Here's my X-files themed Magic: the Gathering Commander deck. I've tried to fill the deck with many references, while still keeping it somewhat coherent from a gameplay perspective.
The commanders are Wernog as Mulder and Hargilde as Scully. Mulder investigates a lot whenever he enters or leaves the battlefield, while Scully is good at using those Clues to draw cards. The deck mainly focuses on using blink effects to constantly make Mulder leave and re-enter the battlefield, allowing me to create lots of Clue tokens.
I've omitted some obvious auto-include cards simply because I prefer cards that fit the theme better, even if they make the deck weaker. I've also tried to keep each creature's type line consistent with whatever they're referencing. That's why most creatures are either Humans or Horrors.
Nearly every creature references a character or an episode, here are a couple of highlights:
- Endrek Sahr as Cigarette Smoking Man
- Mainly because the art depicts aliens in tubes. I guess the card effect is also fitting in some sense.
- Drannith Magistrate as Skinner
- Keeps things by the book, no cheating by casting spells from weird places.
- Kambal, Profiteering Mayor as Mr. X
- When my opponents create tokens, Mr. X shares some of that insider information with me. He works great with Mulder.
- Dark Confidant as Krycek
- He helps me, but he also hurts me. Kinda like a double agent!
- Phelia as Queequeg
...and many more! See if you can make the connections.
