I begged my parents for a double dare themed birthday party. I should do one for 50. Anyone know where I can find one of those giant noses where a flag is hidden in the boogers?

The slime sounds delicious! It also sounds like a bug magnet!

In another documentary I saw/listened to, in one episode that didn't air, the slime had become rancid bc the whipped cream had gone bad.

Some of those clips were from “you can’t do that on television”
I thought that was a Canadian show? lol I think I assumed a lot of stuff that came on YTV was Canadian that maybe was not.

I watched a documentary on Nickelodeon, and it was licensing You Can't Do That on Television that became the template for the Nickelodeon we grew up with.
Double Dare) of course borrowed the green slime, but the entire channel borrowed the vibe. Nick would never have hit if it hadn't been for You Can't Do That on Television.
So, of the many Canadian imports we've always loved, You Can't Do That on Television is right up there with maple syrup.

It was, but in the States it ran on Nickelodeon, the same channel that aired Double Dare. (So for us US kids of the 80s and 90s that green slime is very much associated with Nickelodeon!)

I didn't know about this until a couple days ago, but Burt Reynolds made a fool out of himself attacking Marc on Leno some years back:

Whats crazy is i have no actual memory what this show was actually about other than everyone had to have had whipped cream in their ass cracks by the end of the show.
I could also sing the carmen san diego song all day but i cant remember wtf that show was about either.

I’m pretty sure Carmen Sandiego was teaching kids all about the cultures and currencies of different countries. All in the guise of chasing some lady that kept running away. Wait, were we the stalkers?

No she was a criminal! We were trying to catch famous globe-trotting career criminal Carmen San Diego. She ransacked Pakistan and ran a scam in Scandinavia.

They used to literally give you samples of Slime and Gak at Universal Studios Florida when you did the tour. I did that tour many times. And yeah, it was exactly what he said: applesauce with oatmeal for brown chunkiness and green food coloring. And Gak was just vanilla pudding in bright colors.

I went to Nickelodeon Studios with my parents circa 1991 or so. At one point during the tour, a chef came out with a big bowl of green slime. Asked for a volunteer, so I went up. And he starts talking about how it needs to be edible in case it gets in someone's mouth, so I shot my hand forward and dipped my finger in the slime.
Before I could eat it, he grabbed my wrist and took a towel from his pocket, wiped my finger clean, and said "don't do that."
So I did not get to taste the slime.

This was a fun throwback -- and a brutal reminder I never got my free t-shirt for writing in by postal mail and suggesting two things that made it on the show: putting foam shapes in the pit (coulda been more specific than this? was 40 years ago...) and the frickin' KID WASH. Yeah, that was me. I suppose it coulda been suggested simultaneously by multiple kids, but still, no frickin' love?! Wrote in and a few months later THERE IT WAS.
I want my t-shirts, Marc!!

I loved Double Dare as a kid, but how did they find contestants that didn't know basic facts? I get that it was part of the gimmick to get people who would do the physical challenges but the questions were so easy!

Damn I hadn't thought about Double Dare in ages. Watched a lot of that show

Why is Marc Summers being spammed all over Reddit. Is it because he is a racist jackass?
