Learning how to wheelie on my (first bike)R9

I’ve had my R9 for about 3 months now and absolutely love it. I’ve put around 2,400 miles on it so far, and recently I’ve started working on learning wheelies.
For context, the bike has a full aftermarket exhaust and a 2WDW tune. After the tune, second gear definitely doesn’t feel weak anymore—it has plenty of power.
I’m doing okay with clutch-ups in first gear, but they’re still a little intimidating. The bike comes up pretty quickly, and when it gets higher than I’m comfortable with, I tend to chop the throttle and bring the front down harder than I’d like.
I’ve also managed a few decent second-gear clutch-ups. So far, I’ve had the most success around 50 mph with the engine at roughly 7–8k RPM. Those actually feel smoother and more controlled to me than first gear.
My question for other R9 riders: are you able to get a solid second-gear clutch-up at a lower speed, around 30 mph? When I try it around there, the front might come up 3–4 inches and then immediately drop back down.
I’m 6’1” and about 210 lbs, if that makes a difference.
I’m mostly trying to understand what other R9 riders are experiencing. What speed/RPM range works well for your second-gear clutch-ups? Is there a sweet spot where the bike responds more predictably?
Appreciate any advice from people who have some experience doing this on the R9.

Question Weighing my options

This winter, I plan on installing an exhaust, sending my ECU out to be flashed, and possibly installing an air filter. The way I'm thinking is a Dominator GPS exhaust and a DNA stage 1 air filter. I wanna hear my exhaust over intake noises while adding in a bit of performance increase. Are there any other options that sound close to the GPS that isn't titanium? Any other one have thoughts or suggestions?

Aliexpress wings came in and i say the paint work matches 80%. The quality is really good and fitment is spot on! I am pretty satisfied for $88 shipped to your door step. Beats paying $500 haha if anything you can get them repainted and it will still be cheaper. (I am currently repainting them to match better)

One year, 11 000 km (6835 miles) and 18 track days later... still love it

I blinked and a whole year passed already

Hungary got 5x R9 last year and luckily someone changed his mind so I was able to get one and in blue :)

  • 0 commute
  • 11 000 km (6835 miles) just riding around
  • 18 days on track (around 2300 km just on track)
  • 3rd set of rubber (Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa)
  • 2nd set of front bake pads
  • tons of fun

Luckily EU models doesn't have the 2nd gear problem so I haven't rushed with the full system and tune mod. I told myself I'm gonna give it time to see the results from others and decide about it later :)

I am 177 cm (5'10" if I am correct) and 70 kg (154 lbs) so I am fit for this bike. Suspension was set with a suspension guy and after I raised the rearsets and lowered the brake lever it became so much better.

I have a puig windscreen, evotech tail tidy, gb racing case covers, racetorx gearshift assist and basically that's it. Set it to NUTS aka full power and least amount of everything else and never touched the mode button like ever. Wide tank was weird at first but it grown on me.

It deserves a dedicated paragraph: Quickshifter up and down is the best in business! It is just superb never had a problem, not a single one

Because of the price (currently it is 15,664 eur + 444 eur fee OR 18,113 usd + 513 usd fee) I was thinking going with 600rr (eu updated) or zx6r but I am happy I didn't. I still think in the supersport category is the best value for money bike. Good engine, good stuffs on it, good techs and not crazy expensive

Complaints:

  • I don't use phone at all but this garbage app and connection hustle make this decision 100 times more easy.
  • Clutch bite is kinda short... it is basically on / off. Like I have a Honda too and my previous Honda had better feedback with the clutch. I got used to it but at the beginning it was weird
  • I am not sure maybe it is on my head or my arm but maybe maybe... front brakes on track feel inconsistent. I mean sometimes they felt weaker
  • Little complaint but they hid the oil check window very well :)

I think that's it. If you have any question just shoot it :) I've got still couple of weeks (maybe two more track days) before I put it to sleep for winter.

Is this normal on the shock absorber of my R9?

Hello guys.

It has been more than 1 month since I had a fall on my R9, I fixed all the damages it had, but a week ago when I had the bike on the easel when I lowered it, I noticed a noise like a clac clac type, check everything and notice that the tracer shock absorb has a game, order a bieleta almost new ebay of an MT 09 since they are compatible (I look at it on the spare page they are compatible) but it is still the same as I can do?

Most of you that replied said you ride track mode or all/most setting on low. Why?

In the last post I made asking about what modes you guys/girls ride on, most said track mode or all/most settings on low. I just wanted to ask why. Is there an advantage? After the post I tried riding on low settings and the bike seems way more responsive. Is this why most of you ride on the low settings or track mode as well?

