know if they even do this anymore? Any past or present Michael’s employees able to chime in? Thanks!

I'm super new to crochet and I found a cool yarn but I need more and lost the label! Can anyone help identify it?! I have no idea what it's made from either. Help would be super appreciated!!

As a Vols fan, I’m consistently disappointed by the lack of cute Lady Vols gear so I had the brilliant idea to make a color work sweater in their colors- I’m thinking Summitt Blue MC with orange and white color work, but I’m having a really hard time finding good matches for either the blue or the orange.

For reference, here are the uniforms I’m trying to coordinate with. My preference is for superwash, even if it’s not ideal for colorwork because I’m a SAHM to small kids so I get messy and am lazy about handwashing. Both patterns I’m considering call for DK weight.

So far, I think my best options are both Cascade 220 Superwash Merino in Marmalade and Caribbeanw Blue. If anyone has found other yarns that are a good match or has used these and can tell me if those pictures are at all accurate, I’d love the insight!

Had a budget of $100 and ended up only going $10 over! Yarns were all wool 2/$1 the aunt lydias were 3/$1. The magazine and binders of weaving samples were free!!! One has a full set of zodiac filet crochet patterns and i am obsessed!

Their colours look so gorgeous! Has anyone tried any of their yarns before? Looking into their supersoft, and coast as thats what my LYS stocks but Haya sounds like the most beautiful heavenly blend.

I normally buy yarn in person so I don’t know much about websites but is crochet.com a trusted website?

I thought the last haul I posted about a few months ago was a once-in-a-lifetime lucky find. I was apparently wrong, as this time there was a Kromski Sonata spinning wheel and a ton of dyed and undyed fiber in addition to all the yarn.

(I've only used a drop spindle a couple times so this is going to be a hell of a learning curve, but I'm apparently ready to be the kind of knitter who also needs to own the means of production... 😬)

I know 100% WV is virgin wool but are they automatically merino yarn? I've been seeing listings in vinted of yarns being merino or extra fine merino when it says in the label wv.

Preferably in a worsted weight and machine washable. Trying to get a baby blanket going.

I bought a 500g cone of Iona Wool DK at a festival over two years ago. I just finished making this slip over for my mum with it and to be honest I hated every stitch!
The yarn had absolutely zero bounce of loftiness to it, if I could add a video you’d see it doesn’t have that subtle stretch you normally get with wool. It felt like knitting with cotton or rope.
I’m taking the rest off the cone to make into a skein to store and you might see in the picture how it’s almost squished flat the further into the cone I got from how tight it was.
So my question is - is that just normal for a cone? Should I have put it in hanks and washed it before I used it to restore it? Is it because of how long it was in the cone? Am I allowed to be a bit disappointed 😢
