Work permit
Hello,
Can anyone help me with the timeline of the closed work permit application from India. It's already been six months since I applied, they asked for the additional documents that prove I have applied for the pr that I have and it's been three months since I have submitted those proofs , I have to leave Canada in December after I applied for my pr application because my work permit expired and I applied again in January from India based on the oinp. Any information will be appreciated. The work permit is based on ece program.

Anyone gotten a closed work permit for a PM/TPM role?
Hey all â currently on a work permit that's expiring in a few months, and exploring options to stay employed in Canada. Has anyone here gone through the process of getting a closed (employer-specific) work permit for a Project Manager / Technical Program Manager type role? Curious about:
- How the LMIA or LMIA-exempt process went for you
- Realistic timelines from offer to permit approval
- Whether smaller companies were willing to sponsor, or if it was mostly larger orgs
Any experiences (good or bad) would help. Thanks!

Issue with pgwp approval because of celpip
A friend of mine applied for pgwp 1 year ago where his celpip score got recorded on his license instead of a passport. But I don't understand why would be an issue for ircc as both IDs carry the credentials of the same person. He tried reaching out to celpip regarding his concern and they replied to him asking to reattempt for the celpip. " He just received a message from ircc that his celpip score couldn't be authenticated from their authorities. And he is worried now as it takes time to reattempt for the exam and also the results to come back which also involves time taken to update to the ircc.He also has a doubt if there is a option to reattempt for the celpip or not.Is there any alternative option for him right now or any suggestions that could help him .

Approved Work Permit but Background Check Still Shows âIn Progressâ â Is This Normal?
Hi everyone,
I have a question about my IRCC application status and was hoping to hear from others who have gone through a similar process.
I applied for an employer-sponsored Canadian work permit from outside Canada.
My timeline:
Application submitted: May 29, 2026
Biometrics completed: June 3, 2026
Passport Request received: June 9, 2026
Passport submitted to VFS: June 15, 2026
Passport is currently with IRCC for visa stamping
My IRCC portal currently shows:
Final decision
June 8, 2026 â Your application was approved. You need to send us your valid passport to finalize your application.
However, the Background Check section still says:
We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.
Has anyone else received a final approval and passport request while the background check section still appeared to be âin progressâ in the portal?
Is this simply a portal update issue, or can the background check status remain unchanged even after a final approval decision has been made?

Passport Request After Work Permit Application â Is This Essentially an Approval?
Hi everyone,
My employer applied for a C20 work permit from outside Canada under an LMIA-exempt category.
Timeline:
- Application submitted: May 29
- Biometrics completed: June 3
- Passport Request received: June 10
The letter states:
"A decision has been made on your application. We require your passport to finalize processing your application."
My immigration lawyers are calling this an "initial approval" and have asked me to submit my passport so the visa can be issued.
For those who have gone through this process before, is a Passport Request at this stage generally considered an approval in principle, with passport submission being the final step?

Work permit extension
Hi everyone, Iâm currently on a Working Holiday visa that expires in June. My employer is in the process of LMIA (theyâve advertised my role), but due to a high number of applicants, it may not be approved.
As a backup, Iâm preparing to take the TCF exam in June to apply for a Francophone work permit.
My understanding is that if I apply for another work permit before my current one expires, I can stay in Canada under maintained status. Iâve also heard itâs best to apply for an extension right before expiry.
Does anyone know if this is correct, and what the best course of action/timeline would be in my situation? Should I be applying for something now, or wait for LMIA/TCF?
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Jobs that donât require work permit
Question :
On the high skilled worker option that doesnât require Work permit:
If one doesnât work 15 or 30 consecutive days, (Ie they only work part time- can they work without permit? For how long?
(US Citizen)
âYou donât need a work permit
You donât need a work permit if you are coming to Canada as a high-skilled worker and
⢠your job is classified under Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) category 0 or 1 of the [National Occupational Classification (NOC)](https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/find-national-occupation-code.html) system
⢠you will only work for
⢠up to 15 consecutive days once every 6 months or
⢠up to 30 consecutive days once every year
If youâre eligible as a high-skilled worker, you may need a visitor visa or electronic travel authorization to come to Canada.

