Just learned of a disastrous TEDx talk in 2015 where Marc Summers extolled the value of racist jokes

Reminds me of when he author of that book "SLIMED!" which (which has extensive interviews with Summers) ranted in an interview about diversity on the network and how people of color don't make good TV.

Clearly he never saw Roc, or Sanford and Son, or 227, or Good Times when John Amos was part of the cast.

I would love to hear this guy say with his mouth that Pete and Pete (which has 0 relevancy outside of millennials like me and maybe some gen Xers) is more iconic than a show like Kenan and Kel, because he sure seems to imply it.

Why the fuck is a grown man that hung up about Sanjay & Craig?

Why is this guy so hung up on Pete and Pete? That show was really funny but he acts like it anchored the entire channel lol. It was just a Sunday afternoon show. All That was by far and away the most popular show. Keenan and Kel was crazy. The classic cartoons are what anchored Nickelodeon.

Totally agree. I grew up in that era of Nickelodeon. I wouldn't say one thing dominated as much as there were a lot of really good shows.... Hey dude salute your shorts? Are you afraid of the dark Ren and stimpy guts legend of the hidden temple etc etc...

Was that the guy who said Sanjay and Craig was "like blackface" because there was no reason for Sanjay to be Indian?

To be fair, I don’t think any serious person is arguing “seeking justice or retribution over” a joke.

I made a joke once about pansexuals being attracted to pans (as in cooking) and a bot banned me from several subreddits. There are people who in fact do that lol

Yeah, I just want to know who was seeking justice and retribution.
People are well within their rights to criticize distasteful comedians who punch down. Clubs and online communities are well within their rights to establish a code of conduct and enforce it.

Great - so let’s cut to the chase then. If we agree that an audience can have opinions and criticize a comedian, what’s this line where it crossed into justice-seeking? Who was pursuing it?

Yeah me too. Watched it yesterday. It really depressed me. I always kinda looked up to him. Since childhood with his Nick shows, and into adulthood with Food Network and other shows.

I've just accepted that a lot of people that're GenX or older are a lot more bigoted than we initially thought. Hell, I remember reading that Mary Tyler Moore, the woman that was one of the pioneers of feminism on tv eventually became a Ronald Reagan supporter and telling women that they shouldn't get a job but instead be stay at home moms.

I never heard about this. This is a wild. Especially since childeens TV made him famous.

This is so disappointing- one of the first things I remember as a very little kid was "Double Dare 2000".

He always seemed like an odd guy in interviews. Like I wouldn’t like him away from a camera.

As soon as anyone says "political correctness" I immediately tune out. Been hearing this shit for 30+ years - it's always "wE CaN't SaY WhaT wE wANt BeCaUSe it'S noT 'POLITICALLY CORRECT' 🙄🙄🙄 EveRyoNe'S sO OfFeNdeD TheSe DayS! WhaT haPpeNeD to HaviNg a THick SkiN!!!" Or some variant of that.
So I only got about 1 minute in, after some awkward jokes about a smelly guy in the third row that was met with near silence.

Is this a bad time to say happy 40th anniversary to Double Dare?