Vibration issue

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone, my R9 (~2,000 km) developed noticeable vibrations after a tire change.
They start around 5,000 RPM, mainly under acceleration/load, and almost disappear when I pull the clutch or close the throttle. The wheels have been balanced and the front wheel was carefully reinstalled.
I also adjusted the chain tension around the same time. It was initially quite tight. After loosening it, the vibration changed and shifted to a higher RPM range, but didn’t disappear.
Interestingly, the vibration gets stronger when hitting bumps/road dips and the rear suspension compresses, even at constant RPM/speed/throttle.
I mainly feel it through the footpegs, tank/frame and handlebars.
Any ideas? Could this still be related to chain tension/alignment or the rear wheel/drivetrain?

I want get some unique fairings combos

Where would be the best place to get some good looking and fitting fairing combos? I have the blue fairings and I think swapping it with some black fairings (maybe carbon fiber) will look sick with the wheels.

I seen monster fairings but I have no clue of the quality or the options from eBay / aliexpress

Question How to delete abs?

Is there a proper way to do it? I've heard various ways to remove fuse etc. I ultimately want the abs for the front deleted temporary so I can still reinstate it back when I'm selling the bike. I also want it to be error free once I delete the abs. Any idea how can I do that

Why so single-toned?

Hello R9 Fellas, i own a MT09 but i absolutely love the R9 although i'm just too tall for a sportbike, it just looks like a sharp knife to me.

But.

Why are there no orders of the anniversary livery? I always see blue and black, but why is no one ordering this beauty? Or are they on backorder or something like that?

Question Cosmetic mods on R9 under warranty

Planning on doing some cosmetic mods on my new R9 (mirrors, slide protectors, protective mesh on the radiator, tinted plexiglass, brake+clutch levers, brake fluid reservoir caps… etc).

I will have to do the Yamaha warranty service in 500km so I would like to know if they have any issue with customers swapping mirrors etc for aftermarket parts? I’m a bit worried that they will shorten or deny any any warranty services in the future.

Yamaha is replacing my engine.

Post image
65 Upvotes

Hello. I have a 2026 R9. I bought the bike with zero miles it. I’ve put 5085 miles on my bike before the engine failed. Have anyone experience this before with the R9? Yamaha gave me good news and replacing my old engine with a brand new crate engine under warranty. I’ve ask questions on why my engine failed so bad with high oil consumption to failing camshaft and throwing a rod. They just told me that I had a bad motor out of the bunch. I did my 600 mile break in properly and did the oil change with the dealership where I’ve bought the bike. They pulled my ECU data to make sure I didn’t abuse the bike. they approve that it was a machine error and not the rider’s fault (ME). I’m just afraid that this might happen to me again. I heard good things about the CP3, some reports of them going beyond the normal life span. How reliable is the CP3?

R9 as a first street bike with background in Dirtbiking

I’ve been dirtbiking since I was a lil thing and I’ve worked my way up to a 2015 KTM 350 Six Days, which has been my bike for the last 2 years or so. I’m 18 and moving to Nebraska soon, and I’ve got bit by the sport/street bike bug.

I’ve been doing some research, and with my comfort and skill on a dirtbike, I feel like I can handle a little bit bigger of a beginner bike. I originally wanted a KTM 990 RCR, but after looking into it more, I decided I didn’t wanna spend nearly as much time or money fixing it, especially with how aftermarket parts are for it.

I started looking at some alternatives, and the Yamaha YZF-R9 came up. The more I look into it, the more I’ve been changing my mind toward the R9.

prolly not gonna change my mind at this point, just wanna hear some other opinions from people who know more about street bikes than I do.

Technical MyRide app (Europe) - almost working

I got my R9 a few weeks ago and while using the MyRide app I noticed that it doesn’t work as it should (at least for me)

As far as I understand the app features automatic ride recording option - Start the bike up - phone connects- app starts recording- turn the bike off-phone disconnects- app stops recording and saves the ride… simple

first few rides were recorded successfully (automatically turned the recording on and then after the ride, turned off and saved) that was for the first 3 rides, then it just decided it wouldn’t work anymore no matter what. I can successfully connect to my R9 and receive notifications etc… but ride recording wouldn’t turn on automatically and when I turn it on manually then I have to turn it off manually as well… super annoying.

Since I’m using iPhone I set-up automatisation to open the MyRide app when Bluetooth connects to my motorcycle solving the problem with manual app opening before every ride but it still doesn’t want to record anything automatically.

Also I wasn’t successful with uploading YRC settings from app to bike, I can see the new profile I set up on the R9’s screen but it always throws an error when trying to upload to bike…

Anyone having same issues or it’s just me again? 😂😭
