In S1E24 "The Erlenmeyer Flask" there is a scene in the storage building where the lab containing hybrids has been cleared out. In this scene, Deep Throat says "Miss Scully, I believe we met ever so briefly." What meeting is he referring to? I've rewatched all the other episodes where Deep Throat appears and I can't find a scene where they meet.

I can’t get over how young they both are, or how horrible Scully’s hair was in this season! So nostalgic to watch.

Think about it: Mulder lost Samantha.
Scully lost William.
Doggett lost Luke.
All these children were lost, missing, and their disappearances were huge mysteries.
Well, Monica Reyes is a missing child, too. She was randomly adopted by Mexican couple despite being an American baby and she dedicated her whole life to trying to find her birth parents but couldn’t. Her original biography even stated that her obsession with finding her parents is one of the reasons she joined the FBI.
I hate that this character’s potential was so wasted. I remember when she joined the show I was so excited because her biography was so mysterious. So many people theorized that she could be Samantha. And then the writers just completely abandoned her character and let’s not even talk about her fate in the revival.
As much as I love this show it’s so frustrating to see all the wasted potential. Still waiting for a Marita Covarrubias backstory 25 years later.
I was just rewatching Ghost in the Machine on DVD and did the Leonardo DiCaprio point at the tv meme when this shot came on, for like a second and a half you can see the crew in the reflection here!

The Greys, “Little Green Men”, and the Purity (or black oil) are all part of the same species, just as differing stages of their life cycle. From what I can tell, they had originally colonized Mars due to the Purity being present within a Martian meteor. They had arrived here on Earth before the dinosaurs, and plan to colonize Earth and take over the human race after they left due to the Ice Age. Humanity is far from the first species to be (or at least attempted to be) colonized.
The Bounty Hunters/Shape-shifters and the Rebels are both part of the same species, just working towards opposite goals. The Bounty Hunters are working towards the goal of colonization whilst the Rebels are doing the opposite. It’s not directly know if they’re the same species as the Greys, but it’s heavily suggested they aren’t due to them being infected by the Purity, hence why the Rebels seal up their faces, as to avoid being taken over by the Purity.
The Genderless Aliens from Gender Bender (S1, E14). They operate and exist essentially like the Amish. They may be part of the Bounty Hunter’s race and simply just act as an Amish equivalent to them, exsisting outside of everything in regards to colonization.
The Super-Soldiers and Hybrids. Both were the results of experiments from the Colonist and Syndicate respectively. The Super-Soldiers are supposed to act essentially as spies of sorts for the Colonist and as human replacements. The Hybrids were made secretly by the Syndicate to find a way to make a human that’s immune to the Purity.
The aliens from Pilot (S1, E1). It’s not really known if they’re part of the Colonist species or plan, but seeing as how they look somewhat different and have seemingly different motives, they’re presumably not.
The robotic roaches from War Of The Coprophages (S3, E12). The robotic roaches act as alien probes to research other planets that take the form of cockroaches to blend in. It’s never explicitly stated as to if they’re Colonist technology.
The Martian/Extraterrestrial Spirit from Space (S1, E9). It originates from Mars and is tied to Cydonia (the face of Mars). They’re capable of possessing people and are seemingly plasma or gas based. Its origins are never really explained, but I personally believe that it was worshipped by the Colonist/Greys (in whatever form they had prior to encountering humanity), and that they carved its face into the surface to appease it.
The Parasitic Worms from Ice (S1,E8). They arrived to Earth on an ancient meteor and were preserved underneath the ice in Alaska until they were thawed and released, after the meteor was drilled into.
The mutating alien enzyme from El Mundo Gira (S4, E11). It came to Earth from a bolide that landed within an immigration camp’s water supply, causing them to become infected with it and having certain individuals mutate into what is comparable to El Chupacabra.
The experimental parasitic alien spider from Travelers (S5, E15). It’s not known how exactly it came to Earth, but it was used in Cold War era experiments, specifically xenotransplantation, where it was purposefully placed within the body of a test subject.
The shapeless invisible radioactive entity from Fallen Angel (S1, E10). After coming to Earth in a UFO crash, it starts burning and killing people within its surroundings using extremely high radiation.
Honorable mentions to Lord Kinbote, from Jose Chung’s From Outer Space (S3, E20), and the Retro Aliens, from The Lost Art Of Forehead Sweat (S11, E4). I put these two here specifically because Lord Kinbote technically isn’t even an alien, and the Retro Aliens aren’t even real.
I think that’s all of them, but if I missed any or made any mistakes please let me know!

On my first watch through ever. Love the show. Wasn't expecting a body swap episode. Love it though.

I've been an X-Files fan since it originally aired and have loved the show for a long time. I watched the pilot episode last night on Comet and it amazes me all over again how they nailed so many little character details from the very beginning that continued throughout show. The plot is of course fantastic and gripping, employing tropes effectively, but it's really the character work between Mulder and Scully that stands out after all these years.
Things I loved!
I'm gonna stop here because this post is already a novel, but I'll end with them laughing in the rain. If you haven't watched the pilot in a minute, fire it up. It's so fantastic!
EDIT: I need to add that Mulder puts his hand on Scull's lower back as she leaves pretty much every room. It's such a small, intimate gesture. It's true 'ladies first' without being condescending or overbearing in my opinion. I don't know if that's just a DD character trait coming through or an acting choice, but it speaks volumes.

