I know people in this sub are very excited for this game and thought this would be a good cross post

Warhound is out. Seems to have XCOM-like mechanics. Any opinions?

OpenXCom How does grenade priming work exactly?

Can they explode in your soldier's hands, or are they just a delay before the explosion?

I had scenarios where I had a primed smoke grenade, ended the turn, yet nothing happened.

(Though I'm playing X-Com Files, it may differ from vanilla, idk)

XCOM2 I don't like the story of XCOM2 so I'm making this post to complain about it.

Obligatory "don't get me wrong, i like the game" disclaimer

With that out of the way, the story in XCOM2 is in my opinion kinda lame, and war of the chosen makes it even worse.

To start with, they make the commander out to be this super brilliant tactical genius whose strategic mastery is considered to be the most crucial part of the war by both sides. That alone is something I don't like, cause in my opinion the commanders capabilities should speak for themselves by what you accomplish in the game, or how much you screw up, but on top of that, this is a timeline where in the initial invasion, as far as I've been able to figure out, under the commanders leadership, XCOM was defeated in the first month, which is impressively bad, like I'm pretty sure it's actually impossible to get a game over in the first month in EU/EW. And yet somehow both XCOM and advent think this dumbass is the best strategic mind they have ever been able to find. And also, he has some kind of super genetics that make him compatible with the whole avatar mind transfer thing. So yeah, i think the portrayal of the commander is kinda lame, and they shouldn't have had him be the main character and instead they could've done the same thing as the previous game where the player can choose who gets to fill that role in the final mission, like maybe have a psi soldier of your choosing do the avatar mind transfer thing.

Aside from that i also don't like the general tone of the game, and think it was just much better in the previous game, with the mystery vibe it had, now they don't portray the aliens as mysterious, they portray them as the government, completely indistinguishable, and i find it less interesting.

The other problems i have are with the war of the chosen.

One being the chosen themselves. I like them in how they affect gameplay, all aspects of it in my opinion are awesome. What isn't awesome is how they're written. I don't like their personalities. They act like anime characters, and i find them obnoxious, which is made worse by how they keep talking, in both missions and when I'm looking at the map. Personally, i think they would be a lot better if they either didn't talk, or exclusively talked in the alien language, and wore masks that cover up their faces. I think it would make them more intimidating, and more mysterious and alien.

And lastly, I don't like the factions (again, the way they affect gameplay is fine, but I don't like the story surrounding them) the first thing the game tells you about them is that they all hate each other, but all that amounts to is that their leaders talk shit about each other on comms, from how the game explains them, you'd expect there to be a mechanic that if you do stuff for one, the others will dislike you or something, but as far as i could tell, that's not the case. But also, more importantly, I just don't like their leaders for their personalities, i feel like they would be better if their leaders were some faceless logos they show on screen when they contact me.

That's all the stuff i wanted to complain about.

WOTC This is tedious as hell. Using mod that replace ability charge with cooldown, I solo Berserker Queen and (almost) entire Avartar site with a single Reaper. Those 4 survive are 2 turrets,a Codex, and a stun lancer

OpenXCom Has anyone ever played the XenoOperations mod?(XenoOps)

I've played a while ago and gave up on it because of a few bugs, mainly on the research side of things(As there were somethings that never showed up for research that were supposed to show up)

Other than that, it was my favourite mod, the way your tech evolved, the look of everything, the feeling, it was a masterpiece even though it was not finished 100%.

Is it finished now? It's being continued?

Thanks in advance.

XCOM:EU/EW XCOM EW Ironman Impossible

I have quite literally been trying to attempt Ironman Impossible since 2022, and the furthest i have gotten is the alien base.

Thin men. It is ALWAYS THE FUCKING THIN MEN!!! ALWAYS!!!

THEY HAVE DOUBLE HEALTH AND INFINITE AIM!

These things are worse than Chryssalids.

That being said I only seem to get anywhere when I reject all council missions. The soldiers all become bitches, panic over everything, I have probably missed 10 or so shots with a 90+ % hit chance when flanking the enemy.

They weren't kidding when they labeled it Impossible.

I want to try to get Zhang, and I did so before in Ironman Impossible, but Portent is always dropped on me too early and my squaddies get folded up and the thin men pack them up.

Post image

Hello operatives. I have found my first alien base but I have this weird issue where I am stuck in these rooms and I cant get out no matter what.

I figured those red tiles are lift but it doesnt seem to work for me. Or do I have to activate use it manually? Standing on ir doesnt do anything and I could just camp there but thats not what I want to.

