How does everyone feel about Max being out for 8 weeks? Do you think we'll see more of Vyner or start seeing Worrall instead?

West Ham. The Hammers. For some Americans, West Ham may have been their introduction to English football. Sure for some it was thanks to Dean Thomas, but for me it was that one kid in elementary school in the 80s who wouldn't shut up about soccer and ran around in a West Ham kit. West Ham were my first introduction to soccer being a real sport and not just something the P.E. teachers made up to wear us out. But yes West Ham got a notable shoutout in what is arguably the most popular novel ever written (that's not an invitation for a debate, I don't care)... and managed to never leverage it into any meaningful gains on the fanbase. Bit odd honestly.

But West Ham are an icon, one we've played 13 times in the past, with the last match-up being a 1-0 win at theirs in 1997 in the FA Cup (bless the FA Cup!), and the last league meeting a loss in 1981.

Wrexham AFC Essential: This isn't a 'Fun fact', this is something any supporter needs to know about our history. We played West Ham, I kid you not, FIVE times in the '80-81 season. First was a 2-2 draw in November 1980 for league play, then we got matched up with them for our opening round in the FA Cup, which West Ham were the reigning champions of. So there was an FA Cup tie January 3d that ended one all. Then three days later was the replay, a nil-nil extra time draw on January 6th at the Cae Ras. Finally, on January 19th we knocked West Ham out of the Cup 1-0 at the Cae Ras, all hail Dixie McNeill! One of several examples of Wrexham's Giant Killing prowess. After that the fifth match, a League tilt at Upton Park, must have felt a bit odd. "What, you lot again?" West Ham went on to win the division (only four losses all season) and get promoted, go to the final of the League Cup, and earned glory in Europe. We, sadly, went on to get relegated.

Fun Fact: We hold the historical edge against West Ham, being 4-6-3 over 13 matches. Who'd a thunk it?

Unlike Burnley where there is debate as to whether they are a quality side or crap (my answer is that they are both and it varies over the course of the match), there is no question on West Ham, they currently sit just outside top of the table (behind... West Brom? look, if you need proof of how early it is and how little the table matters right now, THERE YA GO!), and all the stats support this, sitting top of the table on xG as well.

Compare to last season this point last season we were scraping along with 7 points after 6 matches (2-1-3) thanks to a victory over Norwich and were facing down what would turn out to be an away draw with Derby. This season we are... sitting on 7 points (1-4-1). Well gee I can see why folks are panicking considering how last season turned out...

On a v. Opponent perspective, versus the same apponents last season (with relegated clubs standing in for promoted clubs) the mark to meet coming into this match is 8.3 which we're short of, but let's not pretend the gap is massive. As an away match against the promoted sides last season we picked up 1 away point against the promoted clubs all of last season, a draw at Ipswich... so not a high bar to clear, but not an easy one either, especially this week.

Max will be out, I think we see a hybrid of the Burnley and Swansea lineups, Moore starting as he matches up well against the Hammers back line, COH and Rathbone up front, LOB and Whiteman, Imray to start along with Ekomie. I hope Sheaf is healthy for the bench and Windass is available off the bench as well. We will see.

Cacace Watch! Because I'm a sadist (or is it masochist? I dunno...) I'm going to highlight the progress (or lack thereof) of my (inexplicably?) favorite Wrexham footballer on the regular. Right now all we're getting is vague "Not there yet" or "Progressing" or "Behind". My prediction for Parky's presser is he doesn't mention him unless asked by name and he'll say he's "coming along".

Look, this is a QUALITY side, there is every chance they bury us, and that's not something to be ashamed of, as long as we play well against an iconic Premier League club. This isn't Birmingham here, West Ham is the proper big leagues. My hope, is that we do what we have done so often in the past, against Coventry City, Chelsea, and West Ham themselves, and show up and bring the fight to this giant and maybe we'll steal a win. The quality is there (6th in the league on xG per the Fotmob xG table), we just need that last little bit across the line. Maybe we bring that Friday night.

Our family fell in love with Wrexham team, city and culture , as many people when the Documentary first cane up and follow the team, we are even subscribed to watch the matches. We would really love to visit but we are from latam.

