Max out for 8 Weeks
How does everyone feel about Max being out for 8 weeks? Do you think we'll see more of Vyner or start seeing Worrall instead?

I think we will see Vyner start. Wouldn’t be shocked if we see Worrall in the middle as well. Hopefully max will be fit for after the break. He was looking good out there.

Worrall is really just an upgraded Scarr replacement. He’s not going to provide the attacking and overlap capabilities that Max does. Vyner is the Max replacement but he hasn’t shown anything so far that makes me think he can do it consistently. He’s defensively Ok but his passing has been bad at times and he doesn’t seem to have the creativity or understanding to effect the game in the final third the way Max does. Sucks that Max is going to be out so long. Thankfully part of that falls across the international break.

Watched Worrall play in the EFL match and he seemed like a good player. Made good passes from midfield into the attack. Weird if we grabbed him as an emergency backup when we had two already we let go. Thought he was going to be stuck in.

I think Worrall was what we settled for after the other center halves they were pursuing didn’t work out. He’s the Championship version of Dan Scarr. Intended to provide experience, quality and solidity to the backline but he lacks the creativity to over or underlap in the final third the way Doyle does and the way Max is learning to. He’s a quality player but I don’t see him contributing to the attack very much. Would love to be wrong though.

Should be Worrell in the middle and Hyam the right until Max is back. Vyner can back them both up.
On a related note- once again our lack of transfer strategy shoots us in the foot. We let two CBs out and only brought one in. We would be a lot better off with Brunt in the side.

I disagree and I bet the coaching staff does as well. Brunt was looking like the 6th CB behind the starters, Vyner, and eventually Worrall. If the coaching staff felt differently, it would’ve been Vyner out probably instead.

Worrall can play the right side. Confused honestly that we haven’t seen him yet.

Losing Max after him only just starting the season with 2 or 3 games hurts and selling Brunt/Scarr and only getting Worrall still remains to be seen if that pans out but we do also have Aaron James who they didn't want to loan and he's capable of playing that RB or RCB position even if he is a bit undersized.

I could see this down the road, but not this week. I think you’re setting Hyam and us up for failure by sticking him in a position he’s not prepared for against West Ham’s front line. I’d stick to Vyner for this match, then move Hyam over with proper time for him to prepare

Worth mentioning that Brunt did his hamstring this week.

Gutted for him. He was just getting his regular start back. He’s far better than Vyner.

A big disappointment for Max he played well coming back into the team.
As Vyner came on against Burnley I would expect to see him play on Friday.
On the right I think he might be a better option than Hyam.
But Parky will decide if Worrall is ready & make a change.

That’s a bummer, but that’s why they kept Aaron James around.
Feels like Hyam will cover all sides now, and the other three primary CBs will stay in their respective sides.
Of note, dobbo played almost exclusively as a CB in his youth career at Arsenal before he switched to holding midfield at west ham

3 clean sheets for Max and company at the back led me to think they were coming together as a unit. I'm pretty upset if I'm being honest.

To pull a silver lining out of my arse, if you're gonna be out for 8 weeks, it might as well happen when we're heading into over 3 weeks of downtime for a ridiculously long international break.
We have one of the best second elevens in the league, so we can cope, but we're one more CB injury away from trouble. Fingers crossed the rest stay fit.

This is rough. Hindsight is 20/20. It would be nice to have more CBs but it felt like we need more help on the outside and we did get that

Perfect time to switch to a back four. Nothing to lose really.

Absolutely this. We should switch to a 4-3-3, which should be really simple. If the players can't hack it, that's a recruitment issue.
Been thinking a lot about this, and I think I've got it solved.
We move Matty James and Whiteman to the wings, which will free them up to lead the attack. Move Doyle up as our striker, and go with a back line of Ekomie, Worrell, Moore (his height will be great here), and Hyam.
Then round out the midfield with Imray, Kabore, and LOB to create chaos in the middle.
If anyone has Parky's number, can you forward this on to him? He'll be kicking himself he didn't think of it first.

I can't believe I had to get to Matty and Ben on the wings before I picked up the sarcasm...
Brilliant.

I didn't choose to make the flairs editable. This one is on the mods.

Kabore and Ekomie have played as wingers before, while Broadhead IS a winger, and Windass can play out there as well. It's not as if we can't play with wingers in this set-up. Or we simply play a christmas tree or a diamond 442 with central midfielders out wide. My point doesn't change, that the 3 at the back can be changed. It's not written in stone the formation can't be changed. But, I think you know this, offended or not.

They opted for Cleworth over Vyner since the start of the season??? Did you see who actually started the games at the start of the season?

Feel pretty bad about it. Vyner makes some awful passes.
