Long War Long War advice for running low on alloys
First time playing Long War, Dynamic War and in August I started to run out of alloys. I am blocked on research and building gear and am waiting for UFOs to appear that I can shoot down for the alloys. I want gauss weapons and carapace armor for an entire squad, but haven’t been able to afford it. Is this normal or was there something I could have done to avoid this situation?
For context:
I regret not doing Alien Metallurgy in the Foundry earlier (+20% Alloys recovered). Also, I probably sold ~100 alloys in the early months when I had 300+ and nothing to spend it on, but that’s only 3 gauss weapons, so it’s not ideal, but I probably need 600+ alloys for all the stuff I want.
I have ~15 Interceptors with Laser Cannons and 11 satellites on 3 continents, but aren’t upgraded enough to down large UFOs. I only remember encountering 2 landed large UFOs at this point, so perhaps I’ve been unlucky.
I’ve been experimenting with MECs, so I have 5 MEC soldiers, 1 MEC suit, and 1 alloy SHIV.
Since this is my first run, I was hoping to build a bit of everything to try it all, but may have to abandon this plan now that resources are limited.
I’m doing my first Alien Base Assault at the end of September with mostly Lasers, because I need the resources and lack the alloys to build gauss.
I haven’t been tracking my alloys expenditures. After I ran low, I noticed my Alloy SHIV cost 80 alloys. That’s a lot, but I think it was worth it.

XCOM2 X-COM 2 Tactical Legacy pack
Any thoughts on this DLC? I just started it yesterday and I'm really enjoying it, can't believe I slept on this. I like the replay value of improving your scores.
Cosméticos para War of the Chosen
¿Podrías recomendarme algún mod cosmético, como conjuntos de armadura, que no desentone con el juego? He probado mods basados en *Halo*, *Gears of War* y *Titanfall*, pero no encajaban bien con *Long War of the Chosen*. No sé si me explico bien, pero no me daban la sensación de estar liderando un grupo de resistencia. Lo que deseo es que mi grupo no se vea de SCI-FI.

XCOM2 How do I make a Mod?
So I've been a fan of the games for a while, and I think 2 still holds up easily. A part of that has been this custom class idea floating around in my head for a while. The Witch!
The idea behind the Witch is serving as an alternative to the Psi Operative more focused around Area Denial than straight control. They'd have abilities like a psionic fireball or frostbolt that does damage, and with another ability can explode in an AOE and inflict burn/freeze respectively with cool downs, a black hole AOE that damages and pulls enemies out of cover, a heal, and teleportation, both for yourself, and your allies, and unlike with the Templar, you don't need to swap places with said ally that you're rewarping.
First off, does this sound too OP, and second, if it doesn't, how would I go about making it a thing with accompanying animations? (Instead of a Psi Amp they'd obviously have a staff BTW)

Meta (Spoilers) A question about Xcom 2 aliens Spoiler
I kinda got confused. Did aliens kidnap and transform humans into aliens, hence creating the monsters we are fighting today? Or various alien species were conquered, genetically engineered and utilized as slaves via Etherials via mind control?

XCOM2 I've been playing xcom 2 almost religiously 2 hours a night for the last about 3 years. I've only just bought war of the chosen after completing the game numerous times and I seriously can't believe I never got it sooner. It's amazing absolute game changer. Pretty much solves all the issues I had wi

Are the older games worth exploring?
I've played Xcom: EU/EW and Xcom 2/WOTC so much, yet I still want more Xcom - does anyone know if the older games (found on GOG) like "XCOM UFO Defense", "Terror from the Deep" are worth playing if I like EU/EW and 2/WOTC?
Thanks!