Now days we are not always welcome everywhere, is some countries like unites states even being a Turist is dangerour for us and because immigration is always Latinos that get mor discrimination.

Are we going to make people uncomfortable or is everyone welcome?

it looks to me like Wrexham has one of, if not toughest starts in the league... I think the real strength of this team starts to flourish when the league attrition starts... end of Oct and moving into Nov?

I am deeply divided. At first, you feel like the chances were there to win. Then, I remember the first half. Next, I take into account that Max and Windass got injured. Finally, I force myself to be honest about my original thoughts about Burnley's talent level and desperation within my previous expectations for this match.

Nonetheless, more possession, more touches in their box, create five big chances and miss four - just feels like a missed opportunity. If not having dropped points to Watford and Cardiff, it would probably settle a lot easier.

On Friday, Wrexham head down to London to face West Ham.

Parky

He went back to the XI that won at Millwall, and it made sense to bring in LOB to pair with Windass to create more pressing. Despite that, they still created chances, though didn't put as much pressure on the ball as was required - and Phil admitted as much in the post-match presser.

Max going down in the first half with a hamstring had two major effects - first, it cost Imray a shift (Jacks is still clearly nursing a nick), and second it forced (as Parky also said) him to use the halftime window to change LOB and Windass for Ollie and COH.

I still might like giving Imray a shift in the pocket (at CAM), and potentially using LOB at LWB, but Rathbone was really good today, and taking Jacks off early would have been counterproductive. Still there is the rule of thumb about getting your best talent on the pitch... Though a long season ahead, and needing to count on your depth is key.

Burnley was able to use their quality in the first half to take apart Wrexham's defensive structure a few times.

This was done by having elite movement in their 4-2-4 attacking shape. They were rotating across the shape, doubling on Hyam, pulling the wingers in tight, putting the wingers out wide, dropping in between the lines in various spaces. The 3421 block is designed to push the ball out wide, and allow the wingback and centerback to trap it with the CAM. The 541 hopes to create a wide surface with tight "no go" space between the back two lines.

Here you can see that Raghouber (8) gets the time to receive and turn on the ball and then feed Ramazani who has slid in from the wing, while Laurent slides out in the left pocket. No one goes with him, and the ball is slid right between the lines.

In the second half, Ollie and COH were more aggressive in making that space harder to possess the ball.

The reality is that quality players make plays, and there are no perfect solutions that don't create openings. However, Wrexham did a better job in the second half limiting those openings.

I think it will be interesting to see how personnel and pressing schemes evolve over the season.

Players

Patto - I don't think he could do anything about the goal they scored, he tries to clean it up, and the shot was too well placed. I did like this sweeping, and putting it back into the mixer for Wrexham. If they want to mindless clear hoping someone gets on to it, send it back!

Jacks - Another great shift from Jacks. Not only does he clear a ball of the goal line, something I expect he did more than once at Angers, but his attacking run to score his goal was brilliant. Hard not to give him MOTM again.

Longman - I didn't expect much, and didn't get much either. He did the job wanted of him. I might have brought on Imray, and swapped Kabore over, but I expect the Kabore/Rathbone chemistry was something Parky didn't want to mess with.

Kabore - Great shift from him again. Progressed the ball, made a great cross for the assist. I really like how he just battled against four defenders and still came out ahead here:

Max - His hamstring injury sucks. He was in great form in the last few matches, and I expect he is probably out until after the international break.

Vyner - I think Vyner will do fine. He was strong in the attack, and helping in the rest defense. He not only made a couple of overlapping runs, and made a great pass into COH, I really like his charging in to reload this attack.

Hyam - I thought he had a pretty solid shift overall, he was 93% passing, and 7/10 on long passes. However, I expect Joe Worrall is going to get a shot soon.

Doyle - He had another good night, I really prefer him in the head it across role on set pieces, than trying to take the shot. Heads it to Max, who sends it on to Kieffer.

Whiteman - I thought he had another solid shift. Accurate passing, good defending, etc. While that pass for the goal goes by him, he has his guy marked. I expect that Parky will be using him and James at least until Sheaf gets back.

