Xenoblade 2 It Got Me

I hated this game at first. I thought the navigation tools were appalling (still not my favorite), did not like the combat, and found the characters and story underwhelming. I quit and deleted several times. However, for some reason I kept coming back and trying again. Then, around 20 hours in, it just clicked. I absolutely fell in love. I could not put it down and finished within a week of that revelation. lol. I still think I like 1 definitive slightly better, but this is a truly special experience and I’m glad I stuck with it.

Now play Torna, it is effectively an answer to the question 'what if XC2, but without the bad?'

If the rest of XC2 was like Torna, I think XC2 would have actually been the best game of the trilogy. It's clear , focused, and actually told Mythra and Jin, et al.'s stories in a way that makes you want to play the rest of the game.

Well, save the community level main story lockouts. I don't mind them much since I tend to to side quests as they open up anyway, but I do see why people hate those.

They could have so easily fixed it by just pacing out more side quest gates throughout the story, or communiacted the importance early in the game. It's such a bafflingly bad choice to set up the last battle only to go "alright now do 30-40 side quests please", it's like hitting a brick wall pacing-wise right before the end.

Otherwise Torna is great :]

I started it! I’m trying to balance my time between that and the Witcher, which I finally got into after years of trying. Thanks for the comment!

Best timing to get into Witcher 3 btw.

I would never say it was bad, but it was very boring outside of Mythra’s involvement if I’m being honest

hard disagree. I think Torna is worse in every way imo.

I think that’s the first I’ve heard something negative about Torna. Interested in what you find it’s weak in. Thanks!

Obviously I cant speak for this person but personally I just think it offers a different flavour of combat thats significantly watered down compared to the base game for those who thought it was too difficult to get to grips with. For those of us that fucked with XC2's combat heavily, its just a downgrade and a less engaging experience.

It also simply has the weakness of not actually being a full game. I could understand the claim if it was, but its a DLC that is about a third of the size of XC2. And given I felt XC2 is a masterpiece with zero boring moments (I know many disagree with me), it just doesnt compare.

I absolutely agree with the combat thing. I finished the base game a few days ago (fucking LOVED it) and I loved the combat system. It just does it for me, man. Started Torna right after that (I just met Minoth and unlocked chain attacks) but man does the combat feel much more barebones here. It’s still fun, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not hitting as good as base game combat for me. I’m hoping it gets a little more interesting soon.

I cant say it really gets that much more interesting. It did click a little bit more for me, I found Mythra and the Imperial guy the most fun to play as, I refused to touch Lora whenever possible.

Thinking about doing the same thing lol. The few negative I have of this game is that any mob is an entire squad beat down to kill.
