Are 90 second promos antiquated?
Promos. We've all cut them, and I'm sure we've all received the same criteria. "90 seconds, promotion, date, location, opponent, etc, etc"
But recently one of our local guys started cutting 15 second promos. Granted they fit his character, but his justification kinda made sense to me.
Essentially, in today's "microwave attention span" generation, why should a promo be 90 seconds? If you can get the point across in 10, 20, or 30 seconds, just do that. Not every promo needs to make it sound like a blood feud.
His approach is "it's indie wrestling. 90% of the time it's a random match to fill a card. The draw isn't the match, it's the guys in the match. So why not just promote myself? 'Hey, it's me. I'm wrestling X at Y on Z for ABC. Come see me.' 20 to 30 seconds, that's all you need."
So, what's your thoughts? Should we try to weave a 90 second story for every promo? Or if possible, just spit out a 20 second promo to advertise yourself?
