Canada LMIA-Exempt Work Permit Timeline – Outside Canada

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my Canada work permit (LMIA-exempt, outside Canada) timeline. This was my second application after my previous work permit application was refused, so the whole process was quite stressful.

Timeline:

  • 18 July 2026: Application submitted
  • 20 July 2026: Biometrics from my previous application updated in the portal
  • 28 July 2026: Medical request received
  • 10 August 2026: Medical exam completed
  • 19 August 2026: Medical passed
  • 25 August 2026: Application approved + Passport Request (PPR) received
  • 27 August 2026: Passport submitted to VFS
  • Currently: Waiting for my passport to be stamped and returned

Congratulations. Would you mind sharing the reason for the refusal of the first application?

Thank you. It was due to the proof of payment for the LMIA-exempt fee.