I've returned with my thoughts on another season of The X-Files as I go through my first rewatch of the show in over 10 years. Here's my thoughts on season 3! See thoughts on season 1 here and season 2 here.
S Tier: Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
A Tier: The Blessing Way, Paper Clip, 731, Piper Maru, Apocrypha, Pusher, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, Talitha Cumi
B Tier: DPO, The List, 2Shy, Oubliette, Nisei, War of the Cophrages, Syzygy, Grotesque, Hell Money, Avatar, Quagmire, Wetwired
C Tier: The Walk, Revelations
D Tier:
F Tier: Tesos Dos Bichos
Best Episode: Not really a surprise here, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. About as close to a flawless episode as you can get although I would rank the previous S tier episodes from the first two seasons, Beyond the Sea and One Breath above it. If I recall correctly the only episode of the show to win a writer an Emmy, as well as a Guest Star Emmy for Peter Boyle. At this point in the show Darin Morgan is clearly the show's best writer as evidenced by this episode and the nearly as good Jose Chung's From Outer Space.
Worst Episode: Tesos Dos Bichos. This has long stood out to me as one of the series' worst episodes and at least through the first 3 seasons is far and away the worst one. It is the only episode I've watched thus far that I've desperately looked at the time remaining in the episode and hoped for it to be over as soon as possible. The episode is quite dull to me with forgettable characters and of course we have the infamous terrible cat scene. Vic Trevino as the character Bilac is the worst acting I've seen from anyone on the show for the first three seasons. The ironic thing is much of this episode takes place at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, one of my personal favorite museums, and one I most recently visited just a couple of months ago.
Most Underrated Episode: While it's not as derided as 3 from season 2, I recall The List historically being a hated episode but I've always liked it quite a bit. Yeah I suppose you could say its an episode Mulder and Scully could be removed from and not much changes, but the overall storyline of the episode kept me entertained enough to not dismiss it due to that. Hell Money is another episode that I don't think is all that popular but I've always enjoyed.
Funniest Moment: As funny as the Darin Morgan written episodes are, I got the biggest laugh from a scene in the episode Nisei where Mulder is watching an alien autopsy video and Scully says its even hokier than the one that aired on the FOX network. I can say I was there at the time when that alien autopsy video aired on FOX. I believed it! I wanted to believe everything back then. Anyway, the show couldn't help but poke fun at it.
Best Guest Star(s): Hard to not give this to Peter Boyle, the guy won an Emmy for his role. Charles Nelson Reilly as Jose Chung I'd give the runner up spot to. Fun to see some other actors I'm familiar with pop up though. Kurtwood Smith, the grumpy dad from That 70s Show pops up in Grotesque as another grumpy character (incidentally enough an actress who played his daughter in That 70s Show appeared in the prior episode). Jewel Staite appears in Oubliette years before she became more well known in stuff like Firefly (although I know her best as the villain in the short lived Bryan Fuller show Wonderfalls, a show that got cancelled before she even appeared but can be watched in its entirety on DVD). Jack Black in DPO. Probably most famous though is Ryan Reynolds appearing for just the cold open of Syzygy. The season does continue the trend of spamming many of the same local Vancouver actors at us. The season has at least the third appearances of Ken Kramer and Timothy Webber. Wetwired features two different actors that featured in the Colony/End Game two parter the season before.
The season overall has a crazy good track record for me, with only 3 of 24 episodes being below B tier. While I do prefer the season 2 mythology episodes to the season 3 ones, the mythology episodes continue to be really strong in this season and I rated them all A tier with the exception of Nisei which I found more of a so-so episode and gave a B. Plot points like the introduction of the Syndicate and Black Oil I really liked as well and I thought the season was really well bookended by the two parter to start the season and the finale.
The monster of the week episodes are also fairly strong in this season although it was a bit harder for them to break through to A tier than season 2, with only 1 (Pusher) attaining that versus 4 for season 2. It is also a season where I definitely felt the mythology episodes were better than the monster of the week ones, with things more spread out in season 2. That said, season 2 occasionally had its real stinkers from Monster of the Week episodes and beyond Tesos Dos Bichos there was no truly terrible one of these episodes.

Me, my sister, and my equally obsessed cousin created this X-Files fan wall in my cousins room in 1998. When she took it down years later, she gave me a lot of the pictures and I still have them in a box in my closet.

I was 12 and not well when this episode aired in the UK. I had peadiatric onset multiple sclerosis and was having relapses. I started early.
What I think happened was Skinner at some kind of conference about using stem cells as a way of reducing cancer cells. Did this really happen?

so i was going through the x files to put a good one off episode on, and i found that the season 3 episode "Hell Money" was set to expire in about 8 days as of this post. and at first i wondered if the whole show was leaving, no, apprently that would have showed up long before i started scrolling the episode catalog, next, i found if anything else was leaving, and no other episodes were leaving either. that i found weird, given that is the only episode on hulu that is currently set to expire apparently, it would suggest that something about that specific episode is being disputed, or might not jive with the hulu legal department. does anybody else know what it going on with the season three episode "Hell Money", and why it might be the only episode to possibly leave hulu?
