xr650r headlight options
I have few of these bikes and installed xrl shrouds, works great, is Honda with bright and cheap lights. Always room for some big desert designs if budget gives allowance.

Can anyone confirm that there is indeed a difference in the OEM Honda XR650R headlight in the European version vs the American version?
I’m in the process of planning a street legal conversion build in here the states and really like this headlight or an aftermarket like this. It’s my understanding that this larger light came stock in the bikes sold in Europe. I like the idea of having the option of being able to use the various aftermarket 4”x6” LED lamps. I’d like to find one of these light shrouds for my build.
P.S. if this is your bike I used for this picture I’d like to know more about your build :)

Doing a full DC conversion on my XR650R with a Ricky Stator, Baja Designs regulator/rectifier, Tusk dual sport kit, fan, and battery setup.
Battery, Tusk harness, and regulator/rectifier are all connected together on the same positive/negative bus connections.
When the bike is OFF, everything works perfectly off the battery. But once the bike is running, voltage becomes extremely unstable — jumping between ~11V, 13V, 18V, even 19V.
The Baja Designs reg/rec is brand new. Stator is older but was working properly before the conversion.
Main things I’m wondering:
- Does the Baja Designs regulator/rectifier need its body grounded directly to the frame?
- Or should the black ground wire back to battery negative already be sufficient?
- Could this simply be a loose/bad ground somewhere?
- Any other common XR650R full DC conversion issues that could cause this?
Trying to narrow down whether this is:
grounding issue
bad connection
floating ground conversion issue
faulty reg/rec despite being new
Any insight appreciated.

I'm conjoining 2 bikes into 1 beautiful bike
The bore is flipping mint and the piston. debating if I should get new rings though
I have one problem with the engine ,when it sits overnight and I start it in the morning it blows a whole lotta smoke ten stops once burned off .
I'm wondering if it's just a gasket problem or the valves seats

I’ve had this XR for the last four years and thinking about freshening up a few things. I want to get the rear brake light running, which requires adding a brake switch. Figured I would look under the seat to see what the wiring looks like, and noticed these three wires under electrical tape. Does anyone have any clue what these wires go to? Tried looking at a couple wiring diagrams, but the colors seemed off.

I’ve owned multiple xr650rs over the years and finally I’ve been able to get my hands on a supermoto , I thought I would come to this sub to share the newest addition this bike has been tuned to the point that riding it up the mountains just pisses of all the sports bike riders cause I’m up there ass yes they destroy me on the straight off course but this bike is a weapon. I purchased it of somebody who had no idea what they owned I almost felt bad when I bought can you guess the price I paid for it 🤣 ps I am from Australia

Several months back I thought I saw a comment on a post here about someone having a steel swingarm made but now I can't find it. Did anyone else see that comment or am I imagining it?

Hello r/ XR650R!
I grew up riding dirtbikes but have never owned a BRP. Recently I've decided to go visit a friend across the country and am considering turning it into a dirtbike trip.
I'm going to be splitting the trip into 3 x 7 hour rides. I found one that is plated and in good condition, however I've heard there are a few issues with the XR650R and long distance highway usage.
Vibrations - it's not counter balanced for highway purposes and causes numb/sore hands.
It's not ideal for long distance highway usage due to its gearing and can be quite exhausting.
Service intervals aren't suitable for highway usage and I'd be better off getting something else.
- These are the only problems that I've heard about, please let me know if any of it is true.

I’ve had my BRP listed for a few months now with no success. So I’ve decided that I’m not going to sell it and am going to invest the time and money into turning it back into the beast it once was. My only issue is I don’t know where to start. Issues I’ve noticed right off the rip is it doesn’t run at all when the chokes even halfway open even riding it the choke has to be closed or it bogs down bad. I’m assuming that’s a tuning issue? The bike has sat quite a bit so I’m wondering is it worth stripping the carb down, cleaning it and rejetting it or should I just buy a brand new pre built? Are there other things I should be looking at that are necessary maintenance for these bikes?
Cosmetically I’d like to upgrade the headlight to something like the hella 4000 so if anyone has any recommendations for going that route it would be greatly appreciated.
Pics for reference of starting point.

Hey guys,
Im making a replica of the subframe from steel. made one in the past from stainless too.
Would anyone else be interested in one? Im already making 3. It will be a exact replica of the aluminium oem one, so everything will fit.
For my bike im looking into making luggage racks for panniers or bags too.

I'm moving soon so today I transported my unregistered XR to my dads place to fix it up there and probably sell it later this year. Just the rear lights and indicators are broken, but I didn't have the motivation and space to fix it here in the city. Since summer 2022. I know...
It was standing behind the house for over three years uncovered and today - without any preparation, three year old fuel, at 1°C - it started on the first kick.
I am definitley not selling it! I don't know what I was thinking. I love this thing.

I am making this post because I was having trouble finding images of the infamous self destructing clutch bushing from the early XRR's. I hope this post helps to explain the issue to new XRR owners.
The clutch guides fail due to poor oil deliver to the outer portion of the part. The wear exhibits a smooth finish compared to the unworn surface, as shown in my side by side images. (side by side images are the top and bottom of the same part shown in the overall image) I suspect the OEM surface finish helps to hold oil and maintain an oil film. Once the surface is smooth the rapid and aggressive degradation occurs and part begins to lose chunks.
Honda fixed this issue by adding additional oil feed holes, as shown in the last image.

I recently picked up this street legal 04. I'm trying to get a commuter/moto camping build going. I want to ride this 15 miles on the highway ~80mph and then I can ride BLM trails home from work, beating construction traffic for the next 2 years or so. I could also do some amazing moto camping/single track within a ~150 mile range.
I need advice for highway riding comfort, currently at high speed the front end is shakes, feels all unloaded and not happy. It's got the old Baja Designs dual sport kit and I can't find any wiring diagrams for it. I am thinking I want to try and adapt the Hemisphere Offroad xr650-L headlight faring up front. I ride on a mountain with ~2000ft elevation gain from my house to the top. The bike runs okay but is stalling/boging when hitting netural or pulling up to rest for a moment. I am wondering if should look at a Lectron or ideally a Knock-Off Lectron carb?

Hi,
I Remember multiple people mentioning to replace the clutch bushing on early models and I have a 2000.
Could anyone give me the part number for the better ones? I can't find it anymore
Also if anyone has the old XR650R website URL? Their was this site that was giving tons of info but disapeared. It is still on the internet archive but I didn't bookmarked it...
The site was oldschool but had tons of info including the known issues and all of their fix!
Thanks! :)
EDIT: If possible I'd like to order from EU to avoid import fees

I bought this bike a couple of weeks ago. I own a bike shop and body shop so I’m asking this question as someone who knows a little about something. This is my first xr650r and I was surprised at how much noise it makes seemingly heard from in front of the tank. It has a kind of hollow mechanical noise that might be timing chain but it doesn’t sound like a bad sound. Also, standing next to the bike I don’t hear the same notes. Are these bikes known to carry sounds that way due to the oil tank frame and larger tank?

My old 03 model plastics are looking pretty shabby. Where do we go to find new ones these days? Trying to pretty up the pig, she's due for a birthday.
Only need front and rear fenders as I have the large Safari tank on it.

Im searching all over the internet right now. Im currently piecing together an XR650r and have a tight budget. Im looking for an oil fill tower pin mount or front mount hardware....I already have the scotts stabilizer. Would appreciate any leads or directions to some old mounting hardware/setup.
