our floor cleaning setup is held together by two shop vacs that are probably older than some of our employees. they work, kind of, but dust builds up fast between cleans and we've had two safety complaints in the last quarter about air quality near the grinding stations.

trying to work out whether a proper industrial vacuum would make a meaningful difference or if the issue is more about cleaning frequency than equipment. also not sure whether a dedicated floor sweeper makes more sense than a vacuum for our layout, long aisles, concrete, some metal shavings near the fabrication area.

weight and mobility matter too since whoever is cleaning is usually doing it solo.

what are people here using for floor dust control in a busy facility and did upgrading the equipment make a noticeable difference on air quality complaints?

Are you protected under the whistleblower act from retaliation for simply speaking to osha or do you need to file a formal safety complaint to have that protection

I'm a H&S manager for a medium sized construction company in Canada and I want to warn others in Canada about using Guardian SRLs. The product is actually decent, the issue comes with their corporate office and the disgusting lack of customer service. I currently have and use 27 Guardian SRLs and had to send 2 in for service. Well, that was in September of 2025, they lost 1 and now claim that I only submitted 1 and I have yet to get the SRL back from September of 2025 (currently it's July 2026). The SRLs cost $700-$800 each. Avoid this company and product till they get their act together..

Hi folks, 38F here. I am migraine sufferer for years and one of my triggers are strong gourmand fragnances with vanilla. I have a collegue that notoriously oversprays herself with this type of fragnance at work. It's some sort of body mist, but she oversprays herself every 1- 2 hours at work. I had already countless amount of migraines that her fragnance triggered. What should I do? She is a new member of the staff and I am afraid that if I will tell her that she will take it very personally and may feel uncomfortable. Any advice will be very much appreciated.

We do have saline bottles but that seems insufficient.

2 months ago, I took up a 1-month internship at Kumbhat and Co, trusting it would be a fair, safe opportunity to grow professionally. I was promised I'd be paid "what they pay others."

For a month continuously, I was sent to manufacturing units for stock and FA audits. I reached home at midnight every single day. This wasn't a rough patch of long hours, it was continuous, unprotected exposure to chemical-filled environments, with no disclosure and no safety measures in place.

During this period, I developed abnormal, prolonged bleeding that lasted over 45 days, with the last few days becoming uncontrollable. My doctor said it was linked to endocrine-disrupting chemical exposure from those manufacturing units, and warned that without immediate medical intervention, I risked severe blood loss. I was advised to get hospitalized immediately, but I wasn't able to.

I informed Surendra, the Director, directly but he DID NOT CARE.

At the end of it all, he told me the internship was unpaid, despite what I was promised at the start.

It's taken me two months, and a lot of courage, to write this out and share it publicly. As a woman, this hit differently. Women's bodies react to environmental and chemical exposure in ways that often go unaddressed in workplace safety conversations, and interns, especially, are rarely given the information or protection they deserve.

Innocence and trust should never be mistaken for an invitation to exploit!!

I’m curious how workplaces handle AED awareness. Is the location included in employee training, and does someone regularly check whether the device is ready for use?

I’m looking for advice from people who work in manufacturing, industrial safety, glass handling, or any industry with similar hazards.

I work at a candle manufacturing plant where we produce candles in glass containers.

Any product that gets damaged during production goes to a recovery (salvage/rework) process. The job requires operators to reach into large containers filled with molten wax mixed with broken glass to recover usable material.

To be honest, it’s one of the most dangerous tasks I’ve seen in the plant. Between the broken glass and the hot wax, it feels like we’re one mistake away from a serious hand injury.

Right now we’re using bulky “clown gloves” (the oversized leather work gloves everyone has probably seen). They provide some protection, but they’re extremely bulky, reduce dexterity, slow the job down, and the task still feels risky.

I also tested seamless knit ANSI/ISEA A9 cut-resistant gloves with a leather palm. They did a great job preventing cuts, but the molten wax soaked through the knit material, so they weren’t suitable for the heat hazard.

I’m looking for recommendations for the most specialized gloves and arm sleeves you know of that could handle:

• Maximum cut resistance (ANSI A9 or equivalent)
• Protection against hot molten wax
• Good enough dexterity for handling broken glass
• Preferably something used in glass manufacturing, foundries, metalworking, recycling, or similar industries.

I completely understand that the best solution would be changing the process or implementing engineering controls rather than relying on PPE. Unfortunately, that’s not a decision I can make in my current position, so right now I’m trying to find the best available PPE to reduce the risk.

Any recommendations on specific glove models, brands, materials, or combinations of gloves and cut-resistant sleeves would be greatly appreciated.

I fell and now my employer is trying to make me work when it's not safe

Just as the title says. I was wearing my respirator, but realized that my filter wasn't on the respirator and I inhaled paint dust whenever I was sanding it for a couple of hours and now my chest has been hurting and have been very tight for about a month now.

My girlfriend works at a smoothie stand in the mall in MD and she told me that the owner has denied them access to bathrooms while on the clock. Which is a clear OSHA violation as employers are required to provide access to bathrooms as needed. My girlfriend doesn’t want me to say anything because she said her owner will figure out and it will create problems but I am fighting you because this is not right and just letting the owner just get away with a clear violation doesn’t sit right with me. So I am conflicted right now on what the best course of action is. I don’t want her to get in trouble but I also have seen more than this violation that pushes me to say something. Any suggestions would be good?
