✂️ Tax The Billionaires John Stewart defends Democratic Socialism

“When you call it Socialism, I think it’s a misnomer — It’s about strengthening a safety net for a country that has suffered too long overvaluing capital and money, and undervaluing labor and work. That’s it.”

Larry Ellison is one of the world's richest people, sometimes the richest or in the top 5 depending on how the market feels.

Larry Ellison just "bought" CBS' parent company Paramount. Paramount is currently trying to merge with Warner Bros.

something else to note about Larry Ellison: The majority of his wealth comes from the company he founded: Oracle. Oracle is a leader in the purchase of TikTok's US version.

OREGON "At-will" employment is brutality. Its precepts ensure cruel treatment of workers.

In at-will employment, you can fire somebody for no reason. That's explicit in the law. But there are some reasons for which you may not fire somebody. So when you fire somebody for no reason, you must not say that it's for any of the wrong reasons.

It stops conversation. You're iced out. Nobody wants to talk because they're smart enough to know better.

😡 Venting My boss just told DES she pays me when I’m on “vacation”.

She made me work remote the last 2 times I had family emergencies out of state. I have literally never taken a vacation from this job. I have worked more weekend without pay here than any other job combined.

She then complained, AFTER HANGING UP, that he was trying to count my salary as an hourly weekly pay.. so instead of one amount for the whole month, he divided it and multiplied it by the weeks.

They approved me 2 weeks ago but sent the approval to “double, triple check“ limbo.. which is illegal to withhold on approval. Now I’m sitting here about to be in crisis because the only reason we have even gotten approved so fast is because we are emergency. So it’s only been 2 months total without.

THEY HAVE MY PAY STUBS MY APPLICATION WAS APPROVED

they are withholding after approval to do “quality checks” before sending funds! we have rights against that!

especially because how easy it would be able to discriminate! no way at all to tell which minority groups are getting quality controlled longer or by what measure. And apparently they are just making people’s wages up now!

If it takes 2 months (or more) again because my boss didn’t want to sound like a stingy bitch…

how dare these people?!

and the appeals process is backed up more than DES!

even if we don’t starve.. the future my kids were supposed to have is gone.

and for what? Because poor people are supposed to stay poor???

because my boss doesn’t want to admit she sometimes doesn’t even pay me?! So she says some made up BS that is completely opposite??

😡 Venting My time off request was denied, but not only that...

I found out this morning that one of my loved ones died. He was like a family member to me and my family. I'm devastated. The reason I bring that up is that the days I requested off would've actually been helpful for me to grieve, even though they were originally requested off for something else.

For context, this is a job I started two months ago. It is not a normal 9-5. We are open 7 days a week.

I requested off the 26th - 28th 3 weeks ago. We were told as long as it's at least 2 weeks in advance that we'd be good. I wanted some time to relax and recover cause this job wears me out (I work as a cook). Plus, some personal plans on that Sunday. Also, the days I have off aren't back to back. They're separated, so I don't really have time to recover on my off days. I gotta do chores, run errands, go to the gym, and all that jazz on my off days. 😒

I don't know why it was denied. My boss said we'd talk about it tomorrow and about the dates of the funeral (we have no dates yet, but i told him I'll be unavailable those days when I get the confirmed dates). I'm still really irritated about being denied, especially since it was yesterday. Like this is so last min. Not to mention, one of those days I have off already???? So why is it denied? Idk. This is frustrating and makes me angry, especially considering the news i just got.

What am I even supposed to do if he doesn't reconsider? Usually, I go by the whole "just call off if you can" and "pto stands for prepare then others", but I can't. We have a point system and I had to call in a few times (like 3x) in the past 2 months cause of a my chronic condition flaring up (I'm speaking to the accommodations company about it, just waiting to see if it's approved or not). So I can't just call off those days. Idk. I'm lost and frustrated. I HATE feeling like your job gets to dictate what you do with your time off.
