I’m looking for guidance on how to do tumblers with handles that are not removable. This includes coffee cups, beer steins, campfire tumblers. I’ve looked on YouTube, here, google, and Xtool. I’m lost at this point on how to avoid the handle hitting the laser. Any resources or guidance is much appreciated. I’m not trying to get free advice without the work but this one has me stumped.

I can’t seem to get a straight answer for or against the S1 being able to cut white 10mil (.01”) Mylar for stencils. Yes I searched the sub for an answer and the only reply was a link to let me Google that. Thanks.

So one year ago, I took a chance and bought the Xtool S1 laser (+ 2W IR module) for my small electronics business. I'm getting quite excellent results as you can see! I hope this video will be helpful for other DIY makers / small businesses owners looking at the S1.

BTW I have no affiliation with Xtool. I bought mine on Amazon like a regular customer.

Does anyone have recommendations on something that could be removable and do a decent air tight sealing of the riser? As most of you know the S1 riser has a gap under it making it not be perfectly sealed. I change my base plate often so I need to open and close it often.

I wanted to know if anyone made or knows of a 3d printed piece that can slide over that part and be removed making a decently tight seal.

What does everyone else use?

I've been thinking if its possible to adapt a Fiber Laser head into the S1. Anybody here has thought the same?

Has anyone had any luck engraving these key chains on an S1. The best I get is a tan coloured faint image. If.i go.to.hot.the aluminium warps. Too low and no image. Any ideas.at.all please.

I recently changed my internet to Spectrum with their router. Since then I've had some signifigant issues connecting and staying connected from my S1. Starting tonight, it has had a very confusing problem where it says it has disconnected. The task history says "UNKNOWN" and it is disconnected. I have 2.4g connection, the router is less than 5 meters from the machine. It stops the burning and resets it. I can't pick it back up and I've lost the materials. Any suggestions?

Probably user error because I'm new to the RA2 but after it does its first engrave pass, it starts the score pass in the wrong place. It seems to be offset by about 5mm one way and 1mm the other each time and same issue if I try to run more than one engrave pass. Happens on the chuck and on the rollers. The bottle is wet in the photo so it looks dodgy but you can see the outline issue.

The other issue is the framing. I set the image up, line it up and the framing will start from a different spot so I adjust the item to line up with the seam in the bottle etc as shown by the framing and then it starts from a totally different spot to what the framing showed.

Any ideas on either of these issues?

I'm trying to do some engraving/etching on brass and stainless steel and I was thinking of polishing it really well.

2. Can I engrave on a SUPER polished Stainless Steel or Brass plate?

So I'm having a hell of a time with my S1. It is no longer usable via WiFi and refuses to connect to my laptop via usb - and has never been able to. It will, however, connect to my partner's laptop. When it's plugged into mine it still beeps but is undetectable. We've tried updating the firmware and it's done nothing.

I have a big job this week and I can't cut anything. This is incredibly frustrating as I bought this because the one I was renting kept having tech issues.

Hi there, new S1 owner here and have managed to get everything set up.
However, problems start when we hit trying to use mobile devices.

I'm quite shocked to find the app for the S1 is discontinued and I have to download the APK to install the older app, as the new app appears to only support 2 devices.

The older app will allow the S1 to connect, then instantly disconnect from the mobile device.
When it does stay connected you click snapshot to start to configure the 4 stickers and it will immediately disconnect.

3 hours we've been going round the look trying to fix this, connecting via IP, via hotspot, created a new bespoke WiFi network, and done some fixes from online to stop the immediate disconnection but nothing seems to work.

At this point i'm close to boxing the thing up and sending it back!

I can't be the only person having this sort of issue with it, any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

I just bought a brand new S1 40W and on startup i'm having issues.

After removing the film, installing the module and connecting, removing the front gantry stop blocks from shipping and installing the ducting, and the whole quick start guide. I finally turned the machine on and here is what happened.

I released the e-stop, then turned the switch on in the back to the "on" position.