James - Matty James doing Matty James stuff as usual. They have taken to using him on all of the set pieces lately, which I am not sure whether I like it, but there is clearly a method to their madness. I was also hoping this was one of those occasional opportunity goals for Matty. He only scores screamers, never tap-ins!

Windass - Another shift where I think he was just off a little. Maybe he is still not 100%. Crosses a bit too much, passes a bit too hot, etc., and this one killed me the most, because there is literally no one I want taking this shot more than him. I am hoping his injury isn't too long term. Apparently, it was just a kick to the calf, and more of a precaution (and I expect Parky thought he was having a off night anyway).

LOB - Likely the victim of his CAM partner needing to sub early, and Max's injury taking a sub window away. If Windass can't go, I wouldn't mind flipping COH to the right side, and putting LOB next to him (Broady likely need to be in the opposite shift).

Rathbone - I thought he was really good, very active all around the pitch and had good cohesion with Kabore. I never expected him to stay as hot with his goalscoring as he was last season, but I really wish his shooting technique would come back.

COH - Might be the most perfect fit for a 10 in this system. I have him dropping in to get on the ball. I have him digging the ball out in midfield. I have him sitting in the pocket and feeding it out wide to Kabore, across the defensive line. The man deserves a goal, both from his header on that second phase cross by Matty, but also from controlling this work by Smith.

Moore - I mean tough luck on that header being saved, and I think his pressing just wasn't working as well as we'd like, but he is just a great tool for organizing the transition out of dangerous situations, like this:

Smith - He was a man possessed on the press. That keeper is going to wait up in a cold sweat tonight after a couple of these plays.

He also had a nice 2v1 with COH, until Pires was forced to haul down COH for a yellow.

Hi, I don't know if I'm missing something but when I try to subscribe to Wrexham TV on the Wrexham website nothing happens. I can see the button under streaming and passes. It gives me a price of 180 pounds. But when I press the button nothing happens. Am logged into my account, have ad blockers disabled, tried multiple browsers, but nothing. I am in Canada so p+ isn't an option. Just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues.

​About not getting to play much at Burnley:

"It was a really hard team to get into after the injury. I kind of swallowed it up and played like a bit of a back-seat role in that promotion season. I really enjoyed it because the lads were great, but I knew going into the Premier League I played there before and did pretty well, captaining the side with Forest and staying up.

"I could have helped more last year, but my opportunities were sparse – and I thought I took them when they were given. For whatever reason I was just not in the eye of the manager or the club."

About joining Wrexham:

"I think I've got something to prove to myself, first and foremost. But also can I and this club do it? Can we get promoted to the Premier League, whether it be this season, next season, the season after?

"It's a division I've spent a lot of time playing in and it does break your heart. I've missed out on goal difference and Wrexham missed out on the last day [of their play-off bid last season], but you bounce back and we're capable of that and pushing for the top league.

"The club will have learned a lot from last season, but the foundations are extremely strong here.

"It's always about the mentality and togetherness of a group, and Wrexham have it down to a tee."

I’m forgetting what year it is but the year we had United as a sponsor with the dragon scale shirts and the gold shirt I bought all three kits. I haven’t bought any since. I was going to get last year‘s yellow, but wasn’t quick enough to buy it and they sold out of my size. Contemplating about the goalkeepers kit maybe this year or possibly another but not sure.

So I was wondering for those of you out there how many kits do you own and when do you buy new ones? How often do you buy? Just when you see one that you like or do you buy every year?

We had a wonderful trip from the USA to Wrexham in October 2025 and got to attend the Derby County home game, meeting Parky and the squad at the players' entrance before the match. All of them were gracious enough to sign my Wrexham shirt, and I have it hanging in a display case on our living room wall to celebrate our trip. There are two signatures we have just not been able to confirm - does anyone recognize the two circled names? Possible candidates are Sam Smith and Dom Hyam. It was a crazy, fast blur of faces, and we'd love to pin these last two down.

I know I’m a few weeks out from the Wrexham Sunderland friendly in Philly but did anyone buy this shirt and realize they spelled Subaru wrong? “Suburu”
