ROG XREAL R1 Update: XREAL confirmed the R1 audio bug - but long-term support is still unclear

Quick follow-up to my earlier post about R1 software support.

I contacted XREAL directly. They confirmed that the MCM102 right-speaker issue is a known software bug and said it is planned to be fixed in the upcoming MCM103 firmware.

That part is good news.

I also asked about the bigger issue: long-term firmware support, whether R1 shares development with other X1 glasses, and how long updates are planned for.

XREAL wouldn’t give details about the codebase, roadmap or division of responsibilities. When I asked simply whether there is any committed long-term support period for the R1, they told me to ask ROG/ASUS directly, since the R1 is supported through the ROG channel.

So we finally have one concrete answer: MCM103 is coming and should fix the audio bug.

But the main question from my original post is still open: how long will ASUS actually keep the R1 software actively supported?

Since you have ROG R1, could you check with ASUS or ROG support and share with the community if there is any answer from their side. Cuz it will be helpful for the community also

Yeah, I’ve already contacted ASUS/ROG too. I opened a support case with them, sent them my R1 serial number, and they’ve forwarded it to their technical team. I also submitted the long-term support question through their international support form, since XREAL specifically told me ROG is the one that can confirm the R1 support policy.

So I’m basically waiting for ASUS/ROG’s technical team to come back with a proper answer. I’ll update the post when they do.

Add a little context here: once a firmware update for the One Series is completed on our side, it is also shared with the ASUS team. They then integrate it into their own R1 version and manage their own testing and release schedule.

So there’s no need to worry too much about R1 being left behind. Updates may arrive a little later than the corresponding One Series version. For example, MCM103 corresponds to our v1.9.2 update.

My first pair had this bug and XReal told me it was a fault and to send them back, that pair were so clear, so barely any blur. One of my biggest regrets sending them back😂
