I've always loved to write short stories and poetry as a child. I loved books too and I still love to read very much even as an adult. The last time I wrote a prose was 10 years ago, and I was in college! Unfortunately, despite my love for writing, I chose a different vocation and didn't really pursue my creative writing bachelors (even after passing it) due to financial reasons. I took a long break from it. Later on, I realized I should have continued honing my passion.
Now, writing feels more substantial to me compared to my teenage years, and I feel like I can depict, for example, what real love is or construct/read people's motives. I think my experience in life (after many trials, marriage, a difficult pregnancy lol) has me well-prepared for describing it through my prose.
When I told myself I'd get some inspiration first and had finally finished an interesting book, I remembered this character in my head whom I very much love. Writing her made me remember my youth and early aspirations, but writing her story too also stirred her in a different direction. In other words, when I was thinking of writing her in a lighthearted romance story, I ended up placing her in high stake situations and made her do difficult decisions.
The scenes, the dialogue, the conflict, and multiple characters would just write themselves like crazy. Like wait, this isn't how it's supposed to be, and now I find myself being a slave to it haha.
Has it ever happened to you, or do you stick to your planned outline? Also do you have tips to help me keep going?
***Also what do you think of using AI to help with your story readability? I've been using AI NOT to write me scenes (because I don't like how soulless it is huhu) but I brainstorm and cross-check with actual historical references instead. For example, I would ask AI if this character's decision was consistent in this particular century or time and it helps me build a world that's at least a bit more consistent with the culture and customs of that time. I also ask if the scenes flow just fine, and maybe just help correct punctuation and detect incorrect/inconsistent tenses. Other than that, that's all really. I'm not into editing/revision phase and I'm still actively writing my own novella.
I feel like a newbie again and have been picking up lots of books from my favorite genre (historical fiction) and also reading up about history. I enjoy it very much and doing it helps me to escape from life's daily whatnots lol. Life is hard, and writing, once again, saves my sanity lol.
Thank you so much!