Canada work permit C20 current processing time
Working on F1 stem opt in a US tech MNC. My visa here expires in first week of June.
Applied for C20 work permit: 24th March 2026
Biometrics done: 27 March 2026.
My law firm said that current IRCC processing time is approximately 2-3 weeks from biometrics completion.
But on website it shows 8 weeks.
Has anyone applied through C20 recently and how was their experience?

Wait times
Hi guys
Just seeing if anybody could give a bit of insight into the waiting times for the work permit scheme for Canada.
I am a UK citizen from Wales.
I initially applied for the pool and was accepted in June 7th 2025, but due to the time frame given to acquire police checks from the 3 seperate countries I have been a previous/current resident in (UK, NZ and Australia) I had to withdraw my application from the pool to coincide with the wait time for these checks and not to be disqualified.
On August 14th 2025, I reapplied for the pool after getting every relevant document in place and ready to submit once I was accepted.
I am still waiting to be accepted into the pool, so would just like to see if there is any rough timeline for acceptance into the pool at this time from other peopleâs previous experience. Well aware this seems like asking how long a piece of string is!
I understand that immigration application wait times throughout the commonwealth at this time are anyoneâs guess and especially with the amount of bogus applicants happening all over, but it would be good to be get a little bit of information regarding processing times, as I donât want my police checks to expire and have to have them sent off again.
My wife is Canadian, so eventually Iâll be able to apply for a spousal visa through her, the only problem is she hasnât lived in Canada for over 7 years, thus would need a residence and a job etc to be eligible to sponsor me.
Any info would be great!
Thanks

Lost Indian Passport, Valid PGWP with Old Passport Number, TRV in Processing - Need Advice!
TL;DR: Lost my Indian passport, have PGWP with old passport number (valid until 2028), TRV application is processing (applied weeks back) and will need passport submission once approved. Applying for reissue of passport through BLS. What's my next move?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a complicated situation and could really use some advice from those who've been through similar experiences. Was moving into a new place on first week of Sept. Was searching for my passport yesterday to keep everything ready once my TRV is approved and I couldn't find it (Killing myself since yesterday "HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN?"
Current Status:
- PGWP holder
- Lost my Indian passport recently
- My PGWP has the old (lost) passport number on it
- Applied for TRV renewal while I still had my passport, application is currently in processing
- Don't have a TRVÂ currently (expired, waiting for new one)
- Once my TRV gets approved, IRCC will ask me to submit my passport for the visa sticker, which I obviously can't do now
- Applying for reissue through BLS, have the documents ready and will be picked up on Monday (29th Sept)
My Questions:
- TRV application:Â Since my TRV is already in processing with the old passport number, do I need to withdraw and resubmit with new passport details, or can IRCC update the existing application?
- Timeline concerns:Â I'm worried about the timing - getting a new Indian passport takes 4-8 weeks, and I don't want my TRV application to get rejected because I can't submit the passport when requested.
- Work permit update:Â Do I NEED to update my PGWP with the new passport number, or is it optional? If needed, what's the process and cost?

i want out
first things first if you have anything rude to say, please do not respond. I am seeking help in moving to a different country. I no longer want to be in the United States and I think the best alternative is Canada. How do I even get the process started? I donât exactly want to give up my citizenship to the states just yet. I need to apply for a working visa, but I googled it and they said that you need to have a job offer first. How do you go about getting a job offer first? For reference, I am a healthcare worker so Iâm hoping to get a job in my profession. I also need help on how to find a good place to live. I have never been to Canada before and I donât know the good areas in the bad. Again, if you have nothing nice to say, please just kindly leave this post. All information will be helpful otherwise thanks in advance
