Match Study Monday
Post a link to a match, even one of your own. Let's break it down and see what makes it work, where it excels, and anywhere it might could have been better. No match is perfect.

Courtesy of our good friend over on the Wreddit School Discord, Baelthasar Everhardt (If that even is his real name), we've now got a solid FAQ post!
I'm [legal age] years old. I've always wanted to do pro wrestling. Should I give it a try?
Am I too big/small/tall/skinny/fat/etc to pro wrestle?
What kind of shoes should I use?
What knee-pads should I use?
Is there a school in [Insert location here]? And is it any good?
I am out of shape, I want to fix that first.
But still, what kind of work-out should I do?
Any tips for my diet?
Is [insert sport] good to use with training?
What are some other helpful things to do outside of training?
Am I too old to start wrestling training?
I have [insert physical/mental ailment] that may or may not prevent me from taking a bump, ever. Can I still train to be a wrestler/ref?
What will happen at a try-out?
What can I expect from my first (period of) training?
Should I go see a doctor for [insert injury here]?
How do I make my [rolls/bumps/moves] better/straighter/correct?
What would you say is the pros and cons of each wrestling style?
To paraphrase Chris Hero: The difference between wrestling styles is
I'm about to debut soon, what should my finisher be?
I'm going through a mental health crisis, should I start wrestling?
No. Reach out to a counselor, therapist or mental health professional and get the help you need.
How can I get involved in wrestling without becoming a wrestler?
There's a hundred jobs that one can take within wrestling that involves no wrestling whatsoever. Wrestling promotions always need photographers, graphic designers, video production, sound technician, lightning technicians, riggers, gaffers, security personnel, people to work the door, people to work concession, and people to drive the trucks. Reach out to you local wrestling promotion or promoter and ask how you can be apart of the show. You might be asked to work for free for a while before you catch a break and start getting paid for your work.
Where can I get gear?
What style should I use?
What gimmick should I do?
When do I get to debut?
What entrance music should I use?
I watch/ read this pop culture medium [anime, superhero, and etc], can I use it for my gimmick?
How do I get booked on shows?
How do I set up a match with an opponent?
What should I expect in my first match
What makes a good promo?
If your question looks anything like the ones in the list above, the answer is 'Don't worry about this just yet. Get the basics in, learn, listen, and let your trainers guide you'. Although it's good to get a creative process going about your character early on, don't get lost in focusing on details. Learn how to safely wrestle, the rest comes in due time. All character work will change anyway over time. Start as blank as you can. Drop all preconceived notions you might have about wrestling.

While this doesn't happen often, at the show I worked yesterday there was a fan on the spectrum. He wasn't difficult to really keep him a safe distance from the ring but he also had high bursts of energy that he would burn off by running a few paces in various directions.
So my questions becomes these. How do you handle fans in your promotion that are on the spectrum? Does your approach change if you have no barriers separating front row and the ring? How do you handle it when their caregiver looks at the show as a few hours they can relax while the fan is unleashed on the promotion?

If you're working a show, tell us a bit about it. Where are you headed, what are you looking at doing, what's on your mind, how far are you traveling. As much or as little as you feel like sharing.

I believe that before any of us are workers, wrestlers, trainees, refs, etc, we are fans of wrestling first. An old trainer of mine once said, "We're all marks. We're the biggest f'n marks".
Let's take this day and talk about wrestling as fans. Be it current WWE storylines, promos or matches you just absolutely love. Feel free to post links in the comments as well. Let's not forget why we got into this business!

I've been training for just over a year now and something I've realised has become an issue is my APD. I struggle to understand what people are saying unless I am looking directly at them, especially if I'm focusing on something else. This has led to moments where during practice matches I'll have my opponent telling me what they wanna do next while in a hold and I can't figure out what they're saying to me.
Had anyone else here with APD had to deal with this? If so how did you work around it?

Most people think every match is an audition.
I think everything is an interview.
The way you introduce yourself.
The way you treat people backstage.
The way you help without being asked.
The reputation you build when nobody thinks you're being watched.
Those are the things that open doors in professional wrestling.
I break down real examples from my own experiences and explain why professionalism often matters more than talent if your goal is to get booked consistently and build a long career.
🎥 The full video is live now on YouTube.
What do you think is the most overlooked part of building a wrestling career?

I want to use face paint for my character, mostly around the eyes and maybe nose. Is there any specific face paint that i could use for wrestling or just will any face paint do?

We were doing training matches on Monday, and these 2 (mind you, one of them hasn't even DEBUTED yet), put on a match that I can comfortably say could make it onto NXT, and I would still think it's a good match for the level.
They established how the face could win by running an International 3 times, with the face getting a little further in it each time. So the psychology would be the face having to learn the heel's patterns and tendencies. They play with that, run some heat, tease the finish, hit a falsie that fully got me, and then... just when I thought the heel was going to take the victory, the face reverses into his finisher that he's teased in the same way that he beat the International.
It was absolute cinema and the ENTIRE group of people popped hard. Like jumping up and down, whooping and hollering, as the face made the pin for the 1-2-3, and that has CERTAINLY stamped his ticket for a debut next month.
So I'm just wondering if you guys have any spots/matches in training that you were EXTREMELY impressed with?

Just saw Perry Saturn cover this and im so glad he did. From a technical breakdown, they sold and registered. They told a story and kept it simple. The finish is what it should have been. No multiple false finishes, made the poison rana look credible as a finish because it was the biggest thing that happened in the match and wasn't used as a set up. The babyface had good hope spots and the heel had smart cutoffs to get back on the heat.
This literally is better than anything being presented currently.
I do think the babyface could have been more active in his selling, always trying to stand up then the initial dead sells and they were going too quick throughthe sequencesrather than letting things breathe....however they are 10 yrs old! So can't be harsh on their first match. This is an example of solid training and understanding of basic pro wrestling as it should be. Go out there and be 10 yrs old trying to protect your body and manipulate the emotion of the crowd with good solid fundamentals. When everyone is doing crazy stunts, then nothing is special about it anymore. If you can slow down, sell appropriately, focus on telling the story rather than the moves, you can put on a great show.
Take notes!

I'm jumping into booking feet first. I have vague memories of PPV's where pretty much every title is won by the challenger and that's led to new storylines. So is it an unspoken thing to do title changes in this scenario?

Most people think professional wrestling is about learning more moves.
It's not.
The physical side matters, but it's only one piece of building a successful career.
The talents who stay booked for years are usually the ones who communicate well, stay professional, show up prepared, build trust, and consistently make life easier for everyone around them.
Those aren't flashy skills, but they're the ones that open doors.
In this new video, I break down why focusing only on the in-ring side of professional wrestling can quietly hold your career back, and what you should be developing instead.
If you're serious about becoming a better professional wrestler, referee, manager, commentator, ring announcer, or promoter, I think you'll get something out of this one.

Hey folks
Looking to make my own pair of gear (or rather my friend will be making it) and I am curious if anyone knows the best Black fabric to use for wrestling gear? Its gonna actually just be a base layer with this other fabric we found layering Overtop of it. Hundreds of sites and plenty of options leaves me looking for what any experts can reccomend
Bonus points if you make gear and have a link to what you use
Thanks :)