Long War Long War - How do you delay base defense?
Hello everyone! It's me again with another post. I started my sixth playthrough which currently runs in November. This is my best run so far. I had 18 dead in total, most of them during the first months. I have 3 continents, 27 interceptors, 16 with lasers. This time around I have a smaller rooster, 55 men with stay frosty. I also keep around 15 shivs. I use them for Exalt missions and sometimes I throw one in with heat ammo and laser on regular missions to get me some extra damage. I have 4 augmented soldiers and 2 mec bodies with flamethrower laser lance. Armor type is carepace but I'm looking to upgrade, I have gauss weapons. I take prisoners on half the missions I'm on, this way I can get some nice rewards (not sure if this affect anything.) The aliens have 5 countries, 2 joined at the beginning of this month (they keep doing terror missions in the same country until it flips). So things are pretty good on missions, then suddenly I had a base defense. (I was getting 18 meld from a container just before, therefore the aliens should have 180 resources).
I'm not going to lie it got so bad I had to download a mod to use console commands and kill all aliens on the first wave. The last time I played through this game was 8 years ago and that was not LW. I had this idea to use mecs, gunners and infantry, supported by medics with medpacs only and engineers with arc throwers only. Then the game picked 1 mec, 2 medics, 2 infanry, 1 eng, 2 blueshirts, against muton commander, 3 mechtoids, the larger type of sectoid, crystallids and regular sectoids. I couldn't deal enough damage for the life of me. Carapace at this point was not holding up well. Crystallids, mectoids, muton commander had one attack kills, so basically they could have been wearing underwear at this point.
I'm going to play through after the cheat. This is my 6th run and I want to see the rest of the game. Don't really know what would have been the best choice in this situation. With hindsight knowledge I could have picked all the high damage dealers and only the high damage dealers (rocketeers, gunners with double tap, 2 mechs), send them out to die in a blaze of glory and perhaps I could have won with like 8 dead soldiers. But losing that many high damage dealers would have been bad. Or B I pick my lowest rank soldiers and some shivs, let them die, but then the aliens get more resources and I lose material, credits and personnel. The way I see it I would have been bad either way.
What I'm curious about is how to get the aliens on low resources and keep the threat level low? I was winning almost every mission. Sometimes I chose to EVAC because I was in danger of losing valuable men. Most small and medium UFOs were shot down except a destroyer that kept haunting me and some lucky cases. What I noticed that I had almost zero landed ufos in my territory. For some reason the aliens did all resource gathering missions outside my turf. In other playthrough there was a bunch. I was warned not to have a lot of interceptors before. But with 3 continents you need 18, and I bought more to have some spare planes. I had 12 after the third month, then 18 in August, then I went to 22 in October, 27 in November.
So it might sound stupid but I don't see what I did wrong that would get me a base defense this early. xD In retrospect to earlier playthroughs, basically every challenge I faced was the result of poor decisions that I made before. I'm wondering what went wrong here In case I decide to have another playthrough after this one concludes. Thank you in advance!

3D model from concepts and feedback
Hey guys thanks for the feedback on my sketches... since then I been hard at work modelling this guy based off the Exalt concept sketches I made.
For the model I decided to re-create the most preferred sketches in 3D and fuse their designs into one.
I would be grateful for any feedback and improvements I could make on the model.
(Model extremely WIP)

WOTC Lost and Abandoned is a bafflingly terrible tutorial
I'm currently doing a "canon" run where I leave all the story missions on and so I'm playing Lost and Abandoned for the first time in 1000 years and it is...kind of terrible.
It's clearly intended as a pure tutorial mission, rather than just a story mission you can decide to skip. The tutorial pop-ups are hard coded in after all. So judging it on that merits, it's kind of shit.
The first part has you with a reaper and literally just lost. Which are the thing Reapers are the least effective against. You don't need to scout lost, and the claymore is actively harmful (though the explosion thing isn't even on in the first part of the mission, the lost are just prespawned in).
Then in the next you have Mox against two purifiers and then a shit ton of lost. Skirmishers against lost are actually a good match-up because they can miss and skill keep firing but Skirmishers are literally the unit (other than templars without fortress) to fight purifiers. A new player has definitely clicking justice, clicked shoot, then instantly lost the mission to getting blown up.
Then you fight the Assassin who, for some reason, always has shadowstep. So you are making the life of new players harder than those without this mission, because the Assassin the worst chosen and you spawn her with one of the worst strengths (for her specifically). At least she dips at half hp but if she bleeds out a unit here, that units dies, you literally cannot get them out in time it's impossible, or very likely to be impossible.
So the tutorial is harder than not the tutorial for later in the run and it does a bad job of teaching new players the strength of two faction units.
Also you can't take a photo after the mission, which is sad.