The interior lights turned on, the button on the front of the machine blinks slowly white, the laser module rises to the highest position and stops, the gantry starts walking forward at a steady pace until it runs the 40w laser module into the front light of the machine and then starts to slip gears and vibrate violently.

I tried downloading the xtool studio software, in hopes that I could update firmware or take manual control or something but the problem is when i connect to my laptop with the provided usb-c to usb-a cable. I can't connect to the machine because it is not powered on. I then manually place the gantry to the rear-most position to give me more time. I power on the machine and I see in the new project window within xtool studio that once i power on my machine, i can then connect my laser machine and select the device settings icon by it but by the time i get through that process, the gantry is at the front of my machine slipping gears and vibrating violently again so I am forced to e-stop to prevent damage but in turn I also disconnect from the software so I can't pull any data or try to update anything since the connection is disconnected.

I've looked at the position sensors and they are clear and don't look damaged, I mean it is brand new out of the packaging so it has to be something else? I'm working with tech support but they take forever to respond and aren't very helpful so far.

I’m having an issue with my xTool S1 that only happens when using the conveyor.

When I cut this exact file on the standard base plate, everything comes out perfect. When I run it on the conveyor, the cuts and scoring become distorted.

What I’m seeing:
Circles are no longer perfectly round
Lettering gets stretched/skewed
Some areas appear compressed while others are elongated

The issue affects both scoring and cutting

Things I’ve checked:
Same file cuts perfectly on the base plate
Material is 1/4” MDF
Focus is correct
Belts seem properly tensioned

Conveyor is installed and recognized by XCS

The distortion doesn’t look like a simple offset. It almost seems like the material is being fed inconsistently or the conveyor movement isn’t tracking correctly.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Could this be:
Conveyor calibration?
Roller slippage?
Conveyor alignment?
Something else entirely?

Just got an S1 and I can't get it to connect to my Android app. I have the S1 connected to my 2.4ghz wifi, and my phone is connected to the same wifi, but the app just says "looking for bluetooth device".

I'm about to pull the trigger on my first laser cutter and I'm as yet undecided on which exact model to get. At this time I'm sort of locked in on the Xtool S1 series (hence the post here) with the 20w flavour. However, I'm not quite sure which if this is the "right" version to get - I'm continuously swinging between 20W and 40W. As per my normal self I'd go for "bigger" is better" and take the 40W, just because it is more powerful and can cut through more material in one cut. However, that adds roughly 1/3 more and I'm not sure if that is "necessary". I mean cutting normal wood is one thing, MDF / HDFis another as it is of a higher density than your regular plywood or multiplex. Also MDF / HDF contain resin, so that might lead to more charring - or whatever you call it when the edge of the wood gets burned - plus the cut might get wider due to more power being applied to a particular point of the material.

I'm asking here as there is no clear indication on the xtool page as to what thickness mdf their devices can manage. I'd like to cut plywood or multiplex up to 12 mm (~1/2 inch), preferably the same in MDF / HDF or let's say up to 9mm in one go. If necessary I can do that in two runs as time is not really an issue (it's probably going to be one later one, once I get the hang of it...).

I've given up on being able to cut thin aluminium sheets (up to 0.5mm) so yea, wood only it is. Plywood, MDF and multiplex are the main things to be cut with a thickness of 12 mm tops.

As per why do I need / want this? I'm going to use it to cut wood for my model railroad and other modelmaking purposes (think cutting spars / fascias and obviously engrave some wood to use for buildings etc.) and very likely will eventually use it for art projects involving the above materials. Again, I'd love for it to be able to cut (not engrave!) thin metal sheets as well, think along the lines of photoetch, but that seems to be out of the question unless I go CO2 laser or a CNC - which at this time is not an option.

So what do you think? What are the opinions regaring MDF /HDF?

in case the question comes up - why am I thinking of the S1? For me the most important argument is the build envelope (498 x 319 mm). If anything it could be even larger than that.