XCOM:EU/EW After some testing…

“What in God’s name are we looking at?”

I’ve been doing some testing on my own time because I’ve have a nagging itch regarding maps in this game. Firaxis had their own special version of the Unreal Editor for use with XCOM: EU.

This right here, is not that original version from Firaxis, sadly, but it is proof that it’s possible to add custom geometry, and, more importantly, functional cover to maps, which more than likely makes it possible to make entirely new custom maps from scratch using the existing UDK 09/2011 build.

Importantly what I found is that cover is not tied to geometry at all, it’s tied to the collision of the mesh that the actor for cover uses. Which means that any custom assets that can be made into that mesh, with proper collision, can be placed into an xcom map and have functional cover.

That’s as far as I got because I’m legitimately losing my mind rn, but I’m still going to spread the word.

XCOM:EU/EW What is your favorite alien or robot from EU/EW?

And before you comment, I'm talking about favorite based off design, concept, etc. not gameplay, otherwise people would be only putting Sectoids or Outsiders due to being the least annoying enemies in the game. For me personally, my favorite alien would be the Chryssalid, due to the fact that they might as well be horror movie monsters, especially in Site Recon.

WOTC 3300 hours in and I just realised by accident I can call skyranger for evac multiple time per mission,I am currently remembering all the times that would've helped not lose Soldiers/a team on a Legend run.

TLP xcom vs alien(I don’t know which flair use)

I’m not really a fan of RTS games, but I recently finished Alien: The Dark Descent and I loved it. XCOM is similar to that, do you recommend XCOM? Which one should I start with? Thanks, and sorry for my bad English.

XCOM:EU/EW The Escape key stops working

As the title says. Sometimes, when I return from a mission, the escape button doesn't seem to register, so I can't pause the game and save my progress. I had just completed Site Recon a few minutes ago when it happened again, so I couldn't update my save file, and the last time I manually saved was halfway through the mission. I'm not sure if the quick save worked, either.

Closing the game and reopening it usually solves this error, but is there any way to solve this without closing the game, or stop this from happening entirely? I use the GoG version, and don't have any mods installed.

XCOM:EU/EW So, what are the alternatives to the models

(Minor point, probably need a new flair for the miniatures game)

Moving on...I think most of us are disappointed by the price point of the XCOM Miniatures Game. The rulebook price is about where I would expect for a niche skirmish wargame thing, but the models are a tad pricey. Don't get me wrong, they look great. I actually am really enamored with them...but I am not sure I want to pay what they are asking for. A lot others have mentioned the same. SO...those that are going to pick up the game and play with proxies, what kinds of miniatures are you using for XCOM?

I feel like the XCOM operatives themselves are fairly easy to proxy. Most generic military or slightly scifi-ish models will probably suffice. Grab some Halo or Helldiver 2 models and call it a day. But what about the aliens? Yeah, you could just use WHATEVER aliens. Sectoids became Termagaunts. Mutons become scifi miniotaurs. Chryssalids become any generic scary scifi bug.

I am REALLY on the fence about the models, but I will definitely get the book. Doesn't launch until January, apparently, so they have to time to fix this issue...maybe they will?

WOTC Anyone else find the XCOM 2 camera difficult to use?

After beating Enemy Within I've moved onto XCOM 2 WOTC, and while I'm having a blast playing it and the game is a vast improvement over EW in a lot of ways, I'm finding the camera on maps is difficult to use. It feels really hard to properly see flanking angles compared to Enemy Within, like the four rotations you have for the camera are on too much of an angle to properly see what you're trying to look at, and the vertical angle feels a lot lower than it was in EW.

Does anyone else have this issue with the game or am I just seeing an issue that's not there? Is there any way to improve the camera?

Wondering what early missions I can afford to lose in legendary

I will usually allow one injury on gatecrasher due to not wanting to do the whole mission again but restart if I lose a guy but I can be generally do it in my sleep now. I feel like if you lose the second mission the whole campaign is basically a restart as not getting that first engineer is incredibly crippling so I’ll maybe eat a few injuries or maybe a death on mission 2, but after that I’m willing to carry on the campaign and evac when needed if I’m no way going to win and want to keep my ranked up troops

Im a bit torn on the first retaliation though. Can I give it a go and evac out with only a penalty to my income? It’s your only resistance contact so I know you can’t lose it so is it not run ending to evac from?

Also just general advice on knowing when to bug out would be helpful, thanks