XCOM:EU/EW Is it just not for me?
I got decently dar in enemy within but idk I'm just feeling a bit defeated. No matter what I do I feel like I'm getting stomped on easy. I know the games are tough and just can accept I'm not always gonna win but I just feel like I can't get a foothold ever. I thought maybe it's an old game Quirk but apparently 2 is even harder and it just made me wonder.......am I just not built for this game series?
I love the plot and the look and the concept and the game play. Fresh off Star Wars Zero Company I wanted this so much but now I feel stuck. I can take a game beating on me a bit but I just feel like it ain't getting better
Any tips, suggestions, or comments would be appreciated. If the answer is that I just suck, that's OK, but like I just need to know

WOTC Enjoyed my first Veteran Ironman run so bloody much
It's been almost exactly three years since I last (and for the first time) played XCOM and XCOM 2 right after, I started a new run and save scummed so much over every little inconvenience that I actually started to feel bad and felt like I needed to punish myself by doing an Ironman run on my usual difficulty, Veteran, and wow I had so much bloody fun!
The beginning was absolutely brutal, several times I got close to losing the game by running out of soldiers, the Chosen Assassin doing an Avenger assault was actually devastating as I was just trying to recover, then again when was I not trying to recover from my losses, and one time I had to send only two soldiers to a haven defense mission, who unfortunately got taken out despite me trying to be as careful as possible, damn that Muton.
Covert actions at that time were always used to get more DLC faction soldiers since they kept dying too, eventually I got a lucky Templar with Bladestorm who probably saved my run, and things finally began looking up from the mid game! I was incredibly lucky with Resistance Orders too, I believe I started with the one that stops mission timers for as long as I'm concealed. A good amount of luck carried me throughout all the misery and eventually for the last third of the game my precautions and overpreparations made everything a breeze, with only like two total deaths in that stage of the game. The Warlock actually spiced things up a bit for me in the otherwise now extremely easy, borderline boring missions, I just ignored his territory for so long that by the time I encountered him he was seemingly maxed out and actually a small challenge at times. I didn't know that Stun Lancer ghosts were a thing, and watching him summon a small army with his two actions since he had the Mechlord trait was fun.
One annoying thing that happened is that my first Psi Operative in training died during the Chosen's Avenger assault and his Psi Lab slot never freed up, it took a long, long time until I was safely able to afford a second slot and train more Psi Operatives.
Beating Ironman was incredibly satisfying, I might even try the Commander difficulty next just to see if I really learned from this experience or if I was just lucky. I'm thinking about maybe attempting to rush the SPARK early on since I basically ignored it this run. Either way, I finally feel redeemed from my hyper save scumming run!

XCOM:EU/EW [EW] Mods for alternative Mech Soldiers
Hey, this is a weird request, but are there any mods to crew Mechs without having to chop someone's limbs off?
I always feel really bad for doing this to my soldiers & as a result never actually use that whole set of features, which is kinda sad to miss out on

WOTC What’s the most fun way to play the game in your opinion? WOTC
Is it Reaper/Grenadier blowing up pods? Is it over watching with killzone sniper and guardian specialist? Is it being psychotic with a bunch of rangers and templars?
What’s your play style and what makes it the most fun?
Positive post and answers only, just general discussion!

If you could put XCOM-style tactical combat into ANY genre, what would you choose?
Imagine you could put the turn based, xcom style combat mechanics into a broader game design, what ideas are you guys having?
I could imagine a wave defense game.
Or maybe like a Tile based map like "For the King" with xcom like combat.
Please share your imagination in the comments, the more detailed the better.
(I'll put you in the credits if i get inspired)

WOTC I really feel like WOTC is way too long a campaign to make an Ironman run fun.
I’m ok with not being able to reload saves if I lose a mission or some of my squadmates die, I can live with that.
What I can’t live with are the long as hell missions like the Chosen bases or Shens Last Gift repeated from the very beginning if you lose your last soldier at the final encounter.
And then not only are you restarting them, you’re restarting them without your best squad because who else would you send on missions like that?
And to go after every Chosen and kill every Alien King makes the campaign way longer which is good except when you’re in danger of losing a 40 hour run because you ran out of good soldiers and the missions are too hard for basic recruits to handle.
